I have been reducing my time on the internet to just mentally clear my head space a bit and help with some anxiety and OCD I have been dealing with along with seasonal PTSD stuff.
YouTube is one area I have greatly reduced and I get on in the evening to see if there are any videos I want to watch. I subscribe to happy channels so nothing that can trigger me. I love to scroll my subs and see if there is a video or two that speaks to me.
I was doing that just now and was like oh that craft video looks like something I would enjoy right now. So I click on it and it's a freaking premier ad for an upcoming video.
Why do YouTube creators do this? It irks the crap out of me.
Do they think they are that important that people will literally drop what they are doing on said day and time to watch the video?
Do creators get more engagement that way? Is that why I have seen an uptick in premier videos?
Not a fan.
Like, post the video. I don't need to be told when it will go live.
I will say though that a new to me creator does both the "live" video that is super long and then quickly posts an edited version. LOVE that. I don't have 2-3 hours to hang out and watch a video to see how you made something.

I'm right there with you on this one! And the funniest part is by the time it actually posts, it gets buried in the shuffle and I never watch it anyway. I have no idea what the reasoning is for doing this. But I wish they would stop it!

I'm not even sure what a premiere video is. I'm not a big YouTube person. I don't even have any channels favorites or subscribed or whatever you do. But I do watch some videos and I so appreciate that in the journal your Christmas videos Shimelle keeps it brief. There are some I click on for and I'm just like nope. Last time I tried to watch a Heidi swapp video she actually answered her front door on camera and told us she was having house renovations, etc. I quickly clicked out. That's not why I'm there.

Couldn't agree more on both points! I hated it when some youtubers went to live videos, but REALLY appreciate edited versions. I do like Shimelle's lives...in bed, going to sleep! It takes me 3-4 nights to get through each one But if I really want information I much prefer short. Gina K does instagram "shorts" of cards and wow - inspiration in less than 30 seconds, and beautiful cards!

So when you are scrolling your subscription feed (everyone you follow in order of last posted video to older ones) somewhere in the mix will be a premier video. If you click it you get a count down to when it will actually be posted to watch. So it's a fake link that takes you no where.

I watch a fair (not that much) amount of YouTube and I’ve never seen that ever. It would make me bonkers though so I’m glad haven’t!

I believe the purpose of the premiere concept is that the creator can post an edited video but be online to chat live and answer questions as the video rolls. It allows some people to post something interactive like a live video without having to do the making live. Pretty helpful if you have to be away from your craft room when you would normally do a live, or if you don’t have someone else there to help with the live chat while you craft.
But I totally get why it just seems pointless and annoying if you’re just scrolling for happy stuff to watch.
I can’t handle anyone’s live video going more than about an hour, maybe 1.5hrs if it’s someone I like a lot. I’m usually just listening while I craft. Regular 2-3 hour long live videos just seem over the top to me - nothing against people who create them or watch them, but it’s a no from me.

That's why I don't watch Vicki Boutin's livestreams anymore. They are usually 2+ hours, and most of that time is spent by her chit-chatting, singing, and promoting her upcoming events. I do understand that she's doing these livestreams for free and wants to advertise her paid events, but it really makes the livestream drag on when she keeps repeating the same thing over and over. She doesn't edit the replay either.

Here is another and example of what I mean in case people haven't seen this. Waking up and scrolling my YouTube subscriptions... Keep scrolling and this... Not showing until 1pm. And it is live, not pre recorded. Like why. LOL Cathy and the other crafter who do this always have videos live at the same time. There is no need to do this when you have a set schedule.

There is only one channel that I subscribe to that I'll watch live for certain content. There are no demonstrations or much engagement with fans, it's just a panel of podcasters discussing whatever like a talk show. The benefits of watching it live is that there are no ads, you can chat with other fans and at certain times the panel will take questions from the chat. They happened to have one last night that I listened to live while I baked 7-8 dozen cookies (I don't get in on the chats). I feel like the "Upcoming" video is a place holder. It doesn't bother me at all but I think it's funny when I see 2 or 3 people waiting 4 hours in advance. I like being able to find it more easily since it's usually at the top of their channel when it's time for the show to start instead of refreshing.

