crazy4scrapsI am sure they would take them back. My local PO was thrilled with getting them because they have issues with keeping them in stock. It's the downtown office so they get a ton of foot traffic.

Thought I'd jump in here today.... While my dh is out of town for the weekend I am Kondo-ing my side of the closet. Over the past several weeks, in preparation for doing this, I've been just piling up the clothes that I've worn and washed, rather than hanging them up. I just wanted to see what exactly I wore over the course of three weeks or so. You know, that old 20%/80% thing... we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. (works for volunteer organizations too... 20% of the members do 80% of the work -- but that would be another thread, haha ) Anyway, I pulled that pile out and set them aside. Took two sweaters out of that pile that I realized weren't really comfortable. Tossed them. Then I took out EVERY SINGLE item from my side of the closet, mostly clothes and shoes, plus a few miscellaneous things that were on the floor. I also took everything out of the PJ drawer in my dresser because some of what was in the clean laundry pile were PJs. For now I've left the rest of the dresser drawers -- I'll do those separately (mostly it's tee-shirts, socks, underwear, etc.) I've just spent an hour going through most of it. Still have pants to do but I got hungry. I have a large pile on the floor to give away. I got rid of SO MANY plain long-sleeved tee-shirt style shirts. I do like that style because I wear one of those and a sweater or jacket. Perfect for my "uniform" in winter. But....I had a bunch that I haven't worn once this winter. Not once. I do like the colors on some but what's the point of keeping them just because I like the color if I'm not going to wear them? Eating lunch now, then heading back to it.

the table quickly got filled with other random boxes of miscellaneous crap, and it’s been like that for a decade. Sigh. Yeah, no. The table was a bad idea.hahahahaha um yeah. lol. Not laughing at you but at the idea that a spare table would ever be a *good* idea in my house. Even our dining room table, which theoretically has a purpose other than for piling stuff up, gets stuff piled up on it! ugh. Honestly, I don't know what the answer to that is.

I feel that pain too, monklady123. I have four drawers in my closet that need going through. I keep socks and undies in the top two and I couldn’t even tell you what’s in the bottom two. 😳 Anyway, I have about 24 pairs of identical ankle height socks that I almost always wear and another 8-10 pairs of the same socks but crew height that I got for wearing when I would go skating with my kid. All the rest range from mild dislike to out and out hate, so I really need to just knuckle down and get rid of them or see if my DD wants them (and then do the same thing with her sock drawer which is stuffed to the brim also). The ones I don’t like are all basically new which is why it pains me to just throw them away. I hate that they can’t be donated unless they’re new in the package. Same thing with underwear. I have so many different styles of underwear that I thought I’d like, but after wearing them once I’m all like, NOPE. Hate them! Yet there they sit. I really need to start embracing the reality that the money was “wasted” when the items were bought, vs. hanging onto something that just didn’t work out because money was spent on them.

Even our dining room table, which theoretically has a purpose other than for piling stuff up, gets stuff piled up on it! ugh. Honestly, I don't know what the answer to that is. In my case, the answer is clearing off the huge work tables in the other room and using that area to sort through my stuff one small box at a time. I worked on that the other day for a bit and got some of it sorted out and cleared but it’s a long way from perfect. I have two 8’ tables butted up on the long sides with another 5’ table at the end in my studio, so we’re talking a lot of square footage. I’d say at this point it’s maybe 60% clear. I’m having real trouble with the Dana White questions with some of this stuff, because #1) I don’t really know where I would look for it but #2) I DO know I have it and would go looking for it, so the answer to question #1 is, I’d be looking in all of these piles, LOL. I know I’m going to have to pare down with some of this stuff. I am lucky to actually have quite a bit of storage space and a bigger part of my issue is that it truly never got organized very well from the start, so the space I have isn’t being utilized very efficiently. My stuff sat in boxes for over two years after we moved because I was waiting on funds I was inheriting to build out my studio space. In the meantime if I needed something I knew I had, I’d dig through the boxes (making a mess) to find what I wanted. Then once the cabinets, drawers and shelving were in, I kind of just unloaded boxes where I *thought* the stuff should go but that was (and is) a total disaster. Once those areas got full, more stuff got piled on the counters, the island and on the tables and my desk. I definitely should have been more methodical, but here we are. Whats really funny (ironic funny) is that my DH will be the first person to rag on me about covering every horizontal surface with junk and yet, he does the same exact thing! Pot, meet kettle, LOL. And our kid is equally afflicted.

