When I read about this missing capsule, that could fit on your fingertip with room to spare, I didn't give the searchers much chance of finding it. it was lost along a 1,400 km, (870 mi!e) route. But they did! Of course, it would have been better if it hadn't lost it in the first place. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-64481317

I'm glad they found it.
But amazed that there weren't failsafes in place to avoid the situation all together.

I'm shocked they found it so quickly, it's tiny.

I didn’t give them much hope of finding it when I first read about it last week. Needle in a haystack indeed but glad they managed to.

You would think wouldn't you but having seen trucking programmes from the Australian cutback I'm also not overly surprised. Past a certain point the roads are really tough going, they have a term, corrugations, the road is exactly like driving over a corrugated roof with bigger lumps and bumps. I've seen drivers have to stop regularly to check their loads haven't moved or ensuring the straps are not being cut by the constant motion against the side of the trailer or whatever they are carrying. It's definitely a driving job out of the ordinary. Hopefully, they install a more secure system.

This is in my home state so has been daily news here. Lots of questions about how this happened and who is going to pay the bill for the search.
It was lost on a major highway so no corrugations. The road is fully sealed and is the main highway from north to south of the state.

I had images of outback roads in my head so losing it on a major roads is really unacceptable. Hope the local authorities can make the company tighten up their procedures.

I figured they'd find it pretty quickly. That sucker would send a Geiger counter into overload. Cesium-137 is a strong source of radiation.
But sheesh, falling off the back of a truck? They've got to be kidding. How incredibly dangerous.

But amazed that there weren't failsafes in place to avoid the situation all together. You'd think! How embarrassing! Ah Australia, the land of "Yeah nah, she'll be right mate."
