Can we talk envelopes? I know this would be better over in the card making area, but there's no dedicated decluttering thread there. I just made a few 4x6 cards for the first time. I was pretty sure I had a few envelopes that size. I went into my odd-size envelope stash. YIKES! I have four that will fit cards that size -- they're about 4.5ish by 6.25ish, so clearly overall, but they'll work. I have a large collection of envelopes for 5.5 x 8.5 -- I know the project that brought these into my life; don't know if I'll ever make cards that large again. Some 5x7 which I have some likelihood of using at some point. And then so many onesies or fewsies of SO MANY oddball sizes of envelopes. And odd half-sheets and panels of some kind of paper or card stock. A few look close to A2 and might work for that size in a pinch. But I really just need to recycle all these weird ones, right? I have a small stash of oddball sized envelopes but I might take the advice I was going to give you - recycle/shred/trash them unless they’re really nice quality envelopes. Sure, I could probably use them, even if it meant folding down some extra height/width and taping it closed. But since I have literally hundreds of the size I use 98% of the time it’s probably not worth bothering with the thin odd-sized envelopes that came with a random card. They’re just adding to the pile of stuff I have to sort through when I’m looking for something to mail. If you have a good number you could probably donate them. I’ve seen such things at my local St Vinnie’s. But I wouldn’t put too much thought into it. You probably didn’t know you had those specific sizes and will probably never miss them. |

But please tell me you’re keeping the blood red walls 🤭 Ha! No. They will be pink. I saw the perfect shade in the Ikea craft room group, took screen shots, and wrote it down. But I think the ceiling will be white. White trim. We'll refinish the hardwood floors. They are oak and are in very good condition. If you zoom in on the last photo and look out the window, you can see the river. This is why we bought the house. OMG My heart is giddy seeing the shiplap behind the red! I think you might be seeing the lath board. It's what the plaster is supposed to be attached to. But there was a roof leak in the past so the plaster is falling off or loose. We need to add some insulation (as there is none, not a surprise in an old house). So like behind that lath board is the roof. You can touch the sheeting the shingles are nailed to. Anyway, I'm super excited. |

I can't believe how incredible it is to have found a craft supply thrift store. I've emailed them and they take kids' craft stuff, too.
The high-value, recent release, name-brand stamps and dies I'll probably still try to resell on FB.
But there was so much stuff that could be really useful, but seemed to have a low likelihood of getting into the right hands if donated to Goodwill or the like. I'm feeling really good about letting some of that go now. I'll probably have DH drop off a box this weekend!

http://instagram.com/p/C1-wLBoun1Y I did it! This is the before. All my travel supplies except for paper. Top box is 3x4 cards. Still need to go through these as it’s full. Second box was a hodgepodge of rando stickers and die cuts. Now it’s all stickers and die cuts and is full. Bin with the blue lid is not travel. I had forgotten. That is everything I have that is not paper or otherwise themed (WITL, Christmas, Disney, or Fall). Embroidery floss bin that I started using but it wasn’t working. Now it all makes sense to how I scrap. Kraft envelope is new stuff I recently bought and it’s all now in its place. Two 12x12 bins now empty and I’m down to one 8.5x11 bin of long sticker sheets and random larger stuff. Took all night but I loved it. New pic soon. |

I painted and purged my scrapbook last week. Took four days. I purged paper, punches, and random tools. I ended up getting rid of one whole ladder shelf, a shelf of punches and now my paper has some room to breathe. good job 950nancy Looks Great!! Today I tackled the binder I had with all of my un-themed alpha stickers. My themes are December Daily (I won't use those colors any other time. I know me), Halloween, Fall (again I probably won't use the colors any other time), and travel (I don't really have alphas for travel). I got rid of at least half, maybe more. I just did it. Gone! They were in a 3-ring binder and bursting. Now they fit in two of the slim 8.5X 11 cases. Works much better on the shelf. I might get into page protectors. What is stopping me now? And I had some ink cubes that I had not yet swatched so I typed the names into the document and printed it out. I probably won't stamp them today but I did the hard part. |

WAIT! I was telling my kid this thought and realized it also kinda sounds like "Craftin' It" -- I think that clinches it.

What is your WHY? are you out of space? has your style changed? something else? If you're out of space - take it one drawer/shelf/cube/container at a time. Decide what category is going to live there and put your favourites of that category in the space. Then your next favourites. Once it's full (not overflowing or jam packed but usably full), then the rest can leave (or you can trade out something in the space for something you like better) ...keep going until the spaces are all done. Then if you have more stuff that doesn't have a space - either donate/sell/trash it or make space for it by trading it out for something else). (Dana White's container theory) If your style has changed - look at your stuff one by one...would you buy this today? do you see yourself using it on the projects you are making now? If not, then consider donating/selling/trashing it. |

Then I'll take my things out of the room (often to my bedroom) and just do one supply type at a time. Last week I did twine and ribbon. I got rid of maybe half of it. If I try to do too much at one time, I start keeping most of it because my brain has moved onto other things. |

I love the above suggestions, here’s another different approach I have… I’ve found the easiest thing for me to do is as I’m scrapping a project if I come across something I will never use or only slightly maybe use perhaps I put the item in a time out box. After a few months I revisit the box and by then: a) I have a lot worth of items I can list for sale online b) I quite clearly do not intend on ever using that product ever And then I list them and put them in my “listed for sale” space. You can easily replace the last step with donating at that time too! There have been a couple of items re enter my stash from the time out box, but not a lot. It’s a slow process but I have never regretted what I’ve destashed, if I do a big all at once I’ve found I regret getting rid of some things. |

I struggle with that also - I spent so many years making do that I know pretty much anything COULD be used. BUT - will I (or you) actually use it? Will we remember that we own it when the time comes that it could be used? Will we be able to find it? Or will we just use something else that will work just as well (or even better) that's easier to find or that we like better? Can you box up and store some of the scrapbook items in order to make what's left easier to find and use? That would give you the option of re-integrating it back into your area later once you've made more space OR make it easier to donate/sell/trash in the future because out of sight...out of mind. Good luck |

I wanted to share an organizer dh built me for the top shelf of my 3 tiered cart from Michael's. It has back, front, middle divider, and bottom only. With the envelopes I use to store my stamps & die sets, there wasn't enough space for walls. Anyways, he built it and I chose the color. It sits perfectly in my cart and then I got to work making file cards. I just used 2 pieces if heavy weight cardstock glued together and printed the tag.    Now my stamp & die sets are neatly organized and not bending over the short back. |

He built dd Leah's American Girl hut, a horse stablemfor her AG horses to look exactly like the stables where she rides, train table for ds, race track for ds, lifts for our inflatables and light up holiday figures to keep them off the ground and protect them from sitting in rain water, wood puzzles you have to figure out how to open, and lots of other things. He loves wood working. |