I think scheduling a live in advance lets people set up a notification to remind that the video is starting.

I think scheduling a live in advance lets people set up a notification to remind that the video is starting. Yes, this wouldn't bother me at all. I totally understand the reasoning for that. But... the ones that aggravate me- aren't live! They just are set up as an "upcoming" video. And it's not some great big announcement or anything. Just a video. I do believe you can "chat" live. But that's what the comment section is for anyway. I have 6 in my subscription's list today. Anyway, just a minor annoyance for me.

It’s a little annoying to me too, because it clogs up my regular video list and it makes it seem like there are more videos than there actually are.

I think scheduling a live in advance lets people set up a notification to remind that the video is starting. I think crafters are all over place with time, money and attention spans. You can tell by some commenters that the YouTuber is a favorite or fulfills someone's crafting needs RIGHT NOW. I don't watch lives because I can't fast forward through the chatty parts. I also like to click to the end product with some presenters because I love their layouts, but have a hard time with pacing, product endorsing, or listening to the presenter say "Hi" to everyone that joins. Just isn't for me.

My problem is with ads. I watched a 20 minute video and there were 5 ad breaks in it! I understand some YouTubers are trying to make money off the ads but 5 ad breaks in 20 minutes seems ridiculous. I am fine with an ad at the beginning, one ad break after 10 minutes then one at the end but any more than that in 20 minutes is so annoying.

I'm not a fan of the "premier" video announcements either. But, I also never watch videos live, I only catch the recordings after.

I never get ads in youtube videos on my computer, so I'm always surprised when I see them when I'm watching on another device.

My YouTube complaint is people that have peeling/awful nails. When you are doing a video that primarily shows your hands, at least remove your half gone nail polish. I find it distracting.
Also, I found a new scrapper that I really enjoy following but she yawns in every.single.video. Usually multiple times. I really like her style but the yawning makes me want to yawn and I don’t think I can watch her anymore. I feel bad if she has chronic fatigue syndrome or something, but she has never mentioned it.

Yes to the first. Gross. Yes to the second. That's just downright rude. You shouldn't make your viewers feel as if they're keeping you up, or you're bored. MY Gripe: There is a beader whose jewelry designs I really like, but I usually have to turn off the sound after a few minutes. Each time she finishes a step, she says, "Mkay, 'kay, OK," or some other variation. If I played a drinking game while I was watching her videos, I'd be drunk in no time. And she giggles and cackles while she chit-chats with the live viewers. I usually catch the replays, and I turn off the chat, but it's still really annoying.

Reading that her yawning makes you want to yawn made me laugh—and want to yawn. The only nails I’ve found distracting, though got over it since the video was good, are those shaped like skinny daggers. I think it was more fascination and wondering how she’d do certain steps.

I don't mind the premier videos if they're going to be live. If I want to watch a live I'd appreciate knowing in advance so I can plan for it. It's the regular videos labeled as premier videos that are odd to me. Maybe they're planning ahead and trying to stick to a posting schedule.

We pay for YouTube premium and everyone in my family of 5 is on the account. No ads when watching on TV or the app. We all watch enough YouTube, that it's worth the cost.

A lot of this just depends on the channel, their specific content and what seems to work for them and their specific analytics.
I will occasionally post a video as a premiere but it is usually because I am sitting on youtube studio publishing it anyways and around to chat to answer questions in real time. Now the con to doing it this way is no one knows its happening. If they have bell notifications on they will get an alert. If you schedule a premiere though people will have a longer amount of time to know when the video will play live and the channel creator is chatting. For some subscribers this can be a pro for them for many reasons.
Everyone seems to work differently based on time and work style and it's reflected in how the viewers see their content presented.

The premiere designation doesn't bother me. If it's not time then I just click to the next one. Mostly I watch the replays so I can start and stop and skip if I want to, but sometimes I do like to watch live and be able to comment and interact with others. Just depends on my mood and how much time I have.
