I was complaining about sameness in my other thread. So let’s look at it from a different angle. What manufacturers or lines do you think step out of the box?
I appreciate Reminisce because they are willing to tackle themes that are more niche. It is certainly a specific aesthetic but I appreciate their daring. Cosplay? Yes. Game of Thrones? Yes. Cocktails? Yes. More obscure sports? Yes. I don’t know if that is financially successful but I love their daring.
I like Stampedia. Fifty percent of their stuff doesn’t appeal to me but the other 50% are winners. I loved the safari one, loved the Bauhaus one, loved the celestial one…
P13 is usually not my wheelhouse but I made a nice page with it the other day and it seemed fresh.
Pinkfresh, of the more mainstream manufacturers, seems to be more daring. Some of their lines aim for more real life ideas. Not a lot of “best day ever”.
What manufacturers are trying to think a little more outside the box? How effective are they? Do you buy from them?

Fancy Pants... kind of. They still do themes, but the patterns are not so samey.
They don't always get mentioned on this board because they don't do more than one release at a time, and I forget to go look for them buried under Echo Park's 10 Christmas lines...

Photoplay, for sure. They are always introducing something new, and I appreciate how they ask the scrappers on social media what we want to see in upcoming releases.
The colors are very bright and loud (usually), but the new Easter line coming out next year has me intrigued, it is more vintage inspired. Maybe with the Simple Stories Vintage collections going away, Photoplay may try to help fill a gap there? We shall have to wait and see.

The artist who created the Simple Stories Vintage lines, is also and now only designing for 49 & Market. So, if you liked her aesthetic, be sure to check out 49 & Market.

I love what 49 & Market has been doing. I also heard from my LSS owner that while the designer for the Simple Stories Simple Vintage lines has moved on, the lines will continue. Not sure if she has any inside info or if it is speculation...
I also really love Vicki Boutin. I feel like it is the closest I get to the old Basic Grey.

That is good to know, thank you. I actually just received a Cherry on Top order yesterday, and it had the Spectrum Sherbert collection in it. I had never purchased 49 & Market products before, but I love the quality of the paper I just received. Nice and heavy cardstock. I can't wait to play with it! 😊

I agree about Reminisce. I don't buy a ton of their papers but I appreciate they go after themes that some of the other companies overlook. I recently bought their Mexican Fiesta collection and I love it!
I also think Scrapbook Customs and Scrapyourtrip.com have really different and unique themes and they basically cover any sport imaginable. I was looking for Marine paper as my nephew just retired from the Marine's after 20yrs and we attended his ceremony and Scrapbook Customs had great Marine paper, stickers and even "Retired Marine" paper - just what I was looking for!
I like theme scrapping so I appreciate the obscure themes!

How has nobody mentioned Graphic 45? Their stuff is so incredibly unique and wonderful -- I love it all, but some of it is so unique as to be unusable for me.
Stamperia -- YES to all of it! Even when they tackle the same-old themes, they do it in a way that is unique and lovely. I want to buy all of it, but since I am not a billionaire, I had to settle for only buying some of it. I have several nighttime pics to scrap, and I had already bought some Reminisce and Scrapbook Customs papers to scrap it with, but those turned out to be not quite right (colors were not a great match when I got it in person). So I just got Stamperia's Cosmos Infinity line to mix in with the papers I already got, and I am elated because I think I now have exactly what I need.
I also bought a bunch of single sheets from various other Stamperia collections for scrapping pics I have from Greece, Italy and Portugal.
Love Reminisce! They used to be my go-to for letter stickers and themed papers, because they covered so many of the themes I needed and places I'd been to. I use fewer of their products nowadays because they are doing so many photorealistic papers that just don't work for my projects. I'm still using quite a bit of their stuff, though. They had a Stand-Up Paddleboarding collection that I used a bunch of. We don't do stand-up paddleboarding, but the colors and imagery were perfect for our sailing layouts.

I love the work Katie Pertiet has done for both 49 and Market and Simple Stories. I think her work is really unique and lovely. I bought bunches of her Simple Vintage Seas and Coastal collections for Simple Stories, and I am mixing them with papers and stamps from 49 and Market's Vintage Artistry Shore collection (which she also designed -- they all work well together). That said, I like a lot of the stuff that other designers have done for Simple Stories, too. Simple Stories stuff tends to work into my budget more easily than 49 and Market's stuff does...and I get so many of my go-to basics from them (page protectors, cardstock, wood patterned papers, etc) that it makes sense for me to keep shopping with them to ensure I get matching colors and styles. I really love how they have a set color palette for cardstock; I have been able to buy single sheets here and there from their patterned paper collections, and I have found that they tend to work well with other pages from their other random collections. And I have used, and been happy with, basically everything I've bought from them. Thanks for giving me hope that the Simple Vintage lines might continue. I hope it is true!!!!! I buy bunches of Simple Stories' Sn@p products, and I LOVED the beautiful Flipbooks Katie designed that matched the paper collections. I also thought Simple Stories' recent "Harvest Market" and "Let's Go" collections included some unique and interesting products. I love how the Harvest Market collection mixes fall + farming + florals + leaves. I bought a paper pad and a sticker sheet and am on a good pace to get a bunch of different projects from those purchases. I bought the sticker book and multiples of the map papers from Let's Go. Love it all! And YES to Vicki Boutin! I love her work, her style and her products soooooooooooo much! I definitely find her work really unique and interesting.

I vote for Tim Holtz because of all the grungeness of his products. I have a hard time using a lot of it though

Reminisce has Game of Thrones paper? Do you know what the collection is called? Edited to add: Just found it, it's called Warrior. My son is a huge GoT fan, I'm going to have to get this. I don't know how to scrap with photorealistic paper but I'll try!!

I don't know how to scrap with photorealistic paper but I'll try!! I really like the paper in that collection. The chainmail, the dragon scales, the fire... I didn't watch Game of Thrones (too gory) but I really would like to try using that paper for other layouts. Reminisce also has a cosplay line that I think I can make work for other layouts.
