We take medication back to the Pharmacy. Some fire-halls take hazardous materials. Old light bulbs and batteries are taken to Ikea for recycling.

I've decided I'll just take everything she's willing to part with and dispose of it later.
This is the way.
This is what we did for my grandmother when she moved from her home (that she had lived in for 50+ years).
To have amassed an entire lifetime's worth, and want it to go to good use, and someone else tell you it is junk and worthless, is too heartbreaking for someone that close to the end of their lifespan.
Welcome!

This past week I tossed two broken/cracked unused for several years trashcans. I had to tape signs on them for the trashmen/women that said they were trash and to please take.
I am finding that I am getting rid of lots of "just in case" items now.
Lately I have felt the weight of my own mortality shoving on my shoulders, for no real reason that I can pinpoint. It has me determined that most of what is left of my possessions when I'm gone is easily-tossed practical stuff, and the scrapbooks that I've already told them many times that are fine to do with whatever they wish (toss, keep, disassemble, etc). I'm hoping when I pass, my kids can take a handful of stuff they actually want, load a dumpster with my clothes and furnishings, and have a heavy fistful of cold hard cash to enrich their lives with.

We finally got Mom’s old meds out of the house. Have a couple more books to donate. Question is library, GW, or the book store I usually donate them to. Wonderful, Privately owned store. Another good option is a Little Free Library, if you have any of those in your area. We’ve found some real treasures in the ones near school and also stocked them back up after my kid was done with her books. We’re lucky to have quite a few of them in our general area.

Something that really annoys me is that I have a couple Contigo water bottles that have broken tops but the bottle itself is still perfect. I hate throwing them away. Why can’t I just replace the part that broke? They don’t sell replacement parts but advertise that they have a limited lifetime warranty. But when I contacted them to get a replacement top when the first one broke a couple years ago my email was totally ignored. Now it says you have to have the receipt in order to request a warranty replacement. 🙄 Seriously, who saves every random receipt for something like that? I sure don’t. /Vent over!

Spinning my wheels today. Tossed a pathetic amount of items.
Relocated a pile of books to the new sofa table, which opened some room in the bottom of my closet.
Working through cabinets and drawers mostly, because the visible is in good condition. It gets the most attention in the 15 minute bursts.
All good sign that stuff isn’t coming in the house and what is here is being managed properly. Just tossing and donating items as the need arises has been huge.

I've decided I'll just take everything she's willing to part with and dispose of it later. That is the easiest way to get rid of stuff sometimes. Does everything have to be sorted before you move them, or will be you able to continue the purge after they move to the care facility? We will definitely do a purge after they are settled.

Started in the basement. Threw away things I'd been holding on for almost a decade that I haven't used in that decade. Found more of xh's shit and am sending it to his parents house.
He doesn't have room because he brought the ow's car. Not my problem. It can live at his parents, not here.

I sold another 30 skeins of yarn I decided I don't love. And I found the perfect giftee for the sewing machine I won. And have just a smaller donation bag of flip flops that I bought a long time ago and never wore--they were cheap and have no support, so I'll never wear them. Small victories, but YAY!! Oh, and I actually quilted and bound 2 of the quilt tops I made last year that were languishing in my craft room. Only 5 more to go to be caught up!

My Walmart Pharmacy has a blue box for drug disposal I need to check and see if my WM offers that service. Our Walgreen’s does. I just keep a big ziplock in the garage next to the bag of batteries all taped up and ready for the next time we have hazardous recycling picked up.

My Walmart Pharmacy has a blue box for drug disposal I’ll have to look into that too. I think we have a box of expired stuff that our renter needed to dispose of after her mom passed away that’s still sitting on a shelf in our mudroom because I didn’t know where to take it.

I’ve been seriously neglecting the purging and organizing but this week my DD got rid of 2 trash bags of clothes and I purged 3 more items from my closet (I purge pretty regularly). Sadly we missed rummage sale at the local church so I’ll just take them to goodwill this week. DH and I finally started on the barn, we restore classic Land Rovers and it’s just been a mess since we moved in. We bought 4 heavy duty rolling carts with shelves from Christmas Tree Shop and we were able to start organizing the first zone. Our biggest issue was the piles of stuff on the floor. All that went onto the rolling carts so we could move everything out of the way. We also got the second parts washer built and in place, rearranged the space and DH bought and assembled the floor drill press he’s been eyeing for 2 years. That carried over to moving random bits of wood to a better location. It’s not in its permanent home yet but it’s corralled and stacked nicer.
Today I’m switching gears and working on DD’s window seat. She wants cushions and pillows so I’m doing that today which will clear up some sewing projects and it will get stuff off my dining table.

