How often do you start with light colored cardstock for a background technique or even for die cutting that you ink blend on top of?
I typically reach for white cardstock as my starting point. I'd like to "branch out" and start using light colored cardstock. If you use light colored cardstock, do you have a favorite color/brand?
Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Jennifer starts the first card using light pink cardstock.

If I’m ink blending I typically start with white. It’s less expensive. I don’t do a ton of ink blending though. Mainly sunsets or a lightly colored background element.
If I wanted to add dimension to a die cut though (say some flowers), I would start with colored.

I had honestly never thought about it until I watched that JM video. I would say 99% of the time I start with white for background techniques. The other 1% I may use kraft.
For die cuts I will use colored cardstock if I have it rather than color it. I tend to just use whatever scraps I might have in my scrap folders.

For fancy dies like floral layering dies I will use colored cardstock and totally overthink the colors (or alternately choose a bunch of colors that result in ugly flowers I don't love because my colored cs stash is small). My takeaway from this video was duh, I should totally try starting with light colored cardstock for stenciled designs like my Create in Quads stencil backgrounds. I almost always reach for white because it's cheap, I have a ream of it, and habit.
ETA it's funny because another video of hers I watched recently was all about inking white die cuts for layered flowers which is also the opposite of what I do. I could cut mountains of white ones and ink blend them with all the beautiful inks I have!

I always start with white but I really love it when people use coloured cardstock for ink blending backgrounds and other technique, so I plan to incorporate that more into my cards now. I definitely see this more and more lately and it's such a good reminder to me to think about more ways to use my supplies.
