I only watch Dr. Phil about once a year, if that. Happened to see today's episode, about the girl that believes she was abducted, raped, held for 8 days several years ago. I can't help but wonder why Dr. Phil didn't ask questions like, "Have you gone to a doctor to see if there is evidence of having been raped multiple times over several days?" or "Have you checked into the house you identified as the house you were held in, to see who was living there when it happened?". There are always questions that seem logical to ask that he doesn't, and I end up wishing I could ask the interviewee myself.
That, and he talks really loudly, too. He was yelling at the end when he introduced his new diet book.
Anyone else watch today's episode? What did you think?

He's still on TV? He was getting irritating back when I was still a SAHM. He must be downright unwatchable by now.

I cannot stand him. I watched one of his shows ages ago, and refuse to watch another. I'll sit and stare at a wall before I'll watch his show. That fricking blowhard!

He has some of my favorite lines. "How's that workin' out for you?" and "You teach people how to treat you." & "Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?" I don't watch him anymore. Too much drama in real life.

I especially love when his wife comes on towards the end of the show and peddles her line of makeup, cologne, etc. now, too.

I don't usually watch his show but happened to catch a few minutes of today's show. I only saw the part where he was explaining to the audience that the girl ended up not taking a lie detector test. It sounded like he did not believe her story, but thought she had some mental health issues that needed to be addressed. Hopefully she will take him up on his offer and go to the "safe place" "retreat" place he was referring her to.

Does he actually help anyone? Every time I've watched, it seems there is lots of talk, but no actual helping.
I can't stand him, his wife, or his sons.

I only saw a small part of today's show, I felt sorry for the girl. He was over the top.

I used to like him. And years ago he would most definitely have asked those questions. The last couple years he glosses over a lot of things or they just get edited out to make room for the newest thing for him to hock at the end of the show.

For some reason I thought the board of psychology will nOT recognize him I heard somewhere that he is no longer licenced since he doesn't need to be for the TV schtick. Do you think the board WON'T give him a liscence for some reason?

I forgot about the Pea hate for Dr. Phil- kinda like the feelings for Dr. Oz, huh?
I was surprised when he said today that he was certified/licensed/experienced (one of those) in forensic psychology/psychiatry.I hope today's guest can get the help she needs for whatever is going on in her life.

Do you think the board WON'T give him a liscence for some reason? I have a friend who is a school psych and he cannot stand Dr. Phil. From the things he said, it sounds like they WON'T, not that he didn't bother to renew.

It was on while my teeth was getting worked on at the dentist today. I felt very Zen watching it while inhaling laughing gas.

Ok....I will be the lonely soul standing on the other side and say I LOVE him. Tape the show everyday and watch him. I always seem to gain something from him. I'm not saying he doesn't have shows that I totally disagree with, but over all I like my hour!
not sure who asked, but someone said " Did he ever help anyone?" On the show he always is sending someone somewhere to get help. Most times I agree they need it.
And not to be corny....years ago he did an episode on Oprah. That episode was about a mom losing her daughter to murder. I remember so clearly the mothers heartache. She couldn't stop grieving. And it was 10 years later. He said to that Mom, "it isn't how long or hard we grieve for that child that is important., it is about celebrating what you had with her. Instead of looking at the day she died. Look at the days she lived". You could tell that the moment he said that the moms face just clicked. She never thought of it that way. It really was touching to see! I have repeated that line to myself so often since my daughter passed away. It is like a balm when my grief kicks in. Can't explain it, as Kennedy only had 6 hours, but it makes me appreciate those 6 hours more than I would have before his message. So yes... I'm a fan of Phil's

I enjoy watching him from time to time, but I suspect I'm only watching pretty old reruns. Sometimes he is a bit over the top (some of his guests sure are!), but sometimes he is good at giving people some perspective and looking at things from a different point of view. Sometimes that is all we need, because we get so caught up in 'our side' of the story that we forget how it affects people around us. One of my favourite lines is also 'How's that working out for ya?' Cause a lot of the time, whatever we are doing, it is NOT working out for us but we need someone to point it out to us. I think Dr Phil is a man of great knowledge and compassion, but also good at selling himself (and his family) as a brand.
