I have.
I am more selective about my donations, since the incident on the old two peas board. It was big drama back then. When a lady name Liz had one transplant and was told not get pregnant. She got pregnant anyways and required a second transplant. With the second transplant, she cried poor. The peas rallied to help (sent money). Then a short time later.....she posted photos she and her family were at Disney World. When question she claimed "the Disney money was for Disney, not medical". Many peas were pissed and felt scammed. She had money and she could have used for medical expenses and she refused to do that because it was "Disney money".
For me it was a huge lesson learned. That particular incident became a life lesson, a defining moment.....to carry with me through life. To this day, I have not forgotten how the peas got scammed. Not everyone and not everything, is as it seems or appears to be. Givers are going to give. Takers are going to take. The old saying of "buyer beware"....also segued into "givers beware".
Since that scam, I am very selective about giving cash to someone.

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on the person (not the stated purpose of the money).
I'm not giving money I can't afford and I'm not interested in carrying grudges if the money isn't used exactly how I think it should be.

I generally do. I give not only to help others, but I get joy out of it.

I’m a sucker for GoFundMe I know sometimes people scam others but I just hope that it’s helping someone and block out bad thoughts.

I've given money to GoFundMes for strangers. And I've donated to local "strangers" in need via local collections.. So I guess it's fair to say that I would give $10 to s stranger. What I would like to add, though, is that typically, you only ever are asked for money for strangers who are in a bad spot. It seems like only kids are willing to ask for money for something good that they are saving for---think band students collecting donations for a trip. (And yes, I've given in those situations as well.) And that's interesting to me. Because if someone set up a website and said "I'm 63 years old. I've never gone to Hawaii and I'd love to go. Will you give me a buck towards my trip." I'd totally do that. Because I think it would be fun to see if someone could get strangers online to send them on a vacation one buck at a time. But I know others would be so worked up over the idea of an adult asking anyone to give them something for nothing. I guess I wouldn't see it as giving it to them for "nothing". Because as I said--I think it would be fun. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

You have always been a part of the heist. You're only mad now because you don't like your cut.

Yes. There are people on the subway who I’ve given $20 to. The way I see it is if I have it in my pocket I can afford to give it away. Even if I’m broke that day I have a job and a paycheck coming eventually.

Yes But not always, I listen to my gut and try to err on the side of generosity. There’s a woman in my town appealing to our local Facebook group trying to get $8,000 to help pay bills because she’s pregnant and can’t work and has two other children. I didn’t feel moved to help but suggested she try Instacart, pet sitting, elder sitting, running errands and she responded that she can’t do any of those things because she has two kids full time all week. I had two kids full time and was pregnant with a third and worked 12 hour shifts on my feet as a nurse so I have no sympathy for her. The post is full of suggestions and her excuses. But she’s made $145 so far so there are generous people around!

Yes, and I have. However, I don't roll my window down and give it to the guy on the street though. Same. I have donated to Go Fund Me sites for a young man's greenhouse destroyed by a storm, a local single mom who had a fire in her home and no renter's insurance, an urban farm for kids that had bicycles stolen, a hockey team who's booster club treasurer stole all their money, etc. I really like these random good causes, in addition to my money support of big organizations.

Infrequently, but yes. I'd love to be able to do it whenever, but there are a ton of worthwhile causes and if I start with one, then why not the next 100? I will do it on occasion when I just feel moved to, for whatever reason. Sometimes I really get a nagging feeling inside that I just need to do it. And I will pretty much always buy someone a meal. But the vast majority of money I donate is planned and budgeted for.
