I’ve been breaking up old kits as I try and catch up on PL. I have some ephemera stored in flat bathroom trays from target. I went to purchase more and it appears they are no longer sold. Boo.
so it’s back to the drawing board. I am planning on storage by theme/shape. (stars, hearts, word strips, tickets, flowers, etc. Themes - Christmas and travel for sure. I might keep older OA stuff separate until I use up some papers)
I have 2 drawers available in a wide Alex unit. Maybe 1-2 kallax squares as another option.
Desk top space is kind of limited. Ideas? Any stacking trays out there? Open to creative uses.

I use the small photo boxes (by Iris or similar) for small embellishments - I don't have a ton so I just have 7 - 6 coloured and 1 clear - and I sort by colour. I have them in my Alex drawer (they fit in the deeper one) but they also come in cases that hold 16 - I have a bunch of those that I use for photos - I prefer clear for that but they come in rainbow also. Pretty sure these will fit on a Kallax shelf And I have found a set that holds 5x7 photos if you need something a bit bigger - I think that one was at Joanns

I use Iris cases for embellishment storage, sorted by theme. Non-themed items are tougher! I have smaller boxes sorted by color, plus flowers in another box.

I bought a set of clear acrylic drawer organizers in different sizes from Amazon and sorted ephemera into those. They fit perfectly into a few drawers of my Alex. I like having no lids and compartments that lift out. It’s easy to pull one out and put on my desk to look through for what I need.

How about clear stamp pockets like the Avery Elle ones?

Consistent with my scrapping style, I don't use many embellishments so have relatively few to organize. Diecut packs & chipboard pieces (removed from the sheet) are stored together by manufacturer in clear, stackable, 4x6 Iris photo cases. If you're interested in continuing with non-lidded trays to store your ephemera, consider inexpensive clear box frames (with the cardboard inserted removed). They are widely available in a variety of standard photo sizes, have straight sides to eliminate wasted space in drawers, & usually stack. HTH & you find a storage solution that works well for you.

I do open divider trays from ikea. I can't remember what the name is but I do know they fit in the raskog cart and also my Alex drawer. I organize by color (because I tend to think along those lines) and I like that I can take the trays out to find what I need. The only exception is that I keep all my acrylic or acetate words separate and my AE chipboard separate. Those are in upright storage if there are enough pieces left. If there is only one or 2, they get sorted into my ephemera trays.

Ok I remembered finally to snap a quick photo of what I am doing now for my ephemera. These are clear acrylic containers from TJMaxx that have removable lids. I sort everything by color family. These boxes are about 5.5 in square so they stack nicely and are big enough for me dig through without being too big. They’re also big enough for larger ephemera like frames and big die cuts. I can easily grab a box of whatever color and take it to my desk and work. I like that they’re clear so I can see things that I would have forgotten about otherwise. They’re sold in sets of 3 for about $7, so they’re pretty affordable and TJMaxx, Homegoods, Tuesday Mornings etc all sell them so easy to find more of need be.

I'm not certain how much of my dissatisfaction is with my embellishment storage and how much is with the fact that many of the embellishments I have stored were not particularly chosen by me. Lots are freebies and things like that. I suspect that the things I'm unlikely to use (or would only use on a cards to donate sort of project) are cluttering my access to the things I've chosen and actually use.

i find ephemera hard to organize and store. should it be by manufacturer or theme? color or type?
i have most of my ephemera in a 60-drawer card catalog. the xmas, halloween, and travel related stuff are in rubbermaid stacking snapware containers.

Depending on how big you want each tray you might consider stackable puzzle sorting trays.

I think it depends on how you scrap. I 100% scrap by manufacturer. I keep my embellishments together (twist ties) by line, stored in Iris containers by manufacturer. When I pull the paper for a layout I grab the embellishments. When I’m tired of a collection or used most of it, I tend to donate to friends or charity. If I do keep some embellishments the are stored in one Iris case sorted generally by color.

I’ve been looking for storage like these but they are not available. Bummer. They have drawers that pull out that are good too. I just don't love the white plastic-y stuff that much. I guess they do have clear drawers at Michaels, and they hold 2 x 12 paper.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I’m debating between trays for the drawers or some sort of stacking set up for a kallax shelf/cube.
I’ll have to check out TJ maxx for some storage options. I have a few of the trays from ones for the Alex drawers. I haven’t tried to stack them at all (they currently hold wood shapes and chipboard shapes)

I can 100% relate to this dilemma. I have a small space and can become overwhelmed quickly. When I have things like that, I offer them to my crafty friends or post them in my neighborhood Buy Nothing Facebook group (where people can give away or request things other neighbors may have before they go buy it). I love that group so much.

I have tons of these and love them. They are $6 and store quite a bit. They don't quite store anything that is 12 inches though. Here is a set of them that store extras and then one of them that has been broken into 6 categories of ephemera.

I have also used the $1.25 "crystal" serving trays from $ Tree. If you just have flat ephemera, you can put a lot in the tray and just stack them.

I am starting to consider something like that jennoconnell. I am mostly a cardmaker and the ephemera packs SB.com gives as freebies seem more geared toward scrapbooking (duh, right?). I have a colleague who scrapbooks, so I may offer her dibs. Or maybe see if anyone's interested here. Mostly I think it's time to stop saying to myself, "Well, since it's free...." I also blended contents of old cardmaking kits from years ago with the things I'm deliberately obtaining and using now, after watching a bunch of Totally Tiffany videos. I've started to undo that and reassemble the old kits. They are not my style/not where my crafty joy is (per JM's recent video), but I've been using them to make cards to donate. But I have some regret about the time I spent organizing that stuff! I did use a binder for embellishments, a la Totally Tiffany, but not one of her giant 12 x 12 "scrap racks". I used a regular 8 1/2 x 11 binder and filled it with page protectors, photo pocket pages (2-, 3- & 4-pockets), collectible card pages (9 pockets), and coin pages. I think that if I weren't flipping past all the stuff I'm unlikely to use, I would like the system. You can clearly see all the things and I think it is true that if you have all types of embellishments together, rather than separately storing die cuts from brads from dots from flowers, etc, it definitely sparks different ideas. Ribbon is the only thing I have stored separately, as spools don't really fit in a binder and I'm concerned that "remnants" would get creased if stored in a pocket.

I shared my system on YouTube, maybe that can help! Scrapbook Embellishment Organization youtu.be/-kNPTqoQI48This was very helpful thanks! Now I’m thinking about how to store the rest of my small pieces. I need to find a “stamp and store” substitute. I’m going to have to look for some divided trays. And I’m off to measure the drawers in my Alex carts.

My ephemera is sorted by theme in binders. I use these binder pockets and add a sticker label to the front of it. I like being able to flip through things quickly. I used to have page protectors, but things would sometimes fall out when moving the binder.
