Enjoying this burst of energy. Went through the front closet today. Re-organized games and went through them, bagged up old mittens etc to donate etc. Thank you for starting and keeping this thread going

It’s ok to keep stuff you think you will use again. It is ok. I have wicked anxiety from this so I don’t feel great from this but I will by tomorrow. There will always be more pretty clothes. I have to remember that. Yes it IS okay to keep “sometimes” and “maybe” and “I can’t part with it yet” items. 100%. Decluttering the things you will never use or have guilt over or never liked will mean that you now have the space to store these occasional items, and when you do go to use them YOU CAN ACTUALLY FIND THEM!!! This is what I have enjoyed so much about my declutter of the house so far! I’ve also found that at a later time when I revisit some of the “I might use this later” items, and due to all of the decision making practise I’ve done in the meantime, I’m able to reevaluate said items and easily let them go. You can do it, no guilt required!

I was supposed to go have another test today but didn't go because I was up all night sick.
Going to try to take it easy and price things today for booths. I really don't feel like doing anything that physical today.

Hi I need to share a text from my son. It has stopped me all week from buying more stuff
It should make a significant difference in your storage space, you should try not to refill it too much for the sake of keeping what you still want organized
Don’t fill up the holes with stuff. He is amazing!

He is amazing! I’ll never forget when we first got married and for the next five years or so we had a room with no furniture in it. Yep. Nothing. Just an empty room. The number of people who tried to gift us furniture or items to fill the room was amazing, but until we needed a second tv in there we kept it empty. Because we didn’t need to fill the space with things other people were getting rid of or didn’t need. I called it my Japanese room 😁 And then we had kids… yeah it’s full now

We have sold 27 items at flea market this month. We were going to get rid of biggest booth (which meant storing the stuff at home) but I think we may wait til after the swap meet season ends to keep it.
I need to mark more stuff, especially with the next swap meet on the 15th and 16th.

Yesterday I deep cleaned the craft room - not much to get rid because I've been on top of that lately but the stack of things on top of the bookcase waiting to get hung on the walls? Dh hung them last night.
Today I'm working on our bedroom (just my side...DH is in charge of his own stuff). Pulled out the three under the bed boxes - found another pile of stuff that needs hanging and will ask DH to do that this evening - for now, they've been moved to the rooms they'll go in.
Decided that I really didn't need FOUR half slips - kept one black and one white longish ones (I never wear anything kneelength or shorter so don't need the shorter two) and put the others in donation. Went through the dresser - took everything out. Folded it all neatly - moved the winter stuff into the empty under the bed box - added a pair of shorts, a tee-shirt, and a bunch of socks (some new in package) to donation and trash.
Next up is dusting everything in there...I suspect I'll find a couple more things to donate as I empty shelves to dust.

Just marking a place so I can find this thread. I’m moving in 3 months so have been doing a deep declutter around the house. But will need continual motivation and tips. I’m determined to pare down the amount of stuff I have.

I have Lots of time today so I could go into storage and start in there. I just don’t want to lose my mind to mania. I could just go get a big garbage bag and work on donations. I think I will do that.

Hauled off some recycling today. Was going right by one of the drop off locations to an appointment.
I guess I looked at the wrong thing because we have sold 42 items at flea market. Hopefully that will continue

went through funeral cards and the like - sorted out duplicates, offered them up to my kids, and have gotten the ones they wanted ready to mail. The remaining will be trashed excewpt for the prayer booklets which I'll put in donation.

I’m determined to pare down the amount of stuff I have. Moving is the ultimate motivator! It really is. I have three big Rubbermaid bins stacked in our hallway cedar storage closet that are in the same place they’ve been for the last (almost) 11 years. I know there are a few things in there that I want to pull out, but really, all the rest of that stuff could have been donated ten years ago. The thing I find most amusing though is how many of my “vintage” 1980’s and 1990’s clothes my 12 year old kid has pulled out to keep and she actually likes wearing the stuff. She scavenged all of my heavy oversized crewneck Field Gear (from now defunct Marshall Fields, formerly Dayton’s) sweatshirts and has been wearing them to school. I really loved them back in the day but now they’re just too hot for me to wear even when it’s really cold. Pre-menopause I switched to zip front sweatshirts and never looked back.

