If you were to redo the trim in your home (handles, light sconces, mirror frames, faucets, etc), which color or metal would you choose? I know gold is popular, but I prefer a silver color. I would choose a stainless silver or a platinum finish. But not chrome, I don’t like the shine. I also starting to like black finishes. ETA - I meant to add other, but I accidentally posted too soon. If silver was what I liked best, then silver is what I would use. I actually am using silver in my kitchen & bathrooms right now. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I figure trends change, and not everyone follows every trend. When the day comes for me to sell, if someone doesn't like what I've chosen, they can either buy the house and change or not buy the house. But while I'm here, I make my choices based on me & my family alone. I don't give a darn about what's popular right now.

This, but I do also throw in an occasional polished nickel. I’m a fan of mixed metals. I like mixed metals too but am not a good enough housekeeper to ensure I keep shiny surfaces fingerprint-free ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) Same, which is why I said occasional! 😂😂

We have replaced all the little tacky gold knobs the builder put on the doors with silver as we felt it was my more neutral. The split doors in the bedrooms and pantry are crystal with a chrome/silver base. All the faucets are silver. We recently changed ou the very old ceiling fans with all white ones. The fire place tools have been replaced since the were also glaring gold! I really like that it all blends. When the kitchen cabinets get knobs—I hate that they don’t have them—I will replace them with small white knobs.
I thinks you should go with what feels right for you. Get one of each color and place them around the house and see how you like them.

I know gold is popular, but I prefer a silver color. Is gold popular? I personally think it looks dated. We replaced our mid-80s brown handles etc with gold about 18 years ago. Then we replaced the dated gold with matte silver about four years ago. Matte black sink and mixer (taps/faucet) in the kitchen.

Most of the metals in our house is oil rubbed bronze or black. It's the closest to what the original hardware looks like. The bathroom and my studio are the only two rooms that have a nickel finish.

I like a brushed pewter or oil rubbed bronze. Not shiny. They both look really good with the new stainless steel appliance finish.
I am not a fan of shiny finishes for my own home.

When we renovated, I went with polished nickel bathroom and kitchen fixtures and cabinet pulls. I love the warm look of it much better than chrome.

I didn't chose a poll answer because my answer is mixed. I have a lot of black in my house these days, like bookcases and mirrors. A lot of my knobs and handles are brushed nickel. So depending on what other colors are around your house i'd choose from either of those if it were me.
I also dislike the gold trend.