Little Bit woke me at 4:40 this morning. Took down the tree from the family room. This required rearranging the storage room. OMG! The struggle is real. Managed to toss some of the Boy’s clothes from when he was a little guy—stained shirts mostly. The true victim was the tins. Holy cow, the tins! DH second guessed my choice of the ones I wanted gone. He probably moved most of them to the garage. *gah* His problem now.
The plan was to deal with the little kid clothes. By the time those totes were up, I was just done. After so long, I know to just step away lest I start to rethink what has already been decided on. So, I took a turn at the kitchen cabinets. Tossed things that were dated 2020 at the earliest. The extra room is nice. However, DH will fill it quick enough. *roll eyes*
Vacuuming the main floor is next. But, it’s on hold because the cat-that-hates-me is acting cute, laying beside me. Not touching, just beside me. She’s terrified of the vacuum cleaner. So, I just can’t. Plus, she is choosing to be close to me, which means I can’t leave to get a shower. LOL!

For the first time in 7 years, I am able to park in my garage tonight! I was dating a hoarder for almost 8 years. He kept gradually bringing things over or stuff he bought at an estate sale with the intent to sell. I’ve never known a hoarder and have kept on top of how many belongings I had…and also didn’t want to admit he had a problem. I had so much anxiety with how much stuff was in my house, but it is back to feeling just right. It took him 3 months to get all of his stuff from my house. I just got in from sweeping the garage and felt happy that I could post!

The dining room table and room is still being used like a staging area for me… this is where those last few remaining items are sitting waiting to be sold on eBay or find their forever homes if I’m keeping them but it just never ends! Piles of Lego I want to sell and give the money to the kid who doesn’t want it any more, but first I have to go through the Lego and make sure it’s all there. That, my friends, takes a lot of time! So for now it’ll just sit in a massive pile on the dining room table…

I did a totally unplanned clean out of my clothes drawers after I moved my not-so-great condition jeans down to be my painting jeans. While I was in there I took the opportunity to go through all the other clothes in that drawer and found several things to get rid of.
I've also been working through everything in my scrapping stash. My goal is to touch everything and I've already pulled out several things to get rid of. I've got a couple of punches on the chopping block, I've punched each of them and left the shapes on my desk. If I don't gravitate towards them in the next few layouts I'll know it's ok to let them go.

we got the recycling and cardboard loaded up in the car and taken to the recycling drop-off and Publix (for paper bags and plastic bags/overwraps). Filled the back of our Ford Flex completely. I SO wish we had kerbside recycling here.
Cleaned up some planting pots/containers from last year and tossed several that were badly cracked.

Surprise pantry glow up occurred at my place today. Took out containers my family don’t use as they need to “see” the items and replaced it with a can stadium organiser instead. Finally stamped labels out for my big bins (labels have been empty for years!) Threw out some old food. Put in two lazy Susan’s for the oils etc and packets. Mounted the fire blanket onto the door so it’s in an easily accessible space, found a place for some unique hooks I’ve had for a while. Listed a couple more things on eBay… I’m pooped!

Went through some paperwork, shredded some and re-cycled other papers. Re-cycled boxes of items that are no longer under warranty. Our blue bin was picked up this morning then I started filling it. Did some de-cluttering and will be listing some items for sale. Don’t know where this burst of energy has come from.

My suggestion will not be popular with some, but for the next 2 weeks I would not worry about recycling and put that stuff in the regular trash. Especially when studies have found that 70% of recycling ends up in the landfill anyway (and a recent study I saw said 90%). We just had a major schedule mess up in our neighborhood and went 4 weeks without recycling. There was no way I was going to let that stuff sit around in my garage to attract bugs or mice, so into the trash it went. To date I have not been struck down by lightning! If you can't bring yourself to do that, then perhaps you can haul it to a recycling location? But keep in mind that you are using fuel and polluting the environment that way I have mixed feelings about recycling efforts. I truly believe a lot of it is to make ourselves feel good, but the real result is often less than desirable. We generate very little plastic at our house that is recyclable so cardboard ends up being all I put in our recycling roll-cart. It can take several pickups before I have enough in there to bother rolling it to the curb. What I NEED is glass recycling, but we aren't allowed to put those in the bin. I would have been willing to even drop them off somewhere, but there is nowhere near me. In fact, I found out South Carolina only has three localities that allow glass recycling at all. I'm not hanging onto wine bottles for weeks and weeks at a time until I can drive them over an hour away. There is a big current of 'feel good' running through our society right now, and not all of it is well thought out or always practical. But it gives people a chance to pat themselves on the back and 'feel good'. For several years our city (4th largest in the US) did not even take glass for recycling, because they couldn't find a contract that was worth it financially. I wasn't going to let the bottles pile up in my house/garage, then drive across town to turn them in. All that gas and pollution just defeats the purpose of recycling to save the environment. They did start collecting glass again a couple of years ago and I put bottles in when I have them. But so little (other than wine) seems to come in glass jars/bottles these days. All the manufacturers made the switch to plastic years ago.

