The last response on the bottom thread is from 18 hours ago. Earlier this year I was surprised to often see it at 6-8 hours. 🤔

Yup busy time of the year. I am typically here a lot but have to force myself to cutdown until after the holidays, otherwise I start reading, posting, following links, etc and end up using the time that I should spend doing things that need to be done. Happens every year, I fall into the same cycle. 😄

Too much to do. Too many late nights and extra hours. Too much pressure, not enough time to relax and read properly.

I’ve noticed it much slower the last few weeks and admit I’m not here as much either. It’s a busy time of year.

I think there are only so many topics that can be covered.
Plus we haven't had a big influx of new posters, just a few one hit wonders to bump old threads.
And it is a busy time of year. End of work deadlines, schools wrapping up, parties, events, illnesses, travel, etc.
I have noticed it being slow since about mid late October.
I really am not on much anymore as I am focusing on other things.

I’ve not been on much myself either. I’m not feeling well today so I have time to kill. I will try to stir up some drama though. : :

Drama is what keeps me away.
I haven't been on much lately just because it's a busy time of year.

There used to be a lot more political threads. A few people left, the election is over for now, and those threads have slowed way down.

Let's not forget all the cunty little handslappers who come along and try to tell people what they aren't allowed to talk about.
We used to discuss celebrities but now you have to sing their praises, or you get told to shut up. It's so bizarre. Posters here for the most part just want to make lists and not actually interact or have a conversation.
Threads like "what's your favourite...." will get to 5 pages easy because everyone just types in their answer and there's no discussion required, but they are as boring AF.

I don't want to malign anyone, but truly, I come here because I actively want discussion and I don't have a problem with disagreement. I try to be cognizant of that when I start threads too, trying to leave them very open ended. There seems to be less and less to actually talk about.

All my answers are already taken — less drama, it’s not an active election cycle time, and there are fewer thoughtful discussion threads.
That said, I’d be hypocritical to complain, because I start very few threads.

and I don't have a problem with disagreement. I don't either - tell me what you (general you, not you specifically) don't agree with and tell me what you think...and then there can be a back and forth. But one comment I see here a lot "you'll never convince anyone to change sides" but as far as I'm concerned, it's not about that, even if both parties don't change their minds, the act of having the conversation is still worthwhile. One of my friends & I have completely different taste in TV shows, she recommends a show and I usually can't get through the first episode...but we talked about TV shows today even though I don't like her shows and she doesn't like mine. It can still be a fun conversation. I'm spending more time on Reddit - no gatekeepers there on the topics I'm interested in.

I'm happy to talk celebs with you pjaye! My husband always jokes that if it doesn't happen in People Magazine, I don't know about it. That's not TOTALLY true, I do make an effort to keep up with current events but I have to admit, I feel dumb when discussing politics or some world events bc I just didn't have the interest or bandwidth when I was a younger adult, so my knowledge is not that wide...

I don’t follow political threads because it’s just an echo chamber. Nobody wants to hear anything but what the current consensus is by a handful of vocal peas.
Also, even the most benign threads, if it gets enough traffic, end up with someone throwing a political bomb into the middle of it.
My favorite threads are more human nature or pop culture. But I agree, the listing threads get boring because they don’t encourage discussion. However, I am looking at the gift lists because I can always use good gift ideas.
I feel like a pretty prolific thread killer and don’t start many as they rarely go anywhere. I think my most successful thread was my electric kettle purchase (which I continue to LOVE!).

I totally agree with Pjaye! I don't have a problem with discussion and conversation, but then there are handslappers or bullys that come on and say..how can you think that? or you are trash for believing that, etc. That make you feel like a moron. Why can't others have a different opinion without being ridiculed? I love talking celebrities and fashion and awards, but god forbid if you don't like someone's trashy outfit.

I have a fear that the board will slowly fade away because we don't have a draw to gain new members. At the old site there was the website that brought new people and along with that came a more varied age range and life phase of the posters. Maybe we should post FB ads to bring in some fresh meat

I miss all the drama threads about kids (their activities, play date drama, school drama like the infamous supply lists, etc) since our demographic here has mostly aged out.

You just can't drop this idea without telling us if you breastfed. LOL! For the spreadsheet keepers, not only did I breastfeed, but I also cloth diapered for 2 years! (That's all I could take.) It seems like breast vs. formula was hashed out a million times when I first found NSBR.

It always makes me sad that there seems to be loads of lurkers who might pop in very occasionally when a particular thread speaks to them but otherwise they don't join in. That's such shame - everyone has something to add, and it would be great if a few more shy posters would add to our board more often.

ou just can't drop this idea without telling us if you breastfed. LOL! I once got crap for not breastfeeding. The person didn't even let it drop once I informed them I had adopted. "Oh, there are ways you can make it happen," etc. Yeah, I know there technically are, but really? Like, if you are that determined, good for you. That's not me. ETA - I got crap more than once, but everyone else let it drop once I shared the adopted thing.

I once got crap for not breastfeeding. This is such a pet peeve of mine! Does anyone ask adults if they were breastfed? Do you have to put it on college or job applications? "I'm sorry Mr. Jones. It was between you and another applicant and we went with him because he was breastfed."

At least I would think. I feel like we should just be able to let current members post what they want, without judgement. Like this...I disagree with Rhondito, but I still like her! and will still post to her, and won't hairflip on it. LOL

I've been thinking the same about all of this! I've consciously tried starting threads of my own, just to get the conversation going, about anything! I started one about waxed paper for God's sake (that one turned out pretty good, I was so happy lol)
But yeah, I'll keep trying to do my part. Heck I'm willing to watch the H&M documentary just so I can participate in the threads lol.
I'm tired of all the reminiscing of the old days, it's been rehashed so much it's not even funny much anymore. Yes, Altoona PD, yes its Thrusday. Gah.

We're an old board and many of us have been here for a long time. So, we've grown up together. I sometimes wonder if so many of us are older and getting set in our ways that we're not as flexible as we used to be? I know that I try and be open to other people's pov, but man am I getting stuck in my ways.
I was pg when I was started reading the board (1999). I had a previous username, but don't remember the login. So, I really jumped in during 2003 w/so many newish moms. Now our kids are grown and our discussion points are radically different. What is the latest toy has been replaced by what to get the SO of your adult kid.
I'm gonna keep posting the dinner thread, 99% of the people on the board eat!
