I'm planning a trip to NYC with my daughter in July and would like to catch a show. Any current recommendations? We've seen quite a few of the ones that have toured - Hamilton, Wicked, Book of Mormon, Harry Potter. I'm actually surprised there aren't more shows, but perhaps I'm not looking at the right places, or am too early. She's a college student, so looking for something fun for her. We already have tickets to Six for when they're coming to our city - although it looks like they've left Broadway anyway, but hoping for something like that - she a huge dancer, so anything with great choreography is particularly interesting!

I LOVE Broadway shows! I see them here when they come to Portland. Last month we went and saw Moulin Rouge and I swear it might be my new favorite! The sets and costumes were amazing! And the music! i love how they integrated current hits into the show. The dancing was great too.
One other suggestion - we were in NYC last spring and did the same day ticket thing. We didn't really care what we saw, we were just happy to be seeing something 'on Broadway.' We ended up getting tickets for American Buffalo which turned out to be such a treat! Laurence Fishburn, Sam rockwell, and Darin Criss were the only actors, it was in a smallish theater so it felt very intimate. I was so happy we went outside the box and saw this gem of a show.

I am looking for March and there are less shows than pre pandemic. There is a new one opening after our trip called New York New York, I think, and it looks like it could be a real winner.
ETA - MJ would be a good one. It is coming to us next year. Reviews are good and dancing looks amazing.

I would suggest Josh Groban's "Sweeney Todd?" Ben Platt's "Parade." Have you already seen "Hadestown?" I loved every minute of it. "Kimberly Akimbo", "& Juliet", "Funny Girl", "A Beautiful Noise" (the Neil Diamond musical - was not my favorite, but lots of people like it.)

We haven't seen Hadestown and she's a mythology buff so that caught my eye. The songs for & Juliet seemed fun. I know I'll get eye rolls with Neil Diamond music lol - if you could just pick one? I have to google Kimberly Akimbo, I didn't see that one.

I really want to see the Parade revival and am trying to get tickets for my NYC trip this spring as soon as I get my dates nailed down.

My college kids both loved Hadestown. I haven't seen it yet, but it's on the list.
I really wanted to see Kimberly Akimbo when it was off-broadway, and doubly so now. My kid has seen it and says it was really good. They're in a class where they go to on and off-broadway shows every week and have seen everything--I'm so jealous! They also said Funny Girl was great (saw it when Beanie was still on).
& Juliet is also on my shortlist, and my college kids want to see it.
Little Shop of Horrors is off-broadway and great fun.

Hadestown is beyond amazing and it’s well worth seeing on Broadway because some of the effects aren’t done in the touring show.
Sweeney Todd is supposed to be the hot new ticket. It would also be at the top of my list.

I go 2-3 times a year, and going again in April. I agree with peabay ’s suggestions, I plan to see Sweeney and Kimberly Akimbo for sure, and may decide on a third show as well. I personally don’t care for Ben Platt, so I’m skipping Parade. I was so bored at Hadestown…I know, I know…what’s wrong with me? Also, Six is still running on Broadway 👍🏻

I saw MJ (the life story of Michael Jackson) on Broadway in December. It was amazing! The singing, dancing, costumes, sets it was all so good. I loved it so much I watch you tube clips to take me back. It is very popular right now so you can't buy same day tickets so plan ahead.

I almost got up and "went to the bathroom" so I could listen to the audiobook I was listening to but I knew I would get endless crap from them so I just stuck it out.

Seeing Six in a couple weeks and I’m excited…love anything Tudor related.

Now six, we both thought was just incredible. I could see that one over and over

We loved Hadestown. Patrick Page and Andre de Shields were amazing. The dancing was fantastic. The set was really well done. Highly recommend.
Six was a blast. I went the week Broadway reopened and the audience just went nuts. Such fun.
I’m waiting for Merrily We Roll Along in the fall.

Bumping as we're getting close to our trip time and I'm wondering about dinner reservations. BTW we have tickets to &Juliet - thank you for all the recommendations! Where should we eat? I know this has been discussed in the past, but searching didn't work (sidenote, but the search functionality is really poor on this site!) Flexible on budget. TIA!

When I was there we did cocktails and appetizers at Bookmarks Lounge - on their terrace with views of the city. It was good: www.bookmarkslounge.com/

What do you have in mind? Do you want to stay in Times Square/theater district? I think you should eat at Joe Allen at least once - it's iconic in the theater district and you're likely to see a celebrity or two. Another place to spot celebrities is Orso. Our personal favorite is Amarone on 9th Avenue. I prefer to head over towards 9th - it's less touristy and crowded. We also like the Glass House Tavern. A friend of mine swears by Hummus Kitchen but I haven't been there yet.

Where to eat? For a yummy breakfast sandwich go to Vanilla Gorilla!
They have an incredible wrap with a croissant wrap, pastrami, scrambled eggs, etc. I dragged my friend back a second time!

We're staying at the south end of Central Park, so can easily head to 9th or even towards Lincoln Plaza. I'll check them out - thanks!

Just bumping to say we absolutely adored & Juliet - highly recommend! We missed our Joe Allen reservation due to flight delays so maybe next time! We just grabbed some sushi on way back to hotel as we were wiped! Next up Swan Lake!