I fell off the organizing/decluttering wagon for awhile but I’m back on it. I packed up 6 boxes of clothes, shoes and purses to donate along with a box of misc stuff I no longer needed. An area that I really need to hit hard is my kitchen. I have way too many serving bowls, platters, extra glassware, etc that I don’t need or use so it needs to go.

Hi I could use some help/encouragement. Does anyone have anything they are working on and want to share? I have a row of 12 boxes on shelves that need to get done. I don’t want to go crazy with another manic episode. Yesterday I spent 15 min in there and got everything done. I think that’s doable, right? One box, 15 min then leave? I also need a reward (other than a less cluttered home).

I’ll never forget when we first got married and for the next five years or so we had a room with no furniture in it. Yep. Nothing. Just an empty room. I don't have an empty room, but I have furniture with empty drawers if that counts? There's an empty highboy and slant front desk in one guest room and an empty tall chest in the other guest room. I've threatened my husband with bodily harm if he even *thinks* of filling them up. Lol. I absolutely love knowing we have empty drawers in our home. I put two big boxes full of donations in the back of my vehicle this afternoon and will drop them off at the hospice resale store in the morning. Mostly clothes as I was cleaning out while changing over seasonal clothing.

Meaning instead of working on it for 15 minutes, I would say I’m going to work my way through this one box and then be done for today. If you do one box a day, you’ll have all of it gone through in less than two weeks! You can do this!

Can I be completely honest? All I want to save are my kimonos, my dress from Italy, my pink shoes and my expensive and precious scrapbook tools. There are 12 boxes that can go. That is not half a box.

That is not half a box. That’s a clear goal. It’s do-able. And a way to challenge yourself. Write numbers on the ends of each box and see it as a race to the finish line. Let us know when you get there so we can give you a round of applause!

OH, you guys! I have been listening to the podcast "A Slob Comes Clean" and I am addicted I tell you. I just ordered her book. I am cleaning and organizing everything. I am hell bent on getting my house into shape. I have reorganized the bathroom closet, I have done a deep dive into my crafting stuff and been cleaning out and organizing all my stuff. I got rid of Esther's big futon by giving it to Chloe and I bought one nice chair (vintage resale) for me to sit in my office and crochet. I opened the space up so much. I reorganized my crafting drawered end table and got rid of all the things in there I didn't need. I seriously found like 30 powerball tickets from 2020 and 2021. All losers. My kitchen is clean, every.single.day. I sent all the blankets that I have made for the kids over the years out the door with the kids the weekend before last. No one sleeps over anymore and I was tired of storing them. And, I told Chloe that for her birthday in May, I am hiring a moving truck to come move all the rest of her stuff in my basement to her apartment. She signed another year's lease and it has got.to.go! I want my basement back. I told her to come sort through her things because I am getting a giant dumpster and getting the basement cleaned out this summer.

I think I need to do that then I can finally get rid of all of DH’s tools that my son keeps telling me he wants but never seems to have time to come get them. I could stock a small hardware store with the amount of stuff my DH had and the majority of it needs to finally go.

He was like, really, it'll only take them two or three hours to pack everything up, drive the 10 minutes to her house and unload. And I was like, yep, let's do this thing. She is turning 23. I should not have to store her things indefinitely.

When dh and I bought our first house, the very first time my parents came to visit, my mom brought two giant garbage bags full of my stuffed animals. I believe her exact words were, "Here, you can keep this stuff in your own basement now!" I'm still a few years out, but I'm already looking forward to the exodus of various 'stuff' from my kids' rooms!

I believe her exact words were, "Here, you can keep this stuff in your own basement now!" Must be a right of passage for empty nesters! In the early 90s dad retired and they spent a year deciding where they were going to relocate. During that year UPS would deliver boxes to me every couple of weeks. It was all my stuff I'd left behind in the attic when I married in 1977. Mom's comment was you have a house and a 3 car garage so it's time for you to store your own stuff! A lot of it is is gone now, but I've kept a few things. Our childhood sled - when I live in Houston! In my pretend life, I have a fireplace and will have the sled decorated for the holidays and lean it near that fireplace. In reality it lives in the rafters of the garage!
