Around this time last year, Linda started a thread on the subject of scrapbooking news, specifically citing the Ukraine invasion and its potential impact. Rather than continue with her thread, I thought I would ask a similar question...... do you document things like national and world news and pop culture?
I've always thought I should do this, but just got around to my first page a few months ago, and just completed my second one. And now I'm wondering if anyone else does pages like this. If so, are you doing a page for one event -- like about the Ukraine War, or Covid, or 9/11? Or including news events in your Project Life or Monthly Memories pages? What I did for the two pages was a yearly page with key news events and pop culture - like music and movies - and I really liked them, but wondering if this is where I should be spending my scrapbooking time and energy. I guess I feel these kinds of things put perspective around the rest of our lives, especially the things we did ....or didn't do .... during the Pandemic years, post 9/11, and as Linda pointed out, how the Ukraine invasion will impact us.

I rarely do in my paper scrapping. Mostly because I don't scrap in the moment so the context in that sense is already gone.
However I have started my own version of PL/Photo 365 using the PL app. I do 3 LOs with a photo a day plus I have 5 additional filler pages for the month: large photo month title page, current events/memes page, currently reading, currently watching and this year I added a senses pages that highlights the taste, smells, sights, sounds and feels of the month.
I use screenshots and download photos from the internet. Using the app makes it super easy, and I have a template that I use for each page for the whole year. I have chosen a kit and just change the filler cards for each month. This year I'm going with a specific color for each month with in the kit I chose.
Last year was the first year I did this, I printed individual pages and will add my regular LOs (eventually) to the proper month. This year I'm going to print a photo book. My regular LO will be in their own album.

I've documented COVID but only because it had such a direct impact on our day to day lives. My son was a senior in 2020 so I documented how everything changed with moving to schooling at home, no prom, limited graduation celebrations. Then he got COVID that summer so I documented that as well. I also documented some of the things we were doing while we were staying at home like Zoom calls with family & friends (remember when that was such a new concept??) cooking new recipes, doing puzzles and game nights.
At one time I had thought about documenting 9/11. I had pictures printed, etc but I never did it.

I am dedicating one side of a pocket page each month to current events/headlines in my PL. Last month I included the Chinese weather balloon, the Ohio train derailment and one other story that has slipped my mind. Not every month is headlines, or bad news. This month in one of the pockets, I have a screenshot of my daughter’s acceptance letter into the college she’s transferring into.
I was not scrapbooking during the pandemic, but I really wish I had! It would be interesting to look back at, years from now.

I've included a few things over the years - stuff that either impacted us directly (Covid pandemic) or that for one reason or another was meaningful to me and I felt inspired to scrap...
the latter includes 9-11, the Columbia shuttle disaster, Invasion of Ukraine, the resignation of Pope Benedict and the election of Pope Francis, the 2020 election, Biden's visit to Kyiv,
I have notes and photos set aside to scrap the Platimum Jublilee and the eath of QEII and plan to scrap the Coronation as well.
And there are some older events that I plan to include in retrospective layouts but haven't yet.
And early on in my scrapbooking - I did a 'year in review' at the end of a year's album with headlines, prices, music/movies and so on. But somewhere along the way I stopped doing that (probably when I stopped finishing albums in a timely fashion)

I have one page of me in a mask. Other than that, I don't scrap world events.

Not really. I made a couple of semi-covid related pages and a page with a brief summary of 2020 in how it related to Covid but that's about it.
I might think about it now that I am reading this post...9/11 was the first event that came to mind. I could combine my thoughts/feelings of that along with our visit to the 9/11 memorial and museum.

