‘Tis the season for organizing, decluttering, minimizing, and all that!
I’m ignoring all of the emails from scrapbook dot com about organizing products. I need to pass on a few of my older stamps and dies or rotate out some seasonal ones into secondary storage space but I am determined not to buy any new stuff to hold my stuff.

I had a bunch of 8x8, solids & patterned. Made 21 Cards for Cubs, will recycle ALL scraps once the insides are decorated, and made mini slim envelopes with the remaining full sheets.

Best I've got is a crupboard 🤣 My kid came up with something starting with “card”…maybe cardbinet? Maybe I should just call it my cardboard  There are definitely spots where my new storage could be more efficient with differently shaped containers, but I’m trying to hold the line and reuse as much as possible. The two plastic bins on the bottom center and bamboo rotating shelf for inks are the only things I bought specifically to fit. |

Here's the new...something. We have not found a clever new portmanteau for the China cupboard turned craft cabinet.  Mostly set up at this point. I was shocked to discover that what I REALLY have too much of is...paper. I don't seem too overloaded on stamps/dies/stencils/embossing folders after all, especially since I ditched any of the Altenew storage pouches I'd been using. looks awesome - enjoy |

Shakti What a pretty cabinet. I have an armoire for storing mostly paper. My DH used to call it "Archivers", LOL.

I've started cleaning. My room got pretty bad. I didn't take before pictures and I think I'm okay with that because it's kind of embarrassing. I have a small box of stamps to give away, but I have a larger box of stamps that needs to be added to my organization system, so there is more purging in my future. I also refuse to buy more storage. I was debating buying another nice acrylic drawer unit for washi, but I decided that some of my washi just has to go. Also on the chopping block are some of my Thickers and alphabet stickers. I have too many and some of them are ugly or in a pile at the bottom of the package. Paper needs to be gone through, but I can't face it yet. I have to get the floor cleared first (I am a piler.)

I am slowly finally separating my colored cardstock from my patterned paper so I can find it more easily. Hopefully the first of many scrap room organizing projects of 2024.

One time I made a bunch of words on sticker release paper from what was left and then tried to assess whether I would ever actually use those words on a project. I kept some for a while and used a few. Some of them ended up in my sticker/ephemera journal so I still get to enjoy the font but there's none of that frustration when I go to use it on a project and there's really nothing that works. Sometimes I can use random words on silly cards. At a certain point I feel like trashing it and moving on is OK to do. I can just tell myself there were only useless Qs and Zs left anyway, no possible words left. (a lot easier in theory than in practice) |

(a lot easier in theory than in practice) My problem with this is my maiden name started with a q and I use the z’s on mass for pages where I have photos of sleeping little peas 😅 So I have random alphas EVERYWHERE as they are all technically still useful!!! |

Can we talk envelopes? I know this would be better over in the card making area, but there's no dedicated decluttering thread there.
I just made a few 4x6 cards for the first time. I was pretty sure I had a few envelopes that size. I went into my odd-size envelope stash. YIKES!
I have four that will fit cards that size -- they're about 4.5ish by 6.25ish, so clearly overall, but they'll work.
I have a large collection of envelopes for 5.5 x 8.5 -- I know the project that brought these into my life; don't know if I'll ever make cards that large again.
Some 5x7 which I have some likelihood of using at some point.
And then so many onesies or fewsies of SO MANY oddball sizes of envelopes. And odd half-sheets and panels of some kind of paper or card stock.
A few look close to A2 and might work for that size in a pinch.
But I really just need to recycle all these weird ones, right?

I would be tempted to try and make cards that specially fit the envelopes, even if they are small and I wouldn't mail that size. You could always tuck them in with a gift or something. You could also use them to create a mini book, if thats your thing. I've used odd size things in my my travel albums. Me? I would probably keep a few odd sized envelopes but then find someone else that could use the others. |

Do you ever want to make custom size cards? I would be tempted to try and make cards that specially fit the envelopes, even if they are small and I wouldn't mail that size. I can't imagine ever wanting to do this. I can see that trying to make a card to fit an envelope would have the same sort of challenge as writing a sonnet instead of free verse, it doesn't really tickle me. I think I will flip through some Club Scrap card instruction sheets -- I think they may sometimes make 4.5x6.5 or something like that. And I did find some odd card stock when DK cleared their craft stuff -- 5.5x7.5 -- I suppose if I have 5.5x4 envelopes maybe that would be a match. Little gift enclosure types I'm definitely keeping; I don't have many and they're small.... |

Shakti - I don't have a ton of options here so I donated to Goodwill which is my main donation place. I often see bags of random stuff (envelopes, crayons, pencils and so on) on their shelves so I figured it had decent odds of making it on the shelves there. We don't have paper recycling here at all. If I lived closer to a Repurpose Project store - I would have donated there but our closest is about an hour away.

If I lived closer to a Repurpose Project store - I would have donated there but our closest is about an hour away. I had never heard of this before. I searched for it and it appears that there IS only one store. In Florida. I do have Big Brothers Big Sisters coming tomorrow to pick up a donation, so maybe I'll add a box of random crafting stuff to the bag of clothing. |

But I DID find a crafty thrift store not too far from me. Actually probably the perfect distance from me -- too far to drop in casually all the time and buy stuff I don't need, but close enough to drop off a box of donations now and again!

I love that idea so much. The only problem is that there is a stupid little elf door that gives access to the attic/storage space under the eaves of the roof (the house is 1.5 stories, no walk-up attic). I have some ideas. We could have it so that one section of the shelving is actually on castors so it could pull out and we could access that door. After we've moved in, the plan is to finish that area to store items I don't use often (like my bin of DD supplies or some toys/clothes we want to save in case our kid has kids). Thank you for sharing this. |
