did you see this article from Tv Guide West Wing Imitates Real Life before it happens ? I have the full set of DVDs and randomly pull a disc out for a night of viewing pleasure. I don't care what others argue, this is the best TV show ever made!

I also have all the DVDs. It's been awhile; maybe I need to revisit a season this weekend. I get annoyed when Sorkin gets too cloying, but the WW is my favorite of all his series/movies/plays. If only people actually talked like that!

I agree the WW was one of the best TV shows and it's my favorite. I have all 7 seasons on DVD and started to watch some of my favorite shows.
One is when Toby and Sam went to CT to get Mendoza out of jail.

I really should get the DVDs. That said, I wonder if I can get it on Netflix?

Without a doubt, the best show ever.
One of the only shows I watched from the very first episode til the last without ever once thinking that they should've packed it in after last season.
I watched it in syndication and was sad when it stopped running.
Had my husband buy me the entire series on DVD (love that cool box!) for my birthday in October. I swore that once a month I would have a West Wing Weekend and binge watch a season. I even wrote it on the calendar the first month, telling my family to pretend I wasn't there, lol.
I only got thru season 3.
I'm thinking I may need to jump back in.
Fascinating article, btw.

I <3 West Wing. Hands down my favorite show ever. Hey, I have a kid named Ainsley.
So many ways this show has paralleled real life.

This Aussie also thinks it is one of the best series ever. I have the set and watched it about 3 times from start to finishe now.
My kids groan every time I mention that I wouldn't mind watching it again LOL.

West Wing is my favorite TV series ever. I did get frustrated in the last season and a half as they brought in writers who had no idea of the history of the individual characters and the continuity gap just drove me crazy. They also started to write the Bartlet character really weak toward the end - such as his begging the leader of another country to please give him an hour to walk his daughter down the aisle. I would be willing any time to watch any episode of the first 3 seasons over & over again. It made one imagine how things could be!

I have to agree it's the best show ever. Yesterday I watched the movie "American President" also written by Alan Sorkin. I had forgotten how much it was in the style of WW including Martin Sheen except he plays the Chief of Staff.

This show is solely responsible for my oldest son wanting to get a degree in Political Science. He says that he can't decide if he wants to be Toby or Josh. LOL
It is funny, every time I watch it, I realize that the more we think things change in politics, the more they really really remain the same. It is so strange to watch a show that was made years and administrations ago and it reflects what is happening now.

Did someone call me? Seriously, how many series (besides shows like Seinfeld) are brought up in a magazine article 8 years after the last show aired? No show has ever achieved the writing, directing and acting genius of this show. Ever. And I'm sad to know that it's likely to never happen again. I've watched nearly every episode more than a dozen times by now. And yes, Netflix has all 7 seasons for your viewing pleasure. I, however, would still recommend you buy the DVDs, just because. I purchased most of mine on Ebay and saved a considerable amount as a result. I've also decided that I can't pick a favorite episode. There's just too much pure gold in this series to narrow it down to 1. Or 5. Or 10. I can't even pick a favorite character. I adore Martin Sheen. I have a mad crush on Rob Lowe. Bradley Whitford just makes me smile every time Josh comes on the screen. Toby is nearly a saint in my eyes, foibles and all. And John Spencer? OMG I literally had a breakdown at the news of his death. I was 6-months post losing my sister to lung cancer and I think I had a lot of grief built up inside at the time and it all came out when I heard the news on the radio. I was driving and had to pull over because I sobbed for at least 10 minutes. And Allison Janney? Talk about an underrated actress! Have you seen her in her new show "Mom?" She has such talent. I knew from WW that she could "bring the funny" but she's absolutely nailing it on "Mom". Throw in all the other actors like Janel Maloney, Dule Hill, Stockard Channing, Elizabeth Moss, Josh Malina, John Amos, Mary-Louise Parker, Kathryn Joosten, Emily Procter, Oliver Platt, Timothy Busfield, Jimmy Smiths, Alan Alda, Lily Tomlin, Kristin Chenoweth... sheesh, what a list of amazing actors!!!! Then you have the "extra" characters: Carol, Margaret, Nancy, Bonnie, Ginger, Cathy, Ed, Larry. Where else have you ever seen such amazing integration of "bit roles" that make you love these characters too? Who would Leo be without Margaret? You know what's the biggest kicker for me? This conservative adored and devoured every minute of this very liberally "bent" show. Even when I would groan at the "anvil over the head" liberal slant to a story line, I would still smile and watch with pure pleasure. THAT's a how a great show gets it done people. Thanks OP for giving me yet another chance to gush about the only TV show that I think I'll still be watching until the day I die.

I grew up in politics - my mom was staff at the state level. West Wing was our show from the beginning. My mom says it is such an accurate portrayal of life behind the scenes.
Like others have said it is so hard to pick a favorite episode. Some of favorite moments: Ainsley's defense of the West Wing staff after she joins; the speeches; the Christmas shows, the press conference the President gives announcing if he will run....so many more.
My youngest has watched the whole series on-line as well.
Best show on tv ever.

I keep telling my youngest that someday I want to hear him say the words, "I serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States."
