Thanks to everyone that commented on my questions about including news/current events and pop culture in your scrapbooks. The primary reason I was asking is I am starting to create monthly pages (similar to Project Life weekly pages) and I was debating on whether to include big news stories and trending pop culture (like what movie won Best Picture after the Oscars or Song of the Year after the Grammy's) in my monthly pages. Presently, I've been doing a Year in Review with News and Pop Culture when I'm close to completing all pages I want to do for a specific year. So I may not do a whole page for a specific news item although I'm not eliminating that possibility, but I do think I will include some news and pop culture in Monthly layouts AND may still continue to do a year-end news page as well. I'm just going to see how the monthly pages go first.

I don't normally include news/pop culture in my documenting, but I did do a Covid-19 timeline across about two years. I kept it hidden as a flip-up in one pocket of a Project Life spread. I felt like it was really relevant to how we were living unlike a lot of news headlines.
That said, I do note the top headlines whenever I do a Day in the Life project (which, for me, is a couple spreads that I pop into my Project Life album, not a stand-alone project).

I just can't bring myself to really care anymore. School shootings, a murder a day, road rage, homeless people on the street, and overt greed everywhere. @ 82 I'm with Willie & The Hag; www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6c6eUeoa9QWell, now it's all going to pot Whether we like it or not. The best I can tell, The world's gone to hell And we're sure gonna miss it a lot. All of the whiskey in Lynchburg, Tennessee Just couldn't hit the spot. I got a hundred dollar bill, friend You keep your pills, 'Cause it's all going to pot. That cackle-babble-head-in-a-box Must think I'm dumb as a rock, Readin' me the news While I'm kickin' off my shoes, And it's scarin' me outta my socks.

I've started doing this more in the last three years. I use divided sheet protectors for my family album. If something comes up that's memorable, I'll take a screen shot with my phone or use the Front Pages app. It's good for covers of widely circulated newspapers, but there isn't any local to me. Sometimes I'll put funny memes in there.
My pages aren't that cohesive because my life is very random and I usually don't want to devote a whole page to one thing. Although in 2021, I did a whole page of Bernie Sanders memes in his winter coat and mittens on inauguration day. I felt like I needed to end that month on a happy note.
I really like caangel 's idea of doing a photobook just for me. I have two adult children and one special needs teen at home. My family scrapping has slowed way down.

judyc I have done Oscar stuff before. I just include it all on one card with the list of categories and winners. Not ever year, and I couldn’t tell you the last time I watched the Oscars.

judyc I have done Oscar stuff before. I just include it all on one card with the list of categories and winners. Not ever year, and I couldn’t tell you the last time I watched the Oscars. i don't watch the Oscar's either, but I always like to know which movies won the top awards so I can watch them when they show up on Netflix or Prime -- and then I jot down the Best Picture winner to include when I get around to doing my yearly News/Culture page.
