I was lucky enough to have a US friend up here last year and she brought me one from here: Cheeky Monkey Cake CompanyIt was DIVINE! She doesn't ship to Canada or I'd have ordered again!! She's a good friend and her flavour choices/quality is amazing.

I just saw a king cake flavored vodka! the girl mixed it with cream soda! it looks DELICOUS and I love cream soda. I bet I won't be able to find it here in MD tho ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) (the vodka, not the cream soda)

I’ve never heard of this and had to Google to find out what it is, what is symbolizes, and the like. Since I love brioche and cake, and am all in for icing, it sounds tooth-achingly delicious to me Love learning new things, thanks Peas.

I would describe it more as mildly sweet. (Most of the sweetness comes from the icing and filling)

I remember with great fondness all the King Cake parties I went to while living in NOLA. Saw this meme yesterday: ![](https://i.postimg.cc/R0HbyCNM/323564490-614920680168318-4988137103051291746-n.jpg)

Before he retired, my husband worked as an in house attorney for an oil and gas company. During Mardis Gras season, he always received two or three King Cakes from the Louisiana law firms he worked with. Thankfully, my husband left most of the cakes at the office to share w/ the entire legal department, but he always brought at least one cake home for the family to enjoy on Fat Tuesday.
When my daughter was in kindergarten, my husband rigged it so she got the piece w/ the baby. We told her that according to tradition, she would have to supply the King Cake next year since she got the piece w/ the baby. We all had a good laugh and forgot all about it. A couple of days later she came into the kitchen w/ a very concerned look on her face and said "Mommy, if I give the lady at the store the baby next year, will she give me a cake?"
I noticed then that she was clutching the plastic baby in her hand like she was scared to death she was going to lose it. I felt so bad because I realized she had been worrying for two days about going into the store next year and asking for the King cake.
I hugged her and assured her that Daddy would bring home the King Cake again next year and that she really didn't have to go to the store and get the cake herself.

This reminds me of the episode of Servant (does anyone watch it???) where Leanne makes a king cake and eats the entire thing with her hands while trying to find the “baby” 😳

And it is also paczki season! I saw Walmart had these in the bakery section. They also had a big cake called 3 kings cake for Epiphany. I have never seen that before. It was for the Hispanic celebration of Little Christmas. I had to buy it but I didn't get to try it because I gave it to my son's family. One year my granddaughter and I made a king cake out of Pilsbury cinnamon rolls and then we put the colored sugar all over it. We used an almond because we didn't have a little baby.

I get excited when I see them in Walmart because I know the bakeries will have them soon. The ones at Walmart are a little different from the ones from a couple of bakeries we get them from...kind of like a filled jelly donut vs. a donut "sandwich" full of fillings and fruit. One Valentine's Day my husband surprised me outside my classroom. He was leaning up against the elevator, after driving 2 and a half hrs, holding a box of pazcki. I love flowers but if I have to choose...bring me the pastries!

Anyone else just not impressed with King Cakes? I thought it was because I'd never had a real.one, but I'm NOLA right now and had a piece.today. Bland. Like coffee cake where they forgot to put any filling in. And I don't care for the icing either. Maybe I need to be drunk... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

And soft beautiful danish dough - so yummy!

I’ve had some from small bakeries that was ooey gooey cinnamon deliciousness. I’ve had some from grocery stores that was just sad dry crumbliness.

Just like any other recipe some people just can’t cook/bake them. But on the other hand there are some really good ones. The goods ones are moist and flavorful not overly sweet and will have you wanting more.

Bumping this thread -- I just returned from my FIL's funeral in Louisiana. My SIL picked up a bunch of king cakes from Dong Phuong Bakery, and they were DELICIOUS. So so good, more like a flaky croissant texture than a cake. I'm a big fan of the cinnamon one.

There's a bakery on my way home (3 Brothers for Houston locals) that is supposed to have great King Cakes, and y'all are making me crave one. I haven't had a good one in a long time.
