I followed the sketch very closely for a change and made 3 of each of these cards, 18 in total, to use up the lovely Catherine Pooler paper that MichyM shared with me The only change I made was to use the smaller mat size that Shakti figured out to get an even border around the patterned pieces. I embossed the card base to give the background a bit more interest. April share, Sheetloads by jo.blackford, on Flickr

Ooh! Embossing is a fantastic way to deal with all the white space in this sketch. Those are beautiful.

Ooh! Embossing is a fantastic way to deal with all the white space in this sketch. Those are beautiful. Thank you. I realized I could've used colored and textured cardstock for the card base instead of the mat but I'm cheap and was low on cardstock so this was a better solution this time.

I buy quite a lot of assorted packs of cardstock, which is great for die cutting and card layers for smallish numbers of cards, but not great if I need a lot of large layers for a sheet load.

OK. I'm still not sure I like my original plan, but I haven't found anything that works better, so I'm forging ahead! Struggling with focal points, so I think I'm going with the larger sentiment strip joblackford has in her first set. Also stealing the embossing idea from her second set. Here goes nothing!

I'm on a bit of a kid's cards bandwagon (and a SLoC bandwagon as well) these days. For those who participated in C+C, these papers, dies will look familiar. I think they are adorable )admittedly cutesy which is not normally my thing), however I thought that the class projects were just a little "too much." Tried to make some of them appropriate for little boys because it's not just girls who like cats!

joblackford I love your Christmas cards and the embossed background is an excellent idea to break up the big white space. MichyM what a great way to use those kitty papers. And I love how you tried to mix the colors for boys. Thank you for the inspiration.

Oh I dunno how *inspiring* I am, but it feels good to use up just a little of this paper ETA: and Shakti, I think both sets of your cards are lovely! That said, I understand the feeling of just wanting to finish up the cards I'm working on and moving on to something I like better!

Thank you.
Not sure I’ll be moving on to something I like better— my plan was to move on to the third C&9 card from C&C.
But I think you’re right; I should pick something I’m excited about next.

I love both set of your cards Shakti. That star paper is very pretty. I need to start on my C&C videos and cards too, but than I need to organize my craftroom and destash some stuff. Why is it so hard to let go of things?

Thank you, azcrafty. All of the patterned papers in both sets are from a Michael's 6x6 pad called Twilight or something like that. I thought they were all a little different from what you typically find there. As for letting things go, I found some silver cord/twine in my stash, which I tried to use on these cards, but it would unravel and look like a mess as soon as it was cut. It is in the trash. I made my second shaker card (front at least) last weekend at the HA stamp along. I have come to the conclusion that I am a curmudgeon who thinks shakers are for children, so I won't be making many. I can buy that much acetate when I need it, so most of the acetate packaging I've saved at JMcG's suggestion is also in the trash. And I'm posting things in the RAK thread here.

MichyM , love those cat cards! You used them well. Are those cats the ones on the paper or did you stamp them? Shakti , those are beautiful! Where did you get the sentiments for those? I really need to get more sentiments for the inside of my cards...

Father’s Day set: Not sure I love either set; I struggled with these. You’d never know you struggled, looking at the finished product. I think they turned out really nicely, and I love the paper. I think I looked at that pad, I love moons and stars and purples. A dozen people will be delighted by them which is the most important thing! I’m trying to get a few quick cards made for the drive after procrastinating and thinking I’d missed the deadline. I like the sentiments you added inside.

Shakti , those are beautiful! Where did you get the sentiments for those? I really need to get more sentiments for the inside of my cards... The "You're a Star" is actually from a Club Scrap collection called Galaxy from sometime in 2021. The "To an Incredible Woman" is from Stampin' Up's Paper Pumpkin monthly kit for March or April (their what it's called vs when it's shipped is confusing). I really love having inside sentiments. Mama Elephant and Papertrey Ink (though I know folks have beef with PTI, no one's explained it to me, so...) both have good collections.

I'm always trying to find inside sentiment stamps - I just ordered a set from the Spellbinders warehouse sale for Christmas cards.

Finally finished mine. This is Photoplay paper and die cuts. I struggled with cutting the banner at an angle. Looking back at some of your cards, I think my angle was to sharp. Because I love how it looks on other people's cards. So I went with straight.

I usually do a shallow-angled cut on the sentiment because I stamp too close to the end and run out of space, lol.

Yes, I would probably like a shallow cut more. It doesn't show well in the photo, but what looks black is dark navy.

Cute cute cmpeter! And I like that you used a patterned paper for the first mat, it really makes a difference! Were the die cuts pre=printed, or did you stamp them?

Post by cmpeter on Apr 30, 2023 18:20:51 GMT
They were preprinted, but I had to fussy cut them out. I considered trying them in the Brother Scan n Cut, but without an outline, I was worried it wouldn't cut cleanly and I didn't want to mess with outlining them with a pencil and then erasing it.

So without black around an image, even with a good amount of color instead, the scan and cut has a tricky time of it?

I'm not sure. It's my assumption. But, I haven't tried to cut out a non-stamped image without a black outline.
