I’m on year 5 with mine and it’s starting to act glitchy. Keeps shutting off, unable to connect to wifi, then miraculously it will work. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting and am just wondering if I’ve reached the shelf life and should just get a new one.

I had the Picturemate Snap and after about 5 years it started having a lot of problems printing and I was constantly having to clean the print nozzles so I gave up and got an Epson XP-8500 (it's an all-in-one with a 4x6 photo tray). I feel like 5-8 years is the lifespan of any printer these days unfortunately. When I was in IT we were constantly upgrading printers every 5-ish years.

Ok thanks. It’s not a printing issue it’s seems like a hardware issue, and it just started recently. It just keeps randomly shutting off and on. I’m not upset about it. Roughly $50/year and I got a lot of use out of it. I don’t want to waste time screwing around with it, I’ll just get a new one.

Mine is 5 years old and it is working great still. I tend to print in spurts, but the heads and inks have never clogged. And it connects more consistently to my phone and computer more consistently than my big photo printer HP 7800, which I have a love/hate relationship with. The HP cartridges, black particularly, clog and streak constantly. I throw nearly full cartridges away far too often. The PM 400, not the case. Hope it keeps going, because I love it.

Mine is 5 years old also and prints great at home. I stopped taking it to retreats because even using Direct print I could not get it to work if the wifi wasn't really great. And it takes alot of time trying to finally get it working.

I take mine to retreats whenever I go. I’m not organized enough to print in advance. Recently I’ve just been using my computer and a flash drive to print with it while at the retreats. The last couple times the problem started when I got home….it just keeps shutting off and turning on randomly but won’t shut off when I press the power button. Weird! We also switched to 5G and it seems to have issues connecting to wifi since then. The last time I ordered a new one but then it started working so I returned it. But it’s back to being glitchy again.

mine is 7 years old (Christmas 2015) and going strong I always use the USB to connect to my laptop. I could never get the wifi option to work consistently - even at home. Maybe that could work for you? I had to retire the Epson R300 circa 2004 this year because it doesn’t work with Windows 11.

Did you check for software and firmware updates?

My original lasted about 4 years before it had connectivity problems and trouble with the on off button. I was never able to get it to work correctly even with Epson's help. I finally bought a 2nd one and it's working fine but it's only 3 years old and has a lot lighter use because I bought a different printer. I purchased a Canon Selphy that I really like. I prefer the colors, plus it's smaller and fits on my desk. The connectively on my particular internet connection is better with the Selphy. Odd, I know. I need to check for the Firmware for my Epson. Thank you BSnyder for the heads-up on that!

My first PM-400 went stopped working in a few months, so they sent me a refurbished one. The refurbished one has stopped loading paper and no longer works. Total time with 2 machines, 1.5 years! Very disappointed as I've owned Epsom printers since I've owned a desk top computer in the 80's!

Mine lasted about 3½ years, but I used it a lot. Not only for paper crafting, I made 24 page community phonebooks, printed all my photos, chipboard, manilla envelopes, etc. I only used Epson ink. The Queen hardly used hers. She used it when she was community bookkeeper for a year or so. Then it just sat there in her office. When mine gave up, I went to go use her's, but it was all clogged up and it was less $'s to by new than to fix old.

Mine is 4 and still works BUT I have to connect it via Bluetooth - wifi stopped working one day and refuses to set up again but if the printer is on I can set my phone’s wifi to go on the ‘direct1234’ and it prints no problem directly ( 1234 are not the numbers I have no idea what the numbers are ) Knock on wood it’s still going strong
