I've decided to finally try one of these, and have absolutely no idea where to start. I have a food saver and the bags, etc., so I only need the sous vide.
Do you have one that has held up well with repeated use, and is easy to use? Any features you'd recommend that I look for? I'd like one that simply fits over the side of an existing pot. Thanks a bunch!
ETA: I know they have been discussed here before, but when I do a search for the last 1,000 days, no threads (other than this one) come up.

It depends on if you’re budget conscious. My son gave me one and I use it all the time. It’s by Malaha, a cheap one from Amazon that doesn’t have an app, but works great. I have char siu pork in it right now and I use it a couple of times a week. I almost bought an Anova Nano recently. It has an app but there is a better Anova model that has better connectivity. Still considering whether or not I need it. If you decide on Anova, check their website for sales. The price was really low recently.

We’ve wanted one of these for a while, but I’m concerned about heating up the plastic film and releasing chemicals into our food. Have any of you read anything about this?

I have an Anova sous vide. I probably use it every other week? It works great and has held up just fine. I’ve even forgotten to take it out of the water a few times and it’s fine. I don’t love how much water it takes to run so I use it to water my plants to assuage my guilt.
It’s really a nice option for me, I can toss whatever I’m making in and forget about it. I use it most often for chicken breast but I’ve also made a fantastic tri tip roast.

We have an Anova one also. I love it! Perfect meat, every time! Great idea padresfan619, to water your plants. I'm going to do that from now on. Thank you!

We’ve wanted one of these for a while, but I’m concerned about heating up the plastic film and releasing chemicals into our food. Have any of you read anything about this? It doesn't get that hot. I'm not sure of the science that says what temperature chemicals leach out, but food cooks at between 120-160 degrees.

I have an Anova Precision Cooker. I love it and would buy it again. I got it at a good price on their website.

I love my Anova. It is not wi-fi, and I don't know that I would ever use that feature anyway.
I don't use it all the time, but when I do, the results are amazing. I have done quite a few beef roasts in mine this winter. Prime Rib and New York roasts. The last few I pre-seared, seasoned and then just cut and served when we were ready to eat. Christmas and other parties, so I didn't want to sear at the end with 20 people in my kitchen.

I’ll fifth? The anova. I’ve had mine several years and it works great. I’m planning on doing a bunch of char siu this weekend.

We have an Anova and a Kitchen Boss. Honestly, the Kitchen Boss is quieter than the Anova but they both are awesome. We sous vide about once every 2 weeks, more often in the summer. We entertain a lot and are kind of “foodies,” always looking for new recipes and foods to try.

I’m planning on doing a bunch of char siu this weekend. I would love to have a recipe or 'how to' for this! Sounds yummy! And different from what I usually make.

Thank you all. Anova it is They usually have great deep discounts on Amazon Prime Days and Black Friday (that is when I bought mine). Not that that helps when you want it now. You will be happy with it, I promise! mlana is a Sous Vide master - hopefully she will chime in with some tips if she sees the tag.

Thanks!

We have an Anova too. Got it at Costco. It runs in the laundry room (just off the kitchen) most of the time but when DH has it in the kitchen, it's not loud. He even will take the immersion/circulator/heater thing and put it in a smaller pot if he doesn't want to fill the whole thing. Works great and he uses it often.

thanks elaine. I already received mine and have used it twice. I’m crafting at a friends house today and am bringing it with me so my friend can try it on a pork tenderloin (it cooked mine, which I pre-marinated and cooked straight from the freezer, beautifully). I’ll let her know about the sale.
