This woman posted five things she never does/her kids aren't allowed etc.
One was eat at other people's house until she's got to know them well. Ok, I get that. But one thing that would make her not eat at someone's house is if she visits and they give her a drink and grab the glass right out of the kitchen cabinet or dishwasher and do not rinse it off before putting the drink in it.
I've never heard of that. Not with a clean glass. I mean if I grabbed one out of my cupboard and it looked suspect, I'd get another one. Or totally wash that one.
Several other people said they felt the same. That it needs to be clean by being rinsed, to get any dust/bugs etc. I have never heard of people doing this or seen anyone do it when getting me a drink at their house.

I would never think about rinsing an already clean glass before I handed it to someone.
If it's in my cupboard or a clean dishwasher, it's clean.

Weird. If you get the holiday glasses and china out, that has been sitting for months, rinsing or washing would be in order.
Out of the dishwasher, they are sanitized... Hotter water then rinsing in tap water.

Some people are just nuttier than a fruitcake... that is what I have concluded.
Living on a farm with livestock, your opinion of clean changes. The one thing both my husband and I were adamant about for our kids, was that they wash their hands well when they come in the house.
Washing a clean glass? That's obsessive.

I believe there are three types of people, neurotic germaphobes, normal clean people and disgustingly filthy people. A person who would not drink out of a clean glass that is sitting on a shelf in a cabinet is the first type. It must be difficult to live with that level of fear of germs.

That is not even based in reality. Other people's food I completely understand, if you haven't seen them cook it then you have no idea what their food hygiene is like...do they cross contaminate food?, is defrosting chicken juice dripping onto salad in the fridge? did they use leftover rice from last week?, did they leave things on low heat on the stove for 3 hours? food poisoning is real and can make you really sick and is sometimes fatal. But no-one gets sick from a smudge on a glass, a few specks of dust or even a dead moth. I remember when I was in my 20s and I poured my current boyfriend a glass of wine (in the special, not very often used wine glasses) and then I saw him looking into the glass...I asked him what was wrong and he said "nothing's wrong...I'm just watching that moth with the little scuba tank on"

I saw that same one. She is really funny. Did you see the rules for her funeral?
I had the same reaction to rinsing the glass. I personally don't like a glass that is wet on the outside. I think *that* is gross, but she has her preferences. I have never heard of it either. I would be more suspicious if you gave me a wet glass than a dry one.

Weird in my book. And I store most of my glasses upside down so no real chance of smuck getting in the glass. Not that I even worry about that. My mom always put her glasses upside down and I just followed her way.

People are wierd. Store you glasses upside down if you think it's a problem. If it was from the front of someone's cupboard I would assume it was washed recently. How would a rinse of water clean it? Then they have to risk drying it with a towel that might not be clean. The madness will never end!

As a child/teenager we had a big family reunion every summer in the middle of July. It was in the middle of nowhere at a park and the adults would be there setting up hours ahead and set the food out and it sat out all day. As I got older, I stopped eating anything except stuff my mom and aunts brought that they brought in a cooler. And I'd eat it right away. After that I stuck to chips and drinks only! The thought of all those mayonnaise and pasta type salads sitting in the heat. Gag.

I believe there are three types of people, neurotic germaphobes, normal clean people and disgustingly filthy people. A person who would not drink out of a clean glass that is sitting on a shelf in a cabinet is the first type. It must be difficult to live with that level of fear of germs. First, the rinsed wet glass seems grosser than the dry glass from the dishwasher or wherever-- and if it is dried off, someone sticking their hand in the glass to dry it with a paper towel or :::shudder:: a towel (of unknown usage) is gross too. Second, I agree with the above. Luckily most people I know are not neurotic germaphobes, and a couple I do know realize that they are the exception and try not to impose those issues on their kids/others. I also think there is a subgroup between normal clean people and disgustingly filthy. The group that knows their home isn't super clean, but has awareness and self preservation and makes sure to not do anything unhealthy for their family or others. I add this one in as I would love to have a normal clean house, and sometimes it is, but with our schedule, at times it goes farther than I want...I would ALWAYS make sure anything I use for food prep is clean and sanitized though. Always!

My niece has a weird thing that she does regarding glasses from cupboards. She has to blow in it before using it. Every single time. I first noticed it when she moved in with me for a short time. Then several weeks later, I saw my younger sister, her mother, do the exact same thing. Guess I learned where my niece picked it up.
I asked my sister why she did it. She said it just felt better to blow out any dust in a cup or glass. I asked her if she had done that to MY coffee cup before filling it that morning. She said she probably did since it was a habit that she just did without thinking. I am more grossed out by her blowing in my cup because you can be sure that there were minute particles of spit that went into my cup. I told her from that point on, I would get my own coffee at her home, thank you very much. She thought it was weird that I thought it was weird. You want to blow in your own? Have at it. But not into mine, please. And this is the sister that was always complaining that when one person was sick in her house, everyone got sick, every time, no matter how much they tried to stay away from each other.
I would also find it weird if someone handed me a wet glass.

Especially when it is a child! You can visibly see the spit accompanying that determined effort to blow out all of the candles with one blow! I have never been a lover of cake anyway and will typically pass on the cake but take the ice cream. It wasn't about the hygiene of the candle blower, I just don't like cake. Especially store-bought cake where the icing leaves that greasy film in your mouth for ages. Now pie, yum!

The group that knows their home isn't super clean, but has awareness and self preservation and makes sure to not do anything unhealthy for their family or others. This is the category I would consider myself. Life happens and my house is typically decently clean, but no one would be using me as a role model for a clean house. Life happens and cleaning the house falls into a lesser priority than experiencing what is happening/not making myself miserable trying to attain a perfectly clean house.

even as a bit of a germaphobe, i find that rinsing-a-clean-glass-straight-out-of-the-cupboard thing a little odd. if i saw someone do that, i would wonder if the glass was put back dirty or slightly used in the first place. now if i looked around and the house seemed kind of icky, i guess i would appreciate the rinse.

I could understand it if there was open shelving involved. Open shelving doesn’t seem super clean to me. I have open shelving. I keep the glasses turned upside down. Plates are used frequently. I only have things on open shelves that are used daily. It's just the 2 of us so there isn't that much dust. No I would never rinse a clean glass.

Well, anything I can’t recall when I used it last gets rinsed. I live alone & use certain glasses regularly so if I have guests I probably ri se the other glasses
My plates all get used because I wait until the dishwasher is full so it’s mostly just the glasses.
HOWEVER, I wouldn’t think twice if someone didn’t rinse a glass to pour me a drink.

I’ve read that you aren’t supposed to store glasses upside down. That they’ll pick up more schmutz and germs from the shelf surface than from being exposed to the air.
I store glasses right side up in a closed cabinet (because that’s what I have) and I wouldn’t dream of rinsing them when they come out of the cabinet. Or blowing in them. =shudder=
Not a germaphobe, but not a total slob, either.

I do this at home, because of dust. I give everything a quick rinse before I use it. Especially if it's something I haven't used for awhile.
I have witnessed: The Mother of a former boyfriend would wash the dishes by hand with the same sponge she wipes the counter, stove, table and sink with.........then rinse the soapy for about 3 seconds. So gross!
A cat laying on top of the clean dishes, in the dish drying rack. Then they shooed the cat away, and put the "clean" dishes in the cupboard. So gross!
