Not yet, I have everything ready but our state gave everyone a $250 tax ‘rebate’ last year and now the IRS is trying to determine if that will be taxable and the IRS suggested holding off filing until a decision was reached. I don’t want to file an amended return, so I am waiting a bit.

I used Turbo Tax for the first time and some how it says I owe $861. I am bummed since I take zero Fed deductions on my pay and think I will try doing the return myself. No idea how I can owe if I am not claiming myself as a deduction. When was the last time you completed a w-4? If it has been since 2020, there is no option for filing single-0. If before that time, I would double check what your employer has entered in the payroll system. Are you saying that when you file your taxes, someone else is claiming you as a dependent? Under the circumstances you describe, assuming there is absolutely nothing else that you need to claim as income and assuming your w-4 is pre-2020, you should not owe that amount. I would print the Turbo Tax return and review it manually to see what went wrong. Turbo Tax asks you questions and completes the return with the information you provide. If there is something wrong with the return, it may be the way you answered some questions.

What’s a “refund” 😉
Nope, we still owe this year, so I’m waiting until the last minute. I’m hoping to get a (very) small inheritance from my father’s estate by April, and that should cover this year’s liability.
Next year we should have a refund!

One of tax documents doesn't get here until late March. It's frustrating. I know we should get it earlier, but it never comes before the end of March. We always wait on one K-1, which isn't required to be sent by Jan 31, like almost every other document. They deal with a lot of farmers, so they know we need ours done before March 1. I usually call them and they email me my K1 so I can get it to my accountant on usually the last day of the month. Frustrating!

Going in tomorrow. Usually get back what I pay in State and Federal taxes b/c of farm deductions and depreciation.
