A ruling is expected today. Has anyone been keeping an eye on this case? A TX judge could rule that a drug that is used for 50% of abortions in the US be banned. This ruling would apply to the entire nation, not just Texas. Texas Judge to rule on MifepristoneExcerpt: "A federal judge in Texas is set to rule on a lawsuit that seeks to restrict access to one of the two drugs typically used to induce a medicated abortion. The decision could impact 40 million women nationwide, making it the most consequential legal ruling since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. More than half of all abortions in the U.S. use mifepristone. Dr. Kristyn Brandi, an OB-GYN in New Jersey, said the ruling could mean drastic changes for patients, adding that a ban would be "devastating." "A lot of people rely on this medication," she told CBS News. "It is something that has been the standard of care for over 20 years." A lawsuit filed by the Alliance for Hippocratic medicine, an anti-abortion organization, seeks to reverse the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the drug and remove it from the market. The lawsuit alleges there have not been sufficient studies into the safety of mifepristone."

Good luck with that. Now they are going up against the drug companies and their lobbyists and that is a fight they will not win.

Time to ban their little blue pills ..

Sounds like there has been proof it is safe after 20 years..

Oh dear. I knew where it was filed before I looked it up. This is forum shopping at its finest.

I heard about it, didnt realize the ruling was today. I was fuzzy on it was being settled in TX, but I think bc it is a federal case. Supposedly this drug is what is taken when you are miscarrying - which I guess is a medically is an abortion, whether nature started the process or a doctor.

I believe this drug is also sometimes prescribed to a women before an IUD insertion? Or am I thinking of something else?

And I'll just say sorry, all, on behalf of Texas. I love my home state but I'm about at the point of arming myself and taking shooting lessons because we're being overrun by fascists and I don't think it will end well. I suppose the people here who have done their best to issue an AR-15 to every man, woman, and child in the state aren't counting on the left being armed, too.

Geez it just gets worse and worse doesn't it? Now women aren't even safe in the blue states! How one lone conservative male judge in Texas can make a ruling like this that affects the entire nation baffles me.
I'm with revirdsuba99-it's time to ban Viagra and all of the other boner pills. Hold all of those old white conservative men hostage to it. How long do you think it will take for us to get back abortion rights? I'm betting less than 24 hours.

I just saw an article that the fda doesn't have to listen to this judge, and no one will have to stop the prescriptions.. if it was an appeal court, it would be different and there is also problems with the parties' standing in regards to the case.

I hope this is a case especially if what someone said above that it’s used sometimes when you have a miscarriage. The last thing we want is to make that harder on a woman or more dangerous. I am so sick of over reach.

Beyond the fact that a corpse has more bodily autonomy than a girl or woman of childbearing age (you can't remove organs from a dead body without prior written permission or family permission), how many of these pro birth sons of bitches do you think are going to be willing to either adopt these forced births or pay money for the funds needed to raise these births? None, not a single one.

An asshole on Twitter today told me I’m not a “real woman” because I support abortion rights, and yet he has no interest in adopting or providing funding for any of the ten thousand children already languishing in Texas’ foster care system.

Sigh.

Hmm I thought we were leaving these decisions up to the individual states? Sigh. This why - and I realize I'm preaching to the choir, here - when people get all snotty about "this is what Texas voted for so it's what they deserve," I remind people that this Trump-appointed judge is what the US voted for, so I guess we all deserve it? I don't think we do, but I hope that reminder makes people think about the millions held hostage in red states.

Having needed to take that particular medication for a missed miscarriage, I hope no one ever needs it because it was the absolute worst experience of my life.
BUT (big huge neon letters) that option needs to be available. Yes, it was horrible for me to experience but it is something that needs to be available if needed.
Stupid old men. Remove their viagra from the market until they get their hands out of womens health issues.

I haven't seen a ruling announcement yet. I don't know whether that's a good thing or bad thing.
Add me as another ready to pull erectile dysfunction drugs off the market. Dudes, it's God's will you can't get it up. Bless.

As a side rant, I find it absolutely screwed up that there are multiple ED commercials, yet as soon as menstruation is hinted at, it's appalling and TMI. FFS. Specifically the Orlando Women's Soccer team has changed the color of their shorts and mentioned this as the reason. Cue the tears from the Penis Patrol.

Yes, women’s bodies are gross and disgusting (unless men are using them for sex), women who enjoy sex are sluts, women who claim bodily autonomy are murderers. I can’t imagine where society got all of these ideas.

It's one group of people (I'm guessing white, mostly old conservative men and some ignorant women) who want power and control over women. It's time for us to take the control back. No one should have control over our own bodies but us. Period!

That judge wants to make sure women getting abortions are out there in public going to clinics so people can scream at them and possibly kill them, even in abortion-legal states.

Guess it comes down to that men like looking (turns them on) and they like "doing the deed" (blech at that phrase), but they're not a fan of dealing with results. Eh; make it the other person's problem. Must be nice to live in that imaginary universe. But, wait! If you have a groin protrusion, these things are possible, in Man Made Up Land! SMDH

I actually see more anti-abortion comments from women. Particularly the very religious. But maybe men just know better than to say things on public posts.
It irritates me so much that they are trying to do this. I hope the judge surprises us all.

It irritates me so much that they are trying to do this. I hope the judge surprises us all. Some of the most virulent and ugly anti-choice posts I've seen have been from men. They tend to fall into two categories. One, youngish, radicalized to believe that women who won't have sex with them are sluts who are doing it with everyone else, and who are too selfish to accept the "consequences" for their actions. And two, much older men who feel entitled to control every woman in their lives because they've always been allowed to.

Sadly, it will go unheard by them. They're not going to listen to a woman talk about policy.
