In other news... The FBI used the Proud Boys to report on BLM etc. The Washington Post and AP were the only sites that have reported it, although AP only wrote one line.. Despite the Proud Boys being all over the news for seditious conspiracy convictions, most outlets failed to mention that the FBI was actively working with numerous members of the far-right group, including its former leader, to specifically target those on the left, according to a report from Jacobin. Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio is among up to nine members who reportedly served as informants to the FBI. Those informants were partly helping law enforcement target "Black Lives Matter protesters and other left-wing activists," according to Jacobin's Branko Marcetic. "That fact doesn’t just make the FBI’s failure to detect and prevent the Capitol riot even more baffling," Marcetic wrote. "Revelations from the trial suggested that the FBI’s historical and ongoing fixation on left-wing protests potentially blinded it to the threat of the far right, and that the bureau is even happy to collaborate with far-right groups as a way of neutralizing what it sees as a greater threat from the Left." IN OTHER NEWS: Accused leaker analyzed mass shootings for 'fun': report Marcetic said only two news outlets, including the Associated Press and the Washington Post, mentioned the FBI connection at all. "The AP’s reference was perfunctory — contained in a single line about how 'revelations of government informants in the group' prolonged the trial — leaving the Post as the one and only news outlet that specified that Tarrio himself was a longtime informer for law enforcement in a wide range of groups beyond and before the Proud Boys," according to the Jacobin report. "His own lawyer called him 'prolific' informer in a 2014 court proceeding." Marcetic said mainstream outlets like CBS, ABC, NBC, and USA Today had no mention of the FBI's informant deals. "Explicitly progressive or liberal-leaning outlets were no better than the mainstream," the report says. "Tarrio and other Proud Boys’ status as FBI informers was absent from Mother Jones’s write-up on the verdict, as well as those of the Guardian, Vice, Huff Post, and Salon." www.rawstory.com/donald-trump-fbi-2659974980/

This shows how messed up the voters are. They made the same claim that trump handled the economy better than President Obama. Forgetting the unemployment rates when from over 10% to 4.7% during President Obama’s term.
Some on this board claimed trump was “pro business “ when all he did was reverse EPA guidelines so businesses could pollute the water, air and land.

Ah MTG isn’t having a good time in Congress. Note the part how people say crazy things to her. My guess they are calling her on all the nonsense she says. And she doesn’t like it. They just want to say this stuff and not be held accountable for it.

Seems the former famous TV doctor, losing Senatorial candidates is returning to be ones a TV doctor again, but... Interestingly at his Florida estate 11 minutes from Mar-A-Lago...AND... he only paid 18 million for an appraised property valued at 36 million.. interesting... Judging by his and his family’s social media presences, it seems Oz isn’t worried about maintaining the Pennsylvania brand he tried, and largely failed, to cement during the campaign," said the Beast. "For the most part, it appears he’s been morphing into a Florida man, spending time in his Palm Beach estate." The property was purchased a few months before the 2022 election, CBS News reported at the time. Of his 18 known homes, the report said none is larger or more valuable than the 10-bedroom historic beachfront mansion in Palm Beach. The estate makes up 18,559 square feet and was valued at more than $36 million, appraisal records say. Insider reported Oz spent just $18 million for the property but also said there were 11 bedrooms. The report also cited Oz telling a "Democratic operative" at an event, "Legitimately, I own two houses." But in a 2018 issue of Boca Raton Magazine Oz called it "our house" and called Palm Beach "like a playground to me in many ways." Fetterman was curious why Oz didn't run for the U.S. Senate from Florida at the time. The home is about 11 minutes north of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago country club or a short 4-mile walk down the beach. Oz might head back to New Jersey or New York or Ireland or any one of his other homes once the blistering heat and humidity moves into south Florida for the summer, but he hasn't said one way or the other publicly. www.rawstory.com/mehmet-oz-goes-to-florida/

Let's blame the victim. So said lawyer Tacopina!!!! At a court hearing on Monday, Tacopina closed by telling the jury he could not prove Trump did not rape writer E. Jean Carroll. "Ms. Carroll has abused the system," Tacopina said, according to Inner City Press correspondent Mathew Russell Lee. "She brought a case for money, and victimized real rape victims, exploiting their pain and suffering. We cannot let her profit from her abuse of this process." How do you prove a negative?" he complained. "If Donald Trump had come [to testify], what could I have asked him? About some unknown date? This is a civil case. They could have called Donald Trump. But they didn't. They just want you to hate him enough." Trump recently vowed to "confront" Carroll but later declined an opportunity to testify. www.rawstory.com/joe-tacopina-closing-statement/

Isn't this rich... OathKeepers leaders want leniency for his military service and his volunteering... He is such an honorable citizen!! Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes is facing a prison sentence of up to 25 years for his role in inciting the violent attack on the United States Capitol building, but he thinks he deserves leniency for his years of running an "all-volunteer" organization. As flagged by NBC News' Ryan Reilly, Rhodes argued in a court filing that a prison sentence of time served would be adequate for his conviction of seditious conspiracy last year. The filing starts off by noting Rhodes' past military service where he was honorably discharged from the United States Army, as well as his post-military academic achievements. It is imperative that the court give great deference to Mr. Rhodes for the 12 years of service and dedication of the Oath Keepers, as evinced through the organizations' history of community involvement and volunteerism in times of natural disasters and civil unrest," he argued. "It should be stated that the perception cultivated by some mainstream media outlets, politicians and activists portraying the Oath Keepers as a 'right-wing extremist' group is simply not borne out by the facts." www.rawstory.com/stewart-rhodes-2659979474/

