I haven't scrapped in over a year and I can't believe how much I have forgotten how to do digitally! Anyway, I am trying to use brushes in PS elements. For some reason they are only showing as broken black and white running lines. And if I try to print they aren't there at all. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? It's driving me crazy that I can't figure it out because I just know it is something stupid! Help!

Maybe by now you’ve figured it out, but if not….
Which version of PS Elements are you using?
Also, since you said that it’s probably something stupid, is there any chance you are/were using a trial version of PSE, or had a subscription that ran out, or have a sub but your credit card number/expiration date expired? My DH uses the subscription version of PS. I use an older PSE version that I bought and never updated, because it does what I need. I don’t need to renew mine. DH pays a monthly fee to keep his working. I think some features don’t work for trial versions, or for a sub that expired.
If none of these, I’ll try to find time to play with PSE. However, my DD is visiting, so I’m not sure how soon I’ll get to it.

This might be a dumb question but are the brushes you want to use loaded?
ETA : to load brushes go to Edit, Preset Manager, Append, then find your brush file, Load. You want to Append so that the brushes stay loaded in your brush file.
ETA again: I use PSE 9 and PSE 11 - yes both!

I am using 10. It’s paid for. I went in and loaded a new brush earlier. Same thing. I am not sure I have ever seen append. I will try that in the morning. I have the paid version of the full photoshop. They work fine in there and I have had 10 for years and this has never happened before. I am not signed into Adobe that I know of on pse. Maybe that matters? I will try that too. I have searched online and can’t find anything about this, so that’s stumping me. One thing is, I have played around with folders. So I’m wondering if I have somehow changed locations of the brushes folder. But then would it still show in elements? Ugh. This could turn into a huge headache.

Okay so I decided to put my insomnia to good use...lol. And at the risk of showing my true stupidity, I figured it out. For some reason my actual brush tool was not showing. Just the selective brush. Hence my issue. I do want to thank you guys tho. Its only because you responded that it had made me dig deeper. I had just about given up earlier.

sunny1016 - I took Jessica Sprague's PSE classes and she recommended to append brushes when loading them. That's why I mentioned using append. I'd have to go back to the lessons (circa 2009-2013) to find out why. Maybe because just loading them overwrites previously loaded brushes??? Anyway, I'm glad you were able to figure it out.

Maybe because just loading them overwrites previously loaded brushes??? This is correct. Load kicks out all the current brushes and replaces them with the new set. Append adds the new set onto the currently loaded ones.