I rarely scrapbook such events, unless they impact us personally.
I did scrapbook 9/11, but we lived near DC when it happened, and had friends at the Pentagon who miraculously were spared. We had vending machines at a mall right across from the Pentagon, and my DH and DS serviced the machines soon after the trqgedy. They saw some of the Pentagon’s destruction from the high rise parking area.
I also scrapbooked the Beltway Sniper. It directly affected us. We lived in fear at the time, especially since at least one of the victims was killed near where we lived, shopped, and frequented.
Those were difficult pages to scrapbook.
I prefer to scrapbook the happy events that our family experiences. However, at the time that those events happened, I was doing calendar pages, and I felt I had to include them. The same was true of the death of my mother. I relive those events and am sad every time I look at those layouts. As a result, I have not scrapbooked anything like that since. I have plenty of happier memories still needing to be included in my albums. I have a couple of hurricanes to scrapbook, but only because we experienced them personally and were directly affected by them. (I will never again go anywhere near Florida during hurricane season.) Pop culture isn’t important to me, nor are world events something I want to preserve the memories and photos (as far as scrapbooking). Unless something like that personally affects us, I will stick to scrapping our happy times instead.

I include current events. I will print the front page NYT for things like the election and pandemic. I also include big stories in a year in review and a list of significant (to me) deaths. But I don’t get into the weeds, just highlights.
But I’m also not a “story” scrapbooker. You won’t find any navel gazing deep thoughts in my albums, just the facts. I’m also a big fan of memes and post them in my albums.

I have been adding in a lot of screenshots to a monthly insert, in my chronological album. I have included some screenshots of news events and memes etc. By nature I am an everyday moments scrapbooker so these things fit in well. I tend to chose news stories that I have an opinion about. I would love to know what my grandparents thoughts were during various elections or any world events that had some impact on their lives. I did do a covid19 TN.

I have only scrapbooked about Covid because of the direct impact with us all. Dh is a teacher and both kids were in school. But it was only about what on line school, what we did to have fun, and what Covid caused (no TP, masks, instantcart, etc).
My grandma saved newspaper headlines from major events but with everything digital, I see no need to do that.

I only have a couple times.
I think I made a page of 9-11. I have to look in my 2001 scrapbook and check. If I didn't, then I will make a page or two and put them in there.
The most recent is the pandemic. I took photographs of empty store shelves, package of toilet paper, empty place of business, home gym stuff--empty gym parking lot, my comfort food, and my tested positive results, etc...

If I'm having a slow Project Life week I'll put in the front page of the newspaper or screen shots of news stories. I do include big news stories like the insurrection on Jan 6, when the war in Ukraine started, earthquake in Turkey, things like that but I don't make a regular scrapbook page about them, just inserts in my PL books.

I mainly do project life and I usually include 'bigger' events into my album. Things I include are things that I am interested in and not just things that affect me. I've included Covid, elections, The Queen passing, shooting down the china spy balloon, Olympics.

In previous years, I would use certain big news stories as fillers for my Project Life. But because I was always so far behind, I couldn't remember what had happened when I got to that particular week. Sometimes I do a google search for new articles for a particular week. This year I had planned to take a screen shot every time there was a big news item. But so far I have only remembered to add two things: Lisa Marie Presley's death, and something very newsworthy, the release of Bounty flavoured M&Ms!

I may put a major headline in my memory planner, like I noted when the Queen passed but that's about it. I do have a large pandemic spiral notebook. I started saving screenshots and articles as things shut down in March. I have jokes, memes, weekly updates from the CDC, hospital letter authorizing me to be out on the roads, outbreak updates, vaccine being created, pics of the first vaccine we (the hospital) rec'd. I just glanced through it, pretty extensive. Last article I added was about the Omicron variant in December 2021.

do you document things like national and world news and pop culture? I think this is an entirely commendable and worthwhile pursuit. I would LOVE to be able to see a "snapshot" of big news scattered with my pages to give me contextual information about the times we were living in. Unfortunately, I do not scrap chronologically, nor quickly. I cannot keep up with my birthday photos let alone the news. I WANT to be one of those "record keeping" scrappers - I think if I had started PL when my kids were small, this could have happened. But I've turned into a simply scrap for fun/make the art/use mohr things scrapper. So best intentions, but no Hey hey, gonna scrap him coming to Canada last week? No??? My BIL missed his hockey game because of Biden so there was some international tension in our house (due to security/road closures/cavalcades). And that's as Canadian a statement as one can make like I noted when the Queen passed If you've seen my pages, you know my love of titles. Being Canadian, the Queen's death created a "pang" in most of our hearts. But I seriously want to do a scrapbook page called, "Ding Dong the Queen is Dead". No disrespect intended

I do include it in Project Life, not traditional scrapbooking. Only the stuff that really impacts our family on a personal level. Recently that would be Covid, Trump and attempt to overthrow, RBGs death, overturn of Roe, etc. I have 3x8 album for Covid because it was monumental enough to include it. I also have a 3x 8 album of Harry Potter…discovering the series, when we reached finished reading the series, fav book, fav character, etc.
I have the entire Taylor Swift concert ticket debacle in photos. Debating if this needs a scrapbook page or two. Or just include in project life.
Lots of screenshots and memes.