I think the town police might have one too.

Thankful we didn't have to toss a bunch of frozen stuff yesterday. Went without power for a while due to downed trees.
I did buy some stuff for the tween bags volunteer group does for Christmas. It was notebooks, pens, etc. It's tax free weekend here. While it saved me maybe 5 cents, I took advantage of it. It's better for me to buy that stuff through the year.
Trying to use stuff up and purge used up stuff.

(It's called RAAD, think it's sort of like D.A.R.E). It's at the police station. You just pull up and they get it for you. They just don't take needles

Our renter didn’t know where to take it and we knew we’d have an easier time getting rid of it than she would (or so we thought, LOL). Most of it is expired OTC stuff, so no needles.

we restore classic Land Rovers and it’s just been a mess since we moved in. Fun! We've owned two vintage hard tops (J40) in the past while overseas - a dark green one and later a red/white one. Fun vehicles! I would love to have one here, but it isn't practical for us. Plus the cost of fully restored ones has gone through the roof around here! Do ya'll just restore them or do you have one of your own to drive as well?

Ended up cleaning out the clothing shelf in my closet. It had been in disarray for awhile. Tossed a half of a 13 gallon bag of clothing. Nothing worth salvaging. Mostly well-worn pjs. Have room to easily place folded clothing that belongs there.
Today, I am gathering the shipping bags from the garage. Tend to forget they exist. The cardboard needs to go; however, it’s on DH. The truck is old and cranky and he knows how to finesse it.
Need not do so much today. It’s been a bad morning due to pain. Hoping for a full work week, which limits what happens today.

I took some in April. I took Elvis (aka the middle dog) with me since it was cooler and I wasn't getting out. Police officer who took the meds asked me if Elvis was my bodyguard 😂. I think the next one is around Halloween. My Dad ended up with some opened, out of date meds in an auction lot. They are already in my bag to give to them.

My realtor had a free electronics drop off event yesterday. I took my parent's really old computer, monitor, and printer, plus FIVE old box style 12" tvs from their house. FIVE! My mom said she hid the black & white one from my dad because it still worked. She was mad because my brother refused to plug it in and see if it still worked. We'd have had to locate an antenna!

She was mad because my brother refused to plug it in and see if it still worked. . That reminds me of my late FIL. They had a large box style tv in the den and when it finally bit the dust, he wanted us to just buy a new tv and put it inside the old box tv where the screen was. He paid a lot of money for that original tv and it was good furniture. The solution was that he got a new tv and it sat on top of the old tv until he moved to the VA home. DH definitely has those tendencies, but over the past 10 years we have been doing major purging/downsizing of belongings. He has made major progress in letting go of old things. Hopefully he won't revert when he gets older!

I finally got DH to come around to buying the two shelving units I wanted for the lake cabin. A big, heavy duty 4’x6’x2’ one for the big closet on the main floor and a smaller lighter weight one for laundry detergent, cleaning and painting supplies in the utility room. Got both of them assembled this weekend and it’s so nice having all that cluttered mess straightened out and up off the floor. Now we have a spot to stow the cooler and totes we use to transport stuff back and forth between home and the lake out of the main living areas, as well as the games, extra paper products, dusters and cleaning supplies that live in that closet.

I have 5 more Land Rovers that are disassembled, we will sell 3, the defender pick up with be a farm and plow truck for the house and one series I’m going to convert to electric someday. I love the J40’s too! There’s a guy here that has a dark blue one with a white top and it’s gorgeous. I’ve actually seen a lot of Land Cruisers around lately, which is great to see. DD really wants an International Scout II but she doesn’t want it as her first car. So we are shopping for a semi-restored one.

Finally got some things out of the house. I had sone clothes and things we inherited but weren’t using snd they went out. I asked if they would take Christmas items snd they said yes so came home and grabbed some outdoor Christmas stuff we aren’t using. Most of a half height shed is empty . My son has been organizing them so I think he moved some outdoor chairs from the garage plus a couple that were folded up on the patio. I will have to check it out tomorrow. He has been organizing areas around here and he is amazing at it. A few old broken trash cans and plastic crates went in the trash. I wish my son could do a few more areas around the house. He has done one garage, several sheds and the closet under the stairs. He reorganized some tools for my husband recently too. It feels good to see stuff leaving and organized areas.
