I know photopolymer is king, and acryllic is a toss up whether the image will turn out or not, but is anyone familiar with silicone as a stamp material? I'm browsing some texture stamps on amazon, and the price tag leads me to believe they will not be the best quality.

I can’t answer your specific question, but are there any reviews? If not, I would probably not take a chance. If there are, I would consider what they say and how they say it. It should say if they actually bought the item (verified purchase).

Do you have a anything silicone at home you could try a little sample stamp on paper? Like a baking mat or something else? That might give you an idea, sort of.

Now I want to try stamping with my silicone pot holders/trivet thingies in the kitchen! Edit: I have decided to try this. I am cleaning a silicone trivet now, and hope to try stamping during the small one's nap time. I'll report back with my findings!

Here you go! I am sure with the right combination of ink and pressure, you can get a nice image. The trivet is quite floppy and big, so it was a little difficult to use, but I do like the design. I may experiment with this more later. http://instagram.com/p/Cnm2GOKOpmo

It should say if they actually bought the item (verified purchase). I read through reviews and was able to really narrow down my choices; the remaining options' reviews do talk about good quality - I just wasn't sure how discerning the shopper was It looks like most of the buyers are using for mixed media and junk journals, so the stamp can't be terrible, right? i think silicone would be a better alternative to the clear acrylic material. that stuff degrades over time, gets sticky, tears, etc. i think silicone would hold up much better.

Hi, most of the stamps offered on Ali Express are made of Silicone. The thickness of the stamps & quality can vary. Most stamp fine. It's probably best NOT to mix stamps from other sets (or from other sellers) as some clear stamps are thicker than others so you may not obtain quality results (if you're placing a few stamps on an acrylic block and that may also be true for stamp positioners).
Finally, after many years of trying to figure out reverse stamping I was able to do it this morning. In the past, I've tried blank vulcanized rubber, & acetate, etc..but nothing worked.
I've been looking for a Silicone pad for a long while and found a rolled up rounded corner Dollar Tree Crafter's Square glue gun pad (7.5" x 10.4" or 19.2 cm x 26.6 cm)...for $1.25. Did a test run.
I cut a few pcs. of white papers approx. 3" x 4". Used the Misti positioner w/foam cushion. I created a "bar" magnet by aligning 4 magnetic buttons (sold at Dollar Tree 12 pcs. for $1.25, .7" and they also offer 14 pcs., .6" for $1.25) centered onto a 2" wide and approx. 4" long Blue Masking Tape...folded the top over the magnets thus enclosing them to create a "bar". Worked great.
Placed one pc. of paper in the lower left corner of the Misti positioner and used magnets to hold it in place. In the past, I've also used Blue Masking tape to hold papers as well. Placed the Ali Express Silicone birthday bear stamp on top of the paper..lowered the lid, opened the lid and applied Versafine black ink to the stamp. It took a few tries to get the image properly inked. Removed the cardstock from the positioner. I set the stamped cardstock with my heat gun.
I cut the DT Silicone glue gun pad in half. I wanted a straight edge for the lower left corner of the Misti.
Inked the bear stamp with Versafine black ink a few times. Lowered the lid so the image stamped directly on top of that Silicone glue gun pad. Re inked and did it again. Then, I did a test with another pc. of cardstock. I placed it face down onto the inked image and used my fingers to gently press the back of the cardstock. The image transferred well. While the lines appeared not to be super "sharp". The image looked fine. I set the stamped cardstock with my heat gun. I got the reverse stamp image!
For those of you who love to make spinner cards, you can also do Double Sided stamping. Ink your stamp, lower the lid, Stamp the image on your cardstock..remove it from the Misti (or other stamp positioners). Heat set your stamped cardstock. Place the Silicone glue gun pad in the Misti's lower left corner. Use your magnets or Blue Masking tape to hold down the glue gun mat.
Ink your stamp image and lower the lid transferring ink to the Silicone glue gun pad. You may have to re ink once or twice.
Take the ORIGINAL stamped cardstock, flip it over FACE DOWN, position it into the lower left corner of the Misti and gently press the cardstock into the Silicone glue gun pad with your fingers. Now you've got a reverse image that is correctly centered.
Remove the stamped image from your positioner. You can use your die to die cut the stamped images. I like to hand cut my stamped images.
Helpful hint: I purchased Joann's clear vinyl (don't remember the thickness, but it wasn't the thinness nor the thickest) and cut to size to match the Misti lid. It clung on fine and I don't have a messy inked lid. I usually have a damp paper towel handy just in case ink gets onto the clear vinyl...ink should probably be quickly wiped off as once dry, it may not easily come off.
The stamped image on the DT Silicone glue gun pad can be easily removed by washing it off with dish washing detergent ie, Dawn as soon as you've completed your stamping...(using inkpads that are NOT permanent).

I am just over here eyeing my Mickey Mouse head silicon trivet/jar opener wondering if that would make a cool stamped background...

That turned out great!!! I need to try securing my trivet to my stamping platform. Sounds like a project for this weekend. Now I am just going to look for random things around the house to try and stamp with, ha!
