I was given several orchids... 15! and lots look good but some look terrible. Leathery leaves rotten roots.... I dont know if they can be saved. this lady must have had 50 orchids in all states of demise. She collected and neglected. I soaked them, and removed the sphagnum plug and trimmed dead roots . Now im doing the soak all day dry all night method to rejuvenate the leather like leaves.
Have you had success rejuvenating orchids?
pet peeve.... dont water your orchids with ice cubes!!!! OMG they are tropical and if you want to ice burn the roots, give them an ice cube.... also when you buy a new orchid, soak the roots and remove the sphagnum plug that was the plants first little nest it started to grow in. if you dont want to water orchids a lot when you repot, use a combo go bark and a few BITS of sphagnum moss missed in.

My mother had the greenest thumb I've ever known. She had a special love for roses and orchids. My older sister also collected orchids and had a little glass greenhouse type addition on the side of her house where she would rotate them to get them more light if they needed it. She had them in every room of her home. Her house was right on the ocean and must have had exactly what the orchids needed because they flourished in her place.
Myself, I do okay, but I didn't have the time to devote to things that they had. I do wish I had asked Mom more about her rose care. They were stunning. Everything she grew was stunning. She had an orange tree that had the most flavorful oranges I've ever tasted. And after they sold their home, I was so sad to drive by it and see that they removed that tree! Their home was purchased to turn it into a care home since it was a single-story home. But they should have kept the fruit trees to give fresh fruit to the people living there! Fresh orange juice from Mom's tree in the mornings was amazing.
And she was like you - loved the challenge of rescuing an almost dead plant that had been sorely neglected.
Can you post before and eventually after pics of your rescues if they make it?

I have a love/hate relationship with orchids. IMO, bonsai plants and orchids are the Olympics of gardening!
I really like Miss Orchid Girl on Youtube. She has been pretty helpful. I tend to have problems with mealybugs on my orchids and discovered rubbing alcohol on a q-tip kills them instantly.
I have had limited luck with rehabbing orchids. They thrive really well from May to October because it's so warm here. But gosh, they are finicky! It's hard to find premium medium here to pot them in. Probably one of the reasons I have had limited success.

We have a lot of orchids and our biggest challenge with some success is getting them to rebloom.
Our neighbors often bring us orchids on the brink of death and often, they're too far gone. We have revived a couple though. No tricks up our sleeve though. Good luck! I hope you can save some of them!

Good luck reviving them. I got one in the fall of 2021 and got it to rebloom this fall.
I never understood the ice cube thing either, tropical rain isn't ice cold. I saw someone dunk their air plants in cold water for a few seconds. I soak mine in warmish water for awhile. I water my plants with room temperature water, I fill the watering can and let it sit so the chlorine can evaporate.

I had an orchid with no roots and only 2 leathery leaves and have been rehabbing it. So far it has grown several new leaves and a series of roots.
But the leaves that were already existing and leathery are still damaged and only the new leaves look nice.
So I think you can save it, but the 2 damaged leaves will likely stay looking that way until new ones replace them.

oh wow what a daunting but fun hopefully project! My mom does well with orchids but honestly she doesn't even do anything special to them. Its a combo of being in the perfect non direct sunlight location in her back sunroom and well, her climate zone 24 Sunset (Ventura) is like orchid heaven.
You can do this!
