Hi
After research and watching YouTube videos, I just ordered the CM paper trimmer. I’m looking forward to using it! I am however wondering why it’s not recommended to cut photos. I have another small trimmer I can use to cut photos but it’s not as exact as I’d like it to be. I print my own photos and will often print multiple photos on a 4x6 or 5x7. I struggle to get clean cuts between photos. If I print 6 small photos on one print I want to be able to cut them cleanly and all be the same size. Am I making sense? Lol
Help! Thx!

Hopefully someone who knows for sure will respond, but I have two thoughts. One is that photo paper has a coating on it. I wonder if that could gum up a traditional paper trimmer blade. Second, CM sells a personal trimmer marketed specifically for cutting photos, so I'm sure they want to make sure you need that in your life.

I looked at their photo trimmer but I don’t like the measurement markings on it.
Hmmm. I’ve never heard of any other company specifying to not cut photos with their trimmers. Makes me wonder if it’s just a marketing ploy.

I have this trimmer and I use it to cut photos all the time! I can’t think of a reason not to. I have the personal trimmer as well, but it’s a little annoying that it doesn’t go all the way out to 6 inches (for trimming a 4x6 photo). I use both to trim photos so I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

I had the personal guillotine trimmer way back when I started scrapbooking, and I never thought it was all that great for cutting photos, which is unusual for Creative Memories because their tools are usually excellent. The only thing I can think of is that there doesn't seem to be a place on the 12" trimmer to hold the photo--my Fiskars cutter has a plastic flap that my paper/photo sits under and I can press down on that to hold the photo securely while I cut. Does that make sense? This one just seems to have the rail on which the blade slides. CM was always big on being very careful about not touching photos, or wiping photos after touching them. Perhaps that is why? I've always cut photos on my trimmers, and I don't think any harm has been done.

It's not recommended to cut photos because it dulls the blade. I know advisors that have two straight blades---one for photos and one for cardstock/paper. I cut photos with mine. I haven't noticed the blad dulling yet.

Thanks. I’m just going to go ahead and cut photos with the CM trimmer. If it dulls too quickly, I can always reassess later.
I’ve been using a cutterpillar for the last 3 years or so. I think I kept trying to like it to justify the cost. But I just don’t like it.
