Someone here mentioned that the Las Vegas library would let anyone get an e-card. I got one, and I suspect others of you did. I've loved it because I've been able to find e-books that my own library doesn't have. Well I just got an email from them saying that as of the end of this month we can no longer borrow books. We can continue to use some resources, but no more ebooks, audiobooks, and some magazines. They said they've had an increase in demand and they want to ensure that their resources are available for county residents. lol. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. I'm sad about it but it does make sense, since usually libraries are at least partially funded by taxes, and those of us who don't live in Las Vegas or even in Nevada aren't paying any taxes. So I agree that the residents should have first priority for things.

I wasn't able to get a card, so I wonder if they put the brake on it. Understandable.
I usually have all 5 available holds going at my Library's service. Then it seems they all come available at once!

So I agree that the residents should have first priority for things. Libraries in my state run almost entirely on revenue from property taxes. They get a little bit of money from other sources, but not much. It was common to have people irate that we would charge a $50 annual fee to checkout library materials if they didn't live in our district. That's a massive bargain. But people would still complain about how expensive and unfair it was.

Then it seems they all come available at once! Do you have ability to *freeze* holds? I wait until I'm first in line then freeze them until I'm ready to read them. It has been a great help since I started doing that!

That is always the case for me! My library has an option to delay the delivery. I can pause the hold. It puts me back on the list, but at the top. I have done that if I know I am not going to get the book done in time. I have to wait for it to come available again, but I don't have to wait too long.

I'm in a couple of FB groups for people who enjoy reading, both physical and audiobooks, and I've seen this info posted in several of them. I figured it wouldn't last forever. Makes sense, though.

I was so bummed when I read that email. That library gets way more books than my local one.
