I have a large bottle of Bearly Arts Glue and I poured some of it into a tiny little empty bottle with a needle tip last week. When I went to use the glue in the small bottle a few days later it was very liquid and it smelled like sour milk. It was really gross.
Has anyone had this happen? Is it because of the bottle I poured it into, like some kind of reaction? When I poured it in last week it was fine, there was no sour smell, and it was thicker. Th large bottle is probably 1-2 years old. I've never had this happen before, it's so strange.

Yes! I've had that happen with Aleene's Collage Pauge. It happened to a large bottle. I had to throw away half a bottle because it separated like cottage cheese and had a terrible odor. It makes me nauseous to even think about it.

Do you think there's a way to store it so that this doesn't happen, like in a cool, dark area? Or is it just inevitable based on the batch?

I bought some Glitter Arts Glue that was very watery. I live in a cold climate, so I am not sure if perhaps it froze in transit and that might have done something to it. I tried another batch of the same glue and it was a much better texture. I did just open the runny bottle again recently and there was no smell...not sure why I am still hanging onto it! After reading this thread I think I will just toss it before it develops any weird smells or textures.

Wait, don't toss it. I had the same problem with it being so runny I couldn't use it so I contacted them about this back in November.
I can't find their reply email, but they said to shake it gently back and forth (side to side, not up and down) and it should thicken back up. And it worked! I was so happy because I have the big bear bottle refill (because it's hecka cute!) and didn't want to toss it.
ETA: the same shaking motion worked for my old formula GK glue and the LF glue tube.

I would try the mixing advice above, but if that doesn't work you should contact the company, especially if the big bottle has gone bad. The small one might've been because of a reaction if the bottle wasn't completely clean, I guess. But Bearly Art specifically sells their glue in big bottles on the basis that the glue won't go bad, doesn't freeze, etc etc, so if the big bottle has gone off they should hear about it.

i have Aileene's Tack It Over glue that's easily over 25 years old and it's still good. i've never heard of smelling bad. separating or hardening up, maybe, but never turning rancid. maybe bacteria got in there somehow?

Elmer's glue goes bad after a few years, I know this as an art teacher.
I haven't had any other glue go bad but I haven't kept any scrapbook glue that long.

Still worked fine, but I like the slightly thicker one I have now. Wonder if is just a difference from batch to batch? I've had glue separate too. Although my first big refill bottle of Art Glitter glue was good for over 2 years, so I did buy another refill bottle recently.

I had an issue with a super old bottle of Aileens tack it over and over and when I squeezed the bottle it disintegrated in my hands. I'm pretty sure the bottle was over 15 years old so I guess that's how long it lasts.

I had my gallon sized bottle of Elmer’s go bad at school. The bottle is half used (I refill glue bottles every month) and it formed mold! The entire top has a brown skin (think the color of chocolate milk) on top. Nasty. I’ve never had that problem before at school and never at home with my scrappy glues. No idea what happened!

I had an issue with Diamond Glaze (I think that was the name).
