Welcome to 28-4-28 and "Shape Up!" Thursday challenges! Thursday challenges will focus on how to use basic shapes on a page, and the twist will be a specific shape to use. WEEK 1 your challenge is to create a BACKGROUND of a repeated shape. It can be orderly, or messy. It could be die cuts or stencils or stamps. I have a BUNCH of examples (mostly old pages...apparently I'm fond of this technique!) and I hope you are inspired to give it a try. Please share your project on this thread! WEEK 1-4 your twist is to use CIRCLES, TRIANGLES, SQUARES, HEXAGONS or TAGS as your repeated elements...but...choose wisely! These 5 shapes will be the same every week but you may only use each shape ONCE this month to meet the twist! So if you use circles this week for the twist, next week you have to choose from the remaining 4 options! Now, to flood you with examples! 1. MESSY SHAPE ARRANGEMENTS This is a bunch of nesting circle dies (with rough edges) cut out together to create graduated rings. I then scattered the rings on the background pp, thinking "nest" type feeling for my chickadee. I sanded the cardstock for texture (it was distress cardstock, so took to sanding well). layout a bird in the hand by kirstendrew, on Flickr layout drowned toilet cat by kirstendrew, on Flickr layout blueberry by kirstendrew, on Flickr 2. ORDERLY SHAPES: I love using repeated shapes, as you can see through these examples using triangles, circles, trees and squares: layout float and chill by kirstendrew, on Flickr layout beached blond by kirstendrew, on Flickr layout dancing for peanuts by kirstendrew, on Flickr layout and an orange kitten in a pine tree by kirstendrew, on Flickr (and one of my favourites ever) layout gritty kitty by kirstendrew, on Flickr POINTS: Challenge team members can earn points from playing along, but if you are not a member of a team, just ignore this: Earn FIVE points for meeting the challenge + a BONUS of TWO points if you meet the twist on the same project. Bonus 500 points for completing ALL 28 challenges--with or without the twist--on or before March 7th.

Cool. I have been wanting to lift one of your circle background pages, kitbop! I linked this challenge to the 28-4-28 list, but not sure if I got the description right. Please let me know here and then I can go back and change it if need be.

I hope this is where I'm supposed to post this... midnight by BreetheFlea, on Flickr the circles were a Silhouette cut file I forgot I owned... The papers were scraps, except the background which is so old I can't remember where it came from... I'm not sure where that shine bright came from, but it rhymes with Midnight and I'd probably never use it on a people layout. That was fun, I might have to put circles on all my layouts now

Yes. This is the place, breetheflea. So glad you are playing along with us. Awesome use of those circles. My mind is still spinning, trying to narrow down what I could do on one LO...

breetheflea - Midnight is adorable! Love the circles you chose! I picked hexagons this week - all except the white background are from my scrap folder.

I put together this layout using December's Hip Kit Club kit. I fussy cut the diamonds from one of the kit papers. I cut my title with my Silhouette and inked it to match my photo mat. kitbop - loved all your examples! breetheflea - I liked the use of circles in your layout and all the fun patterned papers linda - The blues are so pretty and plays really well with the color of the truck in your photo.

Wow! So cool that we have circles and hexagons and diamonds, in all different colour schemes, and all the pages look AMAZING! I need to stop thinking about what I could do with this and actually DOING something!

Here is mine. I chose triangles. Also using this for this month's Donna challenge (Use your F words). Dude Day Fun by Gramma Dee, on Flickr Spent alot of time overthinking what I was going to do, but in the end just decided to tack down a bunch of triangles and then work the photos and title and journaling around them. Once I shut off that pesky left brain; started doing instead of THINKING; it came together pretty quickly. Thanks for the challenge, kitbop !

kitbop, all of your pages are amazing. You have such a great eye and your design abilities are marvelous. You have love in the gallery. Linda, I love all your blue hexagons. Great colors together. Cute addition of the hanging dice. Wonderful use of the challenge and twist. scrappymeg, I love the way you inked the title to match the diamonds. I need to remember that when I don't have the right cardstock color. Very clever. Adorable photo and lovely page. grammadee and scrappyrabbit, you have love in the gallery! Great job on this challenge.

I chose circles for this one. A happy circumstance that I worked circles into my 28-4-28 Day 13 challenge 28-4-28 - #13 by CLAUDIA LOVELESS, on Flickr

kitbop I LOVE your examples. I don't have fancy art words to say why, but you bird in hand picture was especially captivating. The vellum and crown were special touches I liked, without interfering with the main photo. I remembered the repeated squares from before, and their saucy angles. It must have been a lot of work (fun work!) and I hope your DH feels honored (and the cat too!). Your backed and non backed tree outlines were pretty special too. breetheflea ooo such great patterns in the circles. What a sweet face. Linda Love how your cascade of blue hexagons and their varied patterns point to the (very) blue truck. Perfect is true and just right. grammadee triangles for a mountain layout?? Genius!!!! So many fun touches, maps, landscapes, people, sneakers - something to delight the eye at every turn. scrappyrabbit LOVE how your colors combine and how you used squares as a grid system, then overlapped the pictures to break it up. Which is true, you are awesome at picking great kits or at putting different papers together? nylene that is some CRAZY hair. Lovely polished work as usual. I always admire your triple layer titles. Chinagirl828 lovely, just light, delicate, balanced. Is your photo a vintage one from years gone by? gramma so many kitties!!!! I especially like the printed one peeking from behind the photo. You have lovely kitties, celebrated exuberantly on your page. Hoping to work on my Day Two tonight...)

Which is true, you are awesome at picking great kits or at putting different papers together? Thank you friend! In this case, I used 3 different patterned papers from different companies that I thought went together for this nautical layout. The red paper isn't from a nautical line at all, but it has that feel.

My repeated shapes layout. What do you scrappers think? Should I add snowflakes, snowflake glitter or tiny hexagons with stamped snowflakes ind the top third, or leave it as is?

Love what you did with the hexagons. I would support adding a few snowflakes drifting down, but not necessary. Tiny stamped hexagons would be cute, but a lot of work for a page that already looks great.

Thanks for the fun challenge kitbop ! Background shapes are some of my favourite designs to do. I chose to use triangles for my first LO for your challenges. I'm not sure whether you can tell or not, but I made some of the triangles look like they were cut out of the white paper. My page is a scraplift of a Jess Mutty page that I found on the Fancy Pants site. I actually started this one over a month ago, but couldn't find a photo to use. I went all the way back to my 2011 photos for this one.
