I really didn’t like it when we watched the first season. Neither did dh. But our friends kept raving lol so recently we started again. The second season is “okay” but what bothers me is the characters are so evil. It’s so dark. No spoilers but just watched an episode where they lost me again. 😳😱 I guess I just can’t take the evil and violence at this point in my life - so I’m just going to watch the (gorgeous!) horses.
(I did enjoy 1883 but had to look away! I like 1923 so far)

I can't watch it either. I tried to watch the 1st season. There is just too much violence and sadness. I think there were a lot of animals hurt in the 1st season too? wasn't there? horses, etc. I can't remember..but it totally turned me off. My family all love it though. I'm ok with not watching it. Funny thing. I had no problems watching GOTs, or house of Dragons, and they have those same aspects.

Why try again? I have decided that the character’s motives for the things they do are so selfish that I’m not interested in watching. Not everything is for everyone. 🤷♀️

I watch it, but really don’t like it. I like it when I can watch a show with DH, so I continue. I missed most of the first season but have watched all episodes after that. I did notice that the past 2 episodes had more horses and scenery than usual. DH was bored, but I actually enjoyed it.

My 90 year old mil loves this show. Dh and I didn't last an episode.

Plenty of our friends love the show but DH and I didn’t watch past the first season. It was so over the top and not in a good, fun or campy way.

I tried, too. The lack of likeable characters made me quit trying.

I haven’t started it but keep hearing it’s so good. This isn’t making me want to give it a try. I have season 5 on the DVR since it isn’t on streaming so maybe I should give it and try and if I don’t like I will just dump them. I have heard that the 1800 one is better.

I also tried. I really wanted to like it ... but I just didn't. People were very exciting about the opening of Season 5 - and I thought I should try again. I'm now thinking, after reading the above, that PEA-ple who didn't like it originally haven't found it improved on the second try! But I am glad to hear about the two earlier ones -- 1800 something and 1923?? I'm probably not going to worry about Yellowstone - but head to the earlier of the two earlier ones!

I liked 1883 and 1923 more than Yellowstone. I agree about the violence, which often seems gratuitous, and a couple of the characters seem like caricatures of themselves — just too exaggerated. I was watching but recently have skipped it.

I am also trying to get into,it. However, I can not stand Kevin Costner or Kelly Reilly. Can not stand her. Chronic overactor. He’s a chronic underactor.

DH & I tried. We just could not get past some of the absolute ridiculous 'ranching' practices. Granted, we don't ranch on a big spread in Montana, and we are farmer/ranchers - so that's a whole 'nother ball of wax. BUT - oh lord! I think it was the first episode, and they stopped to 'rescue' a calf being born. They jumped the fence, yanked the calf out by hand and the calf jumped up and sprinted away. WTF - that's not how it works. AT ALL. I laughed and told DH to rewind it, because it looked like a week old calf and possibly was born with the ear tag (not, but yea...ridiculous)
And the violence. I just don't care for it.

(I did enjoy 1883 but had to look away! I like 1923 so far) Yes, that. And same for Yellowstone. I just do not like it. Now the 1923 Native American torture is hard to take but maybe it will wake some people up to what went on. Anyway, DH really dislikes Yellowstone and those hard ass women were hard to take in the few episodes we did get through. It's just no one is likeable.

They jumped the fence, yanked the calf out by hand and the calf jumped up and sprinted away. Writers need to tune into Dr Pol!

Often the shows, movies, books, whatever that are SO hyped up and "everybody" loves it doesn't mean you will. Try it, move on if it's not for you.

I didn't watch "Yellowstone" until this past summer. We can watch it because nothing else is on, but I really had to ask my Mom (who loves it) if I was missing something. It's basically Soprano's on a ranch, IMO. She said I hadn't missed anything and that's exactly why it was "so good". /shrug

I have a love/ hate relationship with it and the more I watch of it the more I dislike it. Why idolize people that if you cross them, they kill you. They treat each other like crap. Beth's character has some major mental health issues. Everyone blames others for their problems, because it can't possibly be the result of their own actions.

Man DH and I just binged the whole series over the holidays - and just finished episode 7 from the newest season. The killing to get their way has been a bit insane. Beth is hot and cold for me - sometimes I love her and then she does something that sends me in the opposite direction.
The flashbacks are interesting - I love seeing how they all got to be who they are. Jamie is a giant weenie and needs to go away. I’d hate him too if I were Beth.
For the most part we’ve enjoyed it.

We’ll I guess I have bad taste, glorify violence, and whatever other objections that have been mentioned, but I love this series. And if you’ve read any of my posts about TV and movies, that’s saying something because I watch next to nothing.
I loved 1883 too. I haven’t watched 1923 yet.
I think I enjoy Beth’s character because there have been so many male characters through the decades allowed to be that brash and crass, but almost no female characters. I find it intriguing that she’s so no holds barred alpha - and the backstory of why she’s that way.

I love it, but its not for everyone. I like 1883 and 1923 even more. I like Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. The scenery in all of them is spectacular.

I enjoy the show even though they're all horrible people. Beth annoys the crap out of me and always has, I know a lot of women sort of idolize her and I kept waiting to see what made her so amazing. Here we are a few seasons in and I am almost to the point of fast forwarding her scenes. But overall I like that the show gives stunning scenery and unexpected storylines.

There is certainly lots of eye candy in the show which makes watching all the violence a little bit easier. I enjoy the show and take the violence and language as part of the deal. The writing is fantastic and the lines that come out of Beth and John’s mouths are often hilarious. The scenery and horses are beautiful. Although the story lines are sometimes far fetched, it is entertaining and I look forward to each new episode.

DH loves its - I will watch with him if I'm not doing anything else. If I was choosing what to watch I would skip it. I have a hard time with the awful people and the violence as well. I did see the first episode of 1923 - that looked good.

I am another one who couldn’t get into it, even Kevin Costner didn’t help!! Couldn’t remember what turned me off but reading this thread I’m sure it was the animal cruelty.
