I use as much as I possibly can on cards. Sometimes I use extra pieces to add dimension behind something cute - like if the sentiment isn't usable but the shape is the same as a piece I am using I glue them together instead of using foam tape. Some extras that I like but can't use on cards end up in an ephemera notebook I keep and I RAK or give away things that seem usable.
But I also came to the realization that throwing a die cut straight in the trash vs putting it into a notebook or onto a card that will one day be trash doesn't make that much difference (to the earth). If it can give someone a smile before it's trash that's great, but I don't have the space or bandwidth to keep track of tons of little bits. So I do toss some things in the bin now, usually when I've used up the rest of the collection.
My city's paper recycler doesn't actually accept small pieces of paper (if less than 4x6" they tend to get missorted in the mixed waste streams) so I shred and compost them or just trash them.

It's a little bit of blasphemy to me. I try to have a set space for paper, embellishments, etc.. Once things get tight, I throw some things away. Sometimes I just enjoy looking at them.

I put it in a bin for the local stamp store's garage sale. It used to be they sold it for you (you priced it yourself) and you got a credit. Since they started them up again (took a break due to Covid) we have changed it to having tables & selling it ourselves, and just getting the case. I much prefer that system. It allowed me to drop prices & bundle things to get rid of it. Last sale, in summer 2022, everything went.
How I do it is if I have stickers/die cuts/chipboard I try to pair it with pattern paper I am purging, so it's a colour coordinated kit.
If for some reason that doesn't work, I'll just sort them some other way & try to sell them. And for that stuff, what doesn't sell, I donate to a local kindergarten class. They'll use it.
Stamps/pattern paper that doesn't sell at the garage sale, I will sell on FB.

I keep a bag for the give/take table at retreats. If the bag gets too full or something is truly hideous, straight into the bin it goes.

A lot of what I toss are the teeny little flowers or hearts, etc that are less than 1/2". I especially hate fake buttons! I just tossed 3 in an embellishment packet that were maybe 1/4".

I have granddaughters and they are in girl scouts... so, whatever I don't really want to keep or know I wont use... the girls can keep or I pass along to their mom to give to the troop leader.. she is always happy to get anything crafty...
If it is more junk journaling and not age appropriate for the gds... I will put some of it the gift boxes I give to a foster home that houses girls... every Christmas I make up a shoe box sorta gift of stuff for the girls that live in that foster house... (my ddil grew up with that family)
