I would appreciate some suggestions for the best 12x12 album for double-page layouts.
It's been about a 20 year journey, but I find myself once again making 12x12 layouts. I started there, then strayed to 6x8 albums, then cards, and now I'm doing some 12x12 layouts again thanks to the Crop and Create Holiday event. I'm even going back and doing the layouts from last year's Holiday event too! The problem is I just don't like the way 2-page layouts look in my D-ring albums. These layouts were meant to be seen side by side and the space between the pages in the D-ring albums just doesn't do it for me.
If there is anyone out there who feels the same way, which albums do you use? Or is there something you can do to the pages in the album so they look more side-by-side? Thanks for any suggestions or input!

My albums are usually so full that flipping through the pages are almost side by side. I think most of my 12x12 albums are the Pioneer brand from Amazon. They do have postbound albums as well, those may work for you.

I think strap hinge will lay flat-ish.

I use the CM strap-hinge albums specifically because the pages lay flat and nearly side-by-side. The albums are pricey but they're very sturdy and they last. I've tried other strap-hinge albums and they fell apart.

For me, the ability to easily change pages outweighs the downside of the gap. I don't scrap chronologically, so its much easier to add pages to a D ring album vs a post-bound.

Back in 2006-2009 I used to get 12x12 albums from Costco where you can just slide the pages in, and those pages were all reasonably close to being side by side. I loved that presentation, and the albums were also a lot thinner and easier to handle / store than D-rings. I'm not entirely sure of the construction. They might have been postbound...but I am not sure of my facts on that. Maybe not, because I don't think these albums were refillable. It's been quite awhile since I looked at them, and my memory has let go of these details. Unfortunately, these albums are packed in boxes for moving at the moment, or I would pull them out for you and see if they are a brand that's still being made. Sorry, can't do it, they are inaccessible in a storage unit.

I also scrap 95% single pages. On the rare occasion I make a double page spread I use a double page protector. It is like two page protectors stuck together so you can open them like a book and the two inside pages are right next to each other. I found them at TM not sure if they are still being sold.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not giving up on my D-ring albums completely - I agree that they are easier to use. I'll keep my single page and my pocket style layouts in those. I am starting to accumulate some really nice double page layouts that would look better in a different kind of album. I'll take some of your suggestions and do some looking now that I have some ideas. I really like the idea of double page protectors. Frankly, I think I may even have some stashed away somewhere that I forgot about! I think I'll start there!

If you can’t find any premade double page protectors, could you DIY it? I wonder if it would work to sew (or otherwise adhere) two single page protectors together?
