My DD has been visiting, and we each made one. Months ago I had bought the Scrappy Tails A7 Storefront dies, as well as one of the add ons, and the mechanism dies for creating the instant pop up. That means it is flat in the envelope, but when the recipient takes it out of the envelope, it instantly pops up into the 3D shape. In some ways it is similar to a box card, but with a box card, the recipient has to open it into the 3D shape manually. I had received a store bought card years ago that was an instant pop up box card bouquet, and I have been looking for something like this for years. Both that card and the Scrappy Tails card use a rubber band. However, it has to be the right size rubber band. I did finally manage to get the 4 inch rubber bands off Amazon, but they were both too wide and slightly short of the necessary 4 inches. I ended up having better results with fine elastic cord cut to 9 inches, doubled and knotted so that it was a 4 inch diameter loop. The dies had to be separated, but they cut well. They have a LOT of pieces. You can get creative and make a variety of houses/stores with the dies and add ons. My DD used nearly all dies from the Scrappy Tails set, but I brought down some other house card dies that were a good size to use as add ons, so there are a couple of die cuts that aren’t made by Scrappy Tails. DD’s house is on the right. Mine is the one on the left.

I’m so glad you finished your cards, can’t wait to see the pictures. I bought, but haven’t used that die yet.

I should have also mentioned that I used their site on Wednesday to ask about the rubber bands. My iPad automatically used an email that is supposed to show in my in box, but didn’t for some reason. I finally saw it today. They had responded on Wednesday, but I just hadn’t seen it.
This was their response:
“…usually rubber bands that are 3.5 to 4 inches long work the best. We like to use the slightly thicker once (not the super thin once). I get mine at Walgreens usually (they also carry them at various Dollar stores and at Office Depot/staples too.) if your rubber bands are too long, you can always cross them in the center once or twice to tighten them up. If you have really long rubber bands- you can also double them up. Usually in the “variety packages” there are a couple that work well. Usually slightly thicker once definitely work better, For example 1/16th of an inch in thickness.l is ideal, definitely not the once that are 1/32 of an inch - those will likely snap.
I hope this helps Sabrina”
Our own experience was that the size they recommended did not work well for us (too tight), but using thin elastic cord worked perfectly. I think the problem is that elastics vary. Some are tighter and don’t stretch enough, even if they are the recommended length.
Also, when cutting the house, use heavier card stock for the walls of the house. You can use any weight for the roof and add on pieces, but if your walls are thin, the elastic won’t work well.

Thank you for the compliments! It was a really fun (though time consuming) project. scrappinheather, I couldn’t find any rubber bands that worked, so I used thin elastic cord from Dollar Tree. I cut it to 9 inches, folded it in half, and tied a knot near the end so that I ended up with the perfect 4 inch diameter elastic. The knot is small enough that it doesn’t interfere, and it has just enough stretch to work well without bending the walls when the house is folded for putting into the envelope. I also recommend heavier card stock (only) for the house walls. Any weight is fine for the rest of the house and add on pieces.

Those are some fun 'cards'. Love your decorations on it. They don’t look like cards, do they? However, they are essentially just box cards, are folded flat like box cards, and may or may not include a sentiment or note, which can be easily included. The instant pop up mechanism just gives a surprise element to this box card.
