If you were to redo the trim in your home (handles, light sconces, mirror frames, faucets, etc), which color or metal would you choose? I know gold is popular, but I prefer a silver color. I would choose a stainless silver or a platinum finish. But not chrome, I don’t like the shine. I also starting to like black finishes.
ETA - I meant to add other, but I accidentally posted too soon.

I will always dislike gold as a finish. Saw to much of it in homes from the 80s and didn't like it then. Blech. Black would be a contender but I think it might show lots of water stains. A friend of mine has a black water faucet and it has some weird discoloration, especially a greenish color. Isn't chrome similar to silver? So I would go with either of those.. Bronze I like but not sure of the upkeep.

I like black, but it has to fit the house. I would always choose silver, because it doesn’t go out of style like all the other metals do. It’s like when the bowl bathroom sinks were so popular, now you never see them. I try to go as neutral as possible on the main items and change up the decor items as trends change.

Brushed nickel, which wasn’t on the list.

I would have called those fixtures, not trim.
Trim is like the baseboards and wainscoting. Faucets and handles and lights are fixtures.

We have a mix of matte black and matte brass. As a general rule, I don’t like shiny finishes.

I picked silver but am another that doesn’t really like shiny finishes…so a brushed nickel or some type of matte silver is my preference.

Isn't chrome similar to silver? Usually if I hear/see "chrome" I think shiny. I don't like the shiny silver. I think there is matte chrome though.

I am surprised no one picked gold so far. I always thought that was a "classic" choice.

Brushed nickel for me or black matte are my favorites, but I recently helped a homeowner update their kitchen and they used brushed champaign fixtures and it was so pretty.
Gold is coming back --- all of the brushed metallics are. But if they are not done well, then they just look old.

I was delighted when I found gold back in style a couple of years ago when we did a refresh. It's a more brushed gold than the brass shade we had originally but that looks even better.

Gold makes me think of Versailles. Like a lot of gold. I don't really like gold or silver for a choice. I prefer bronze (oiled, brushed etc). I can appreciate any room that is put together well though. I see lots of gold or silver on HGTV homes and they all look beautiful.

I am no decorating expert, but I love chrome or silver in a bathroom. I have oil rubbed bronze light fixtures in the main areas of my house. It's probably considered out of date now. It's an improvement from the brass fixtures of the late 90's.

We have a mix of matte black and matte brass. This, but I do also throw in an occasional polished nickel. I’m a fan of mixed metals.

Our house was built in 1988 and had a lot of shiny gold fixtures that I really liked at the time but of course they went out of style and I hated them. So over the years with remodeling, etc we updated to brushed nickel. Then I got bored with that and the brushed brass/gold is back. So what I've done is change some of the cabinet handles to brushed gold--they are easy to change. Faucets are brushed nickel and one is chrome (mistake-shows water spots, etc). My newer brushed nickel faucets are spot-resistant which are nice. And I just changed out my boring kitchen brushed nickel handles (the bar handles that "everyone" has) to a chunky black matte handle. It really makes them stand out. Don't be afraid to mix metals-much better than having them all the same. If you are going with a "trend" that might not last, make sure it is easy to change (such as cabinet handles vs hanging light fixtures, etc)

Current house is a mixture of brushed nickel and matte black. The brushed nickel was there when we moved in. I'd love to play around with some brushed or matte gold tones.

I still like brushed nickel that was popular for a while there. My second choice would be black. I do not like gold or bronze finishes.

In our house the fixtures are all rubbed bronze. They look great and fit the house, but I like black too.