That's something I never thought to do...except - my older grandson was just under a year old when 9/11 happened; his brother was only 6 days old on 9/11. I had done a 1st year book for each of the boys and included a 2-page spread of 9/11 in each of their books. The situation seemed to call for some sort of dedication or remembrance for that day. 9/11 had changed so many things. But other than that, I never considered scrapbooking national and/or world events. But - I do journal so I've made mention of different events in there. How interesting it would be to look back on those scrapbook pages, with the journaling and memorabilia included. Now my mind's churning...

If it’s big news or impactful I will include a screenshot in my PL with a flip up on my thoughts. I wish that I did more of it because it’s interesting to look back but it’s difficult enough just to get our daily lives done. A monthly recap would be cool. I wish I could just find something to easily print.
From the pandemic I have a dedicated TN. My WITL album from 2020 & 2021 contains a lot of pandemic stuff. My husband & I both work in fields in which we still had to keep going in to work throughout and it was nuts so there was a lot to include.

... do you document things like national and world news and pop culture? ... Yes. I exclusive scrapbook, using 12x12 albums with various sizes/configuration of page protectors, & include a list summarizing major national & international news, sports, entertainment, etc. for each year in our (now college aged) son's albums. Effects of the pandemic, first time voting, etc. also have separate layouts.

I did one layout called Lockdown Life and I’m really glad I did. I included pictures of toilet paper memes, empty grocery store shelves, dalgona coffee, long lines to get into the grocery store 6 feet apart, the first ad I saw for masks, and more covid related things. I don’t really scrap current events. Trends maybe, but not current events. I like doing an occasional month in review layout and I think I’d like to include one or two headlines in them.

I do if it's something that affects me or that I want to record my thoughts on, even if it's just a card in a pocket page spread. I've done lots of pages related to covid/lockdowns/changes to everyday life, but I've also included the Queen and Prince Phillip's deaths, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and some US politics. I periodically include cards detailing what I'm watching/reading/listening to and how I'm consuming that media (book vs ipad, watching at home vs going to the cinema, etc)

I also scrap world events if they impact my life. I have created pages about Covid, the Queen's Jubilee last year, multiple hurricanes we have rode out, and of course the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2016.
I also love scrapping space things, so a few NASA missions, lunar eclipses, and comets have made it into my albums as well. There may be more, but that's all I can remember at the moment.

The only world event I have ever scrapped was covid. I made one dedicated page to some headlines and used the die cuts from a covid scrapbooking collection, and then some of the pages that followed were pics of us grocery shopping in empty stores, setting up a work from home desk, doing random things inside the home during lockdown, etc. I also had my loved ones send me pics of them during lockdown and put them in a collage as well. But covid/lockdown was such a life altering event for everyone. I don’t see myself ever scrapping more regular news events. Elections, celebrity (or queens) deaths, etc definitely not.

I used to do some but I am so far behind on other stuff I just don't get to it. I did some Covid pages, the election of Harris as first female vp, voting, and I had printed up some BLM George Floyd stuff I never got around to scrapping. I also wanted to do something about Queen Elizabeth/King Charles but haven't.
Some time ago I did one page on Katrina and one page on 9/11. I also did Hurricane Isabel because it hit where I live.
I think descendants would find it interesting if I would include some of these things, but I haven't even done birthdays and holidays, or finished my own photos from my 20s and early 30s. So I just don't get to it despite the idea that I would like to do at least a page of current events.
Culture - that I don't even think about as part of my pages though maybe I should. If I have time in this life.
