Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a great site or webpage for help with starting a mini album for the first time. I would like to know things like:-
- what to make your covers out of (e.g. use premade covers, use a particular die in a Big Shot, etc) - what glue to use to stick your patterned paper on
and all the other questions that go with how to make a mini album...
Thanks

If you go on Youtube and search mini album you will find tons and tons of great tutorials. Specific types are paper bag mini, TP roll mini, file folder mini, lap books. There are some that are just people their albums, so be sure to search with tutorial if you want to get information and instructions.

I make tons of mini albums. first you have to decide how you will bind your albums. binder rings? wire coil? 3-ring binder? most of my album covers are made from heavy chipboard. to adhere the patterned paper to the chipboard, I use a Xyron 1250 adhesive machine like this one: www.ebay.com/itm/Xyron-Pro-1250B-Adhesive-Application-and-Laminating-System-Machine-Mint-Cond-/151506394212?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23467c1c64I like it because it puts a layer of adhesive under the entire sheet of paper and I can fold the paper around the edges and corners of the chipboard. for those who don't have a xyron machine, some use adhesive spray. I find that a little messy. some people brush on modge podge or white glue and that is fine so long as your paper doesn't bubble. the only time I use modge podge is if I am decoupaging the entire cover with decorative tissue paper or some paper lighter than regular scrapbook paper. I guess you can use a glue stick or tape runner too. then you have to decide what kind of pages you want. I like to use chipboard or cardstock pages because they are sturdier. I use envelopes as page bases too. like sophikis above said, check out youtube. there are tons of DIY albums on there.

There are so many different ways to make a mini. Do you have any idea what kind you'd like to try first?

Thanks ladies for your responses. They've been very helpful.
In reply to elsabelle - I think I'd like to try to make one with rings, I have kept some shoe boxes to make the covers but not sure if people use dies for the cover shapes or just cut with scissors? Alternately I could buy covers from a craft shop with the rings as well. (Just trying to save money if I can.)
I'm looking forward to creating something without page protectors that is tactile and pretty.

I've made several with rings. For some I used a lightweight chipboard for the front and back covers and for others I used a good quality cardstock like Bazzill. For the cardstock ones I'd adhere two pieces together to make it a little more sturdy. All of them have held up well. If you don't have chipboard you could use the shoe box and I've heard of quite a few scrappers who use cereal boxes. A couple of things to keep in mind: Make sure to keep in mind where you're going to punch the holes for the rings when you're adhering paper or embellishments. You won't want certain things to be in the way. You could go to Pinterest and search 'mini album metal rings' and you'll find tons of inspiration. I've been meaning to use my Silhouette to make a shaped mini album but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Mine are mostly square or rectangles. I always punch the holes on the first page and then use that one to make the holes on the other pages so they'll line up.

There is a website called Creations with Christina. She has an 8 part mini book tutorial series for the type of mini album you want. It is very much geared towards beginners. You will find it listed under her"labels" menu. Have fun!

I second listening to the podcast! I just discovered these entertaining ladies and thoroughly enjoyed hearing their thoughts and experiences. And they give examples on where to see and learn more.
I'm trying to pace myself as I listen, but they're like Pringles, can't stop at just one!

another good source would be ali edwards, i think. she made a december daily album from cover to cover several years back. chipboard covers with pp adhered, binder rings. ali is pretty big on mini albums and has been for a number of years so her blog would be another place to look.