So now I’m stuck with two totally full carts that have no room in them for the day to day stuff for the next two weeks. There are times when it is in our best interests to toss the stuff and don’t look back. Recycling and donating is good and has its place. But not if it will hinder your progress in decluttering. Our homes are meant to be lived in. Not a replacement for the dump or a substitute for a second hand store or storage unit. When were are ready and able to let things go, get them out in whatever means possible. No guilt. Our quality of life is more important.

I donated 3 bags and 3 boxes of stuff last week to GW on my way to open mic night.
We sold a little over $300 at swap meet, sold about 30 items inside the store connected to the swap meet. I am going to donate the scrapbook stuff to local residential public school and start a new batch for next swap meet.

I think they take the electronics apart and pull out any metal components that can be recycled. I know they do that with stuff like Christmas lights, they strip all the metal out of the wiring, etc.

It’s spring break this week so the kid is home. She expressed a desire to update her bedroom. She wants to take down the wall decals, change up some furniture, etc. which means the first step is clearing stuff out. We need to replace her flooring before we can do any of the big stuff, but there’s plenty of little stuff to do in the meantime. We filled up an entire kitchen trash bag with trash. 👍 We went through most of her stuffed animals and about 80% of them are earmarked to go. Her school is doing a stuffed animal drive for homeless kids and there are quite a few of her castoffs that look brand new, they’re just missing paper hang tags. I’m going to have her ask her advisory teacher if it would be okay to bring them in for that, otherwise I’ll put them up on the Buy Nothing group. We went through her vanity dresser drawers and she weeded out a bunch of socks and underwear that she didn’t like or that didn’t fit which made room for all the ones she wanted to keep. Went through all her shirts and pulled out some to leave at the lake cabin and some to donate. Emptied out all the random stuff from her tall dresser in the closet to make room for the rest of her clothes that had been living in laundry baskets. We still need to go through the books but we made a lot of progress in the last couple days!

My Dad dropped off recycling while I was at Dr. (Center is like 2 blocks from office). Good thing he did it when he did because we ended up with a flat tire and spent a good bit getting spare on. We were able to get to shop to get valve replaced. It was about 2 miles from office. We may take boxes Thursday after another appointment at same place.
I think we are going to toss a couple things my Mom wanted us to sell at swap meet. They are just too dirty to sell, but she insisted. (Sometimes I feel like we have to top toe around her or she'll get pissed and won't talk for days. She examines photos flea market/swap meet owner posts on FB so we were stuck we felt like). Trash pickup is Thursday so hopefully he will just toss the stuff in there.
I have 3 things I never use priced for booth. I need to do some other things. We sold several books over the weekend so I may sell some of mine that's not autographed. (All my books I get at open mic are autographed to me so hard to sell).

I have three college girlfriends coming to stay with us this weekend for an alumni event. So, I decided to host a gathering on Saturday night of others from our class and the couple of years ahead & behind of us who will be in town. I think we'll only have about 30-ish people. But that has kicked off a major house-cleaning and readiness effort!
I gathered up my "I'll drop it off when I get a boxful..." box of donations to take to the thrift store but it wasn't full. So, I set a timer this morning and challenged myself to add 10 items to it. I must have been in the right frame of mind because I filled the box and two more paper grocery bags with handles as well. Yay me!
I just got back from dropping it off and stopping by the nursery for some flowers for the front entrance. I'm peaing while eating my lunch and wanted to share my accomplishment in case it motivates someone else to fill their box!

I am throwing out in the garbage an old bag of “underwear” and I found a big bag of socks to donate to the homeless. Socks are socks. There might be 20 pr so that is nice. I did keep a pair of compression socks because I have issues with swelling sometimes.
It’s ok to keep stuff you think you will use again. It is ok. I have wicked anxiety from this so I don’t feel great from this but I will by tomorrow. There will always be more pretty clothes. I have to remember that.
