Maybe even more justification for Biden cancelling the extension. Unfortunate for the people in Kansas. www.npr.org/2022/12/10/1142088091/kansas-oil-spill-is-keystone-pipelines-biggest-ever-according-to-federal-dataTOPEKA, Kan. — A ruptured pipe dumped enough oil this week into a northeastern Kansas creek to nearly fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool, becoming the largest onshore crude pipeline spill in nine years and surpassing all the previous ones on the same pipeline system combined, according to federal data.
The Keystone pipeline spill in a creek running through rural pastureland in Washington County, Kansas, about 150 miles northwest of Kansas City, also was the biggest in the system's history, according to U.S. Department of Transportation data. The operator, Canada-based TC Energy, said the pipeline that runs from Canada to Oklahoma lost about 14,000 barrels, or 588,000 gallons.

One of my high school classmates blamed the Democrats for pushing it so hard in Nebraska. I didn't know enough about it (other than I believed it was Trump who pushed it through).

Interesting history of the pipeline and the Republicans' false claims. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/december-11-2022?r=1f0orz&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=emailNow the U.S. has invested heavily in switching the United States to renewable energy with the Inflation Reduction Act, and a major oil spill resurrects concerns about the transportation of oil.
It is poetic timing. On Friday, as part of their yearlong investigation of the fossil fuel industry, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform released documents from executives at major oil companies revealing that they recognize that their products are creating a climate emergency but that they have no real plans for changing course.

Why in God's name did he think Democrats were pushing for it? I was going to Google Fox and the pipeline to see what he might have seen. I remember Dems not wanting it, but wasn't ready to make that statement without all of my facts. My previous neighbors were like this too and I was always Googling what they might have seen and often Fox's Hannity and friends would really say things that were nowhere near the truth. Shocker, I know.

In Nebraska, not only were libs against it, but so were many conservative farmers.

In Nebraska, not only were libs against it, but so were many conservative farmers. Back in the day, both sides of the aisle were opposed to polluting water supplies and good farmland with spilled oil. Who would have thought? Have there been any estimates for how far downstream we can expect negative effects? I would guess the affected creek flows into the Missouri River at some point.
