But I am irrationally irritated by all of the ads out for various brands right now. And for some reason, my Hulu account is flooded with them. I don't know if it is just me being a target for some reason or if everyone with Hulu is getting all of these perfume ads right now too. Is it targeted at men to get them to purchase perfume for their wives and girlfriends for Christmas?
I feel like my blood pressure is rising every time they show one. They make no sense to me whatsoever. At least describe the scent a little. Is it musky? Spicy? Flowery? I know I need to just ignore them and get up and go do something in another room and just let it slide past me. And I fully realize it is my issue, not the manufacturers or the advertising agency that came up with these lame ads. If the goal is name brand recognition, they fail with me because I can't tell you a single brand being advertised, but I can describe the stupid (to me) commercials in detail. Is anyone else bothered by these ads?

OMG I was just thinking about this the other day and I totally agree with you. I don't understand why perfume ads are such over produced nonsense. Don't show me a masked ball for 1000 people, or women swimming in the ocean in ballgowns, or some French dude staring wistfully down an empty street- just tell me what the damn thing smells like! It shouldn't be that hard.
Those ads annoy the crap out of me

Perfume ads are THE WORST!! Ugh. DSO and I were commenting on how much we hate them just the other day. It's like there's an unwritten industry rule that perfume ads have to be as wanky and pretentious as possible. They're all the same.

They're saying, "Guys, you don't know what to get. Get this." And, "Hey, stupid women? You can have this life if you buy this."

There's some sort of unspoken contest to see which brand can come up with the most abstract perfume ad. It's maddening.

I see the Miss Dior ad every single time I watch Peacock. That and the Chevy Volt commercial. The first time I saw it I thought it was cute and now every time the little girl with her baby lisp asks her father if fish get thirsty I irrationally want to throw my remote at the television.

I'm getting plenty of perfume ads also. If only the Hulu advertisers knew that I will never buy any perfume. All of it has an underlying fragrance that smells artificial to me.
But I'll take the perfume ads over that '30' commercial from CarMax that I don't even understand.

I can't stand the car ads where the significant other buys the other one a car for Christmas. So unrealistic.

I hate the jewelry ads just as much as I hate the perfume ads. Which to say is with the heat of a thousand suns. It’s all such a cliché.

Block that junk. No need to give brands your time or mental space. Media is so much better when you curate your experience.

Block that junk. No need to give brands your time or mental space. Media is so much better when you curate your experience. The only way I know of to block these commercials on Hulu is to purchase the ad-free version. I don't know if that is a possibility. I am not paying for Hulu myself anymore, it came as a perk of signing up my phone service with T-Mobile. Hulu and Apple TV are free when you get T-Mobile. Maybe I can just pay the difference between the regular service and the ad-free service? I was seriously considering dumping Hulu, but then I got sucked into watching Alaska Daily and All Rise. Now that Hulu is free to me, I'll continue watching it, but I'm trying to get up and leave the room during these perfume commercials. The down side is that the sound from my laptop feeds directly into my hearing aids so even if I get up and walk away, I can still hear the ads. I would have to take the hearing aids out and that would be annoying too. I don't know which would bother me more, the ads or what I have to do to avoid the ads.

I see influencers on YouTube reviewing perfumes all the time and think really? You have any clue what I would like? It’s the stupidest thing to review. Makeup I get but perfume? No.

I don't watch Hulu specifically but if it's delivered via browser, Ad Block or uMatrix might knock out the commercials. Comes down to how much time you want to invest into making your media ad-free. There's always a way. Or PiHole, which is a router level hardware solution but beyond the complexity most people are comfortable with.

I watch it through my Fire stick and have no idea how to block ads. I even pay for the -free and still get ads during all the shows I watch (paying for ad free means nothing during certain programs). I wouldn't even care about the ads if they weren't so repetitive. The same ones play over and over and over.

I didn't know they could charge you for ad-free viewing and then still show some commercials anyway! And I agree with you on the repetition. I get tired of the same commercials to the point that I will not buy their product just because they've bombarded me with advertising. And even when I am watching something and put it on pause, they now show a still ad that pops up over part of the screen. The most annoying one was the bathroom tissue "enjoy the go" one. Who approves these ads? Don't they do a focus group first? No one I know likes those ads and no one I know is going to "enjoy" pooping just because a talking cartoon bear told them to.

We record most shows using our Tivo, then fast forward through the commercials. Am I the only one who remembers when cable first became widely available, their subscription advertising implied that you'd be able to watch all your shows without commercials? That didn't last long....

I don’t know what show DH was watching or what streaming service it was, but for a while there the singular ad that played on that show was this one for JoAnn’s where it looks like a drone camera zooms through the store with this annoying jingle. At the end it would flash up the location of a local JoAnn’s store and they would play that same exact ad with just a different store location at the end 6-7-8 times (or sometimes even more) IN A ROW. 😳😬😫 So freaking irritating!

Ugh, earworm jingles are the worst. I don't understand how annoying potential customers to the point they grit their teeth at the mere opening bars of your theme song could possibly result in increased sales. I avoid brands that annoy me like the plague.

I like to imagine I’m in the ad agency’s boardroom when they pitch some of these.
After living through the political ads of the previous months, and with so many prescription drugs ads, I welcome the perfume ads, although some make me groan.
I enjoy being reminded how beautiful Keira Knightly is. And some of those black and white artsy things with hunky young guys do not hurt my feelings.
I just wish they’d hurry and make more insurance ads in the series that gave us , “We have a slight Aunt problem”. I love all of them, but The Aunts is my favorite.

My favorite commercials are the ones with the guy trying to help young people from turning into their parents. I think it's Geico. They always make me laugh.
