Update: DH and I Iived through the night! ***** “This” being eating food made by strangers. But a student gave me a little bag of “Christmas Crack” for a gift and DH and I just sat here and ate it all because it was delicious. Just wanted to let you all know that if you don’t hear from me again, I was overcome by cooties from a strange family’s kitchen. Farewell, peas. 😂😂😂 (For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s this stuff: www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/saltine-cracker-toffee/)

Ha!
I work in a hospital and patients bake for us, in various capacities, all the time. The office is staunchly divided by those who will eat and those who will not 😂
I am plant based, but I have one patient that makes me the most divine Persian pomegranate chicken dish, fesenjan. I mentioned once that I grew up eating it at my friend's house at Eid so she brought me some one day. It takes her ages to make it, and I know it's a labour of love. Her husband says she only makes it when she sees me and at Eid! I didn't have the heart to tell her I don't eat meat anymore so shhhh.... It's my one non-vegetarian exception!

I used to make that Toffee Crack every year. It is worth the risk! My daughter is making it this year.

I used to be totally fine eating other peoples hone made items. But the longer I’ve lived the more questionable kitchens I’ve seen. I’ve gotten pickier.
However, now, dietary issues keep me from eating anything homemade even if I wanted to.

There were very few kids/parent/people that brought me food that I wouldn't eat or at least try. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I didn't get sick between 2008 up until this September. My house is clean, but I sleep with dogs, eat food that has touched the floor, will eat things that some people here would touch (according to the would you eat this threads), and overall love getting dirty and my leftovers have a decent shelf life. I have no idea why I've been so lucky, but so far so good. I say eat the Crack!

Well, if I die due to eating homemade goodies, my friends and family can say “she died doing what she loved.”

I have a SIL who's kitchen I have seen and therefore I refuse to eat anything she cooks
But if I don't know them I will assume their kitchen is clean, if the person themselves seem clean. And at work especially you can always tell the ones that clean up after themselves in the lunchroom or bathroom, and those that don't!
That said - christmas crack is amazing!! I would have eaten the whole bag too

My daughter made some of that last week, but using Salada biscuits (similar to Saltine Crackers). I thought it was going to be, well, not good. But OMG, it was amazing!! It was like crack, I couldn't get enough.

I was a carpet cleaner for 30 years, I've been in a lot of homes and I've seen a lot of kitchens. I don't do potlucks.

Glad you enjoyed it. I will pretty much try or eat anything that looks appetizing to me, never really give a thought to the before. I have seen restaurants that are probably more questionable than someone’s home kitchen. I just chalk it up to building up my gut tolerance…kind of like a probiotic but a pro potluck (ic). 😉. And I did admit that I would try the butter candle so that probably tells you something. I am probably pushing it with my blind acceptance of all food gifts, but so far so good. 😄

As long as it looked decent, I’d eat crack for sure. The last time I made it, and I have a very clean kitchen, etc - it turned out yucky. Didn’t harden enough and just looked unappetizing. Oh, I still ate it, it tasted alright. Just didn’t look that great. If someone had given me some like that, I would probably not eat it.

I'd eat Cracker Candy from just about anyone! I bought the things I needed to make it, but will wait until New Years. It reminds me of our pea, gagenana who first posted it here. She and her daughter, gagemom, were 2 of my favorite peas back in the day.

We went to an annual holiday party on the 10th. We skipped the last two years as it is well attended and we didn't feel comfortable going. It was before either of us had Covid. We decided to go this year. It wasn't as crowded as years past but the hostess had her usual array of food. Many dishes were prepared by friends of the hostess (I took my pralines) and we ate hearty. I never gave it a second thought.

OK - I was looking at this recipe earlier this week! What kind of chocolate do y'all prefer when making this? I am more of a bittersweet/dark chocolate person, but I was not sure what would be best!
Also - I generally don't eat treats made by other people unless it is a close friend and even then I am iffy. Depends on what it is.

I have no problem eating other people's food. I'm a teacher, too, and I'll eat kids' cookies if they bring them in. I know people that are really against this, but my house isn't a sterile environment, either.
I'm just not germophobic.

I'm a teacher. I eat it all. Fresh hot tamales brought in by questionable kids- I dig in right then and there! Pot luck with foods made by high school kids- yep- I'm eating it. I had a kid tell me that she didn't want to take pictures of her making the ham because her house isn't the cleanest- didn't care- that shit was amazing and I'm here a month later to talk about it.
And I will be making that christmas crack (thank you for the recipe) for New Years to share with my friends who are coming over for the weekend. The dilemma is to get milk chocolate or use semi-sweet.....

I never say no to cracker candy/Christmas crack.
One of my husband’s softball players and her family recently moved here from England and gave us some shortbread and homemade lemon curd for Christmas. So delicious, and we’ve lived to tell the tale.

I was wondering if the recipe would work with Saladas. May have to try, but it won't be before Christmas. DH can eat them watching the cricket. It is saltines, butter, brown sugar, and milk chocolate chips, so if Saladas are like Saltines, you are golden! Saltines are also called soda crackers. I always thought the soda in the crackers are what made them foam up and “float” when they go in the oven. Not sure that is correct but I have heard that. If Saladas have soda they should work.
