Do you have a filing system for your metal dies? Or how do you know what metal dies you have?
For stamps that have corresponding dies, I keep them stored together so I can always find them. But I don't know what the best system is for me to know what stand alone dies I have. Do I cut a 'sample' of it and store it in a binder so I can see what I have? Or is there a better way?
Help me out!

I don't but I also don't have an overwhelming number yet (and don't plan to acquire a ton more). I just have them all in one fridge box - separated by theme/shape and the ones with stamps at the back also separated by theme. (and my QK are in binders - they were by theme but somewhere along the way....I stopped doing that so at some point, I'll re-organise)

Stamps with dies I keep together in Sizzix or Avery Elle envelopes. Die sets with lots of dies (Tim Holtz) stay together. Everything else goes on its own themed magnetic mirror. Since I can see all of the dies in that theme at once, I don't feel I need an inventory.

I have a separate fridge bin for stand alone dies. I store the In stamp pockets. Sometimes with a magnetic sheet and most times just a piece of white cardstock.
Sometimes I’ll glue a cut die cut to the white cardstock. Mostly for sentiments, to help me visualize the size, font and be able to actually read the word.

I don't have a ton of dies, besides ones that are with stamps, the rest are mostly basic shapes and some not-so-basic (flowers, tags, borders). I have them divided into 2 6x8 binders as "basic shapes" and "Other shapes". I took photos of each sleeve of dies, sometimes I squeeze little ones on with larger ones. Then printed the photos of dies for that binder on one contact sheet that slides in the front of binder. This way I just look between the two binder covers to figure out what I'm looking for.
My solution is almost always photos vs. stamping/cutting samples. I store them either as described above, or in a photo album on phone or thru Evernote.

I use Evernote to catalog my stamps, dies, stencils and embossing folders. I have a pretty good idea of what stand alone dies I have but Evernote makes it super easy to track.
I store them in storage pockets and keep them in a knock off frig bin.

I use the fridge bin method using stamp pockets. It's the way I store everything. I use the free version of Evernote to catalog it all.

I store them in storage pockets and keep them in a knock off frig bin. I tried keeping a binder with sample cuts but it was bulky and a pain to keep updating it with new purchases. I started using Evernote and love how much easier it is to keep track of them. And I really like that I can add cross references if something fits into more than one category.

I don't have a ton of dies. I have one of those scrap armoires (now called a DreamBox by CreateRoom). Both doors are covered with their large magnetic whiteboard. Those doors are covered with 90% of my dies. I really do need to see what I have and love that I can just glance at the doors. Note: This isn't my dreambox - this image is from the company website.

I didn’t include it in my original post but I always add a picture of the product in each note. I just search google, find a good pic, then copy and paste it in the note.