Another Texas Republicans bites the dust(resigns) for inappropriate behavior with a teen(19) intern.. Republican Texas State Rep. Bryan Slaton is resigning from his seat just hours after a committee in the Texas House of Representatives voted in favor of expelling him. In a letter obtained by Texas Scorecard managing editor Brandon Waltens, Slaton said that he was resigning immediately and said that he was looking "forward to spending more time with my young family." The panel investigating Slaton heard testimony from a 19-year-old intern detailing how he invited her to his apartment, plied her with alcohol, and proceeded to have sex with her. Fellow Republican Texas State Rep. Andrew Murr, in announcing the findings of the panel's investigation, said Slaton "engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a subordinate" that was "induced by alcohol that Representative Slaton provided to that 19-year-old subordinate. Slaton was due to face a vote on his expulsion from the Texas House, but he resigned abruptly before such a vote could be held. Slaton describes himself as a "Christian Conservative" in his Twitter biography, and also has positioned himself as a warrior against the sexualization of children, despite the fact that he allegedly had sex with a teenage girl.In his last pinned Twitter post, Slaton touted his support for a bill that bans drag performances in the presence of children. www.rawstory.com/bryan-slaton-resigns/#cxrecs_s

Big news!! In a surprise move days after the Allen mall shooting and hours before a key legislative deadline, a Texas House committee advanced a bill Monday that would raise the minimum age to purchase certain semi-automatic riflesThe bill faces an uphill climb to becoming state law, but the vote marked a milestone for the proposal that relatives of Uvalde shooting victims have been pushing for months. Several relatives of children who were killed in the Robb Elementary School shooting last year sobbed when the committee voted 8-5 to send the bill to the House floor. Republican state Reps. Sam Harless and Justin Holland joined with Democrats on the House Community Safety Select Committee to advance the bill. Less than two hours earlier, some of the relatives of Uvalde victims had urged the committee chair, Rep. Ryan Guillen. R-Rio Grande, to give House Bill 2744 a vote before a key deadline Monday. “One year ago today, my daughter had her communion. About a month later, she was buried in that same dress,” Javier Cazares, whose 9-year-old daughter Jacklyn was killed in the Uvalde shooting, said during an emotional press conference. “Mr. Guillen, and anybody else who is stopping this bill from passing, sad to say but more blood will be on your hands.” Monday marks the last day House bills can be voted out of committee in the lower chamber. House bills that don’t meet that deadline face increasingly difficult odds of becoming law, though there are some avenues through which measures left in committees could be revived. www.rawstory.com/in-surprise-move-after-mall-shooting-texas-house-panel-oks-bill-raising-age-to-buy-semi-automatic-rifles/

This is why just vote harder alone will not work to solve problems. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/may-8-2023-mondayThese ideas are embraced only by a minority in the United States, but that minority is working hard to cement its power by gaming the system. Election lawyer Marc Elias recently warned that “we cannot out-organize voter suppression” and that the myth that we can “minimizes the real world effects of repeated, targeted suppression laws. It shifts the burden from the suppressors to the voters. It suggests that victims of voter suppression simply need to be better ‘organized.’”
He notes that Ohio, Arkansas, South Dakota, Idaho, and Florida have all passed voter suppression laws this year and that the new laws put in place after 2020 have worked. Minority and youth voting have dropped significantly. Since 2008, Black voting in states dominated by Democrats has increased by 1.8 points; in Republican-dominated states it has dropped by four points. In Georgia, Black participation rates dropped from 47.8% to 43.2% between 2018 and 2022. Hispanic participation dropped from 27.6% to 25.1%, and the youth vote dropped from 33% to 26%.
Voter suppression is not “campaign tactics,” Elias warns. It is “the illegal and immoral deprivation of constitutional rights.”

What Marc Elias and his law firm is doing only represents part of the story when it comes to voting in this country. No question it’s important but it’s still only part of the story. The rest of the story centers around the choices people make when they vote. And that includes if they decide to vote. California one of the easiest states to vote. 2020 was the first year that CA automatically sent ballots to all registered votes. It was the election to get rid of trump. But yet only 70.8% of eligible voters voted. How come the other 29% couldn’t be bothered to vote? It could be argued 2020 was one of the most important elections this country had in a long time. But yet 29% in a state with no voter suppression laws and in a state where they sent you the ballot didn’t vote. After the 2016 election when number were examined it was determined that 4.4 million voters who voted for President Obama in 2012 didn’t vote for Hillary. A reminder trump won the electoral college by 77,000 votes spread between 3 swing states. Do you think he would have still won if that 4.4M had voted for Hillary like they did for President Obama? I don’t think so but we will never know for sure. Voter suppression is real but what has never been determined is exactly how many voters are affected by it vs those who have nothing stopping them from voting except themselves. The voters set the course this country follows by the choices they make when they vote. 154.6 million people voted in 2020 and they set the course for the country away from 4 years of chaos caused by trump. In 2022 only 107.7 million voted which altered the course again by bringing back that chaos. I love these polls when the voters claim they don’t like the direction of the country and blame the politicians when in fact the voters are steering the course by the choices they make when they actually show up and vote. Which brings me to the last mystery and that is why do those who have traditionally voted Republican continue to do it when you see what Republican politicians are doing on all levels of government? I mean seriously Neo-Nazi and white nationalists are part of today’s Republican Party. Do these voters believe in all this stuff or are they just deliberately ignoring it and continuing to vote Republican because they always have? It’s a mystery. And one that is killing this country. LA Times on CA voters
Washington Post and the missing 4.4 M voters

Poor little baby. Here is trump complaining “they” woukdn’t let him defend himself.
That kind of threw me for a minute because no one stopped him from testifying and defending himself.
Then it hit me he didn’t want to testify in court because a) he had to do it under oath and b) because the other side would get to cross examine him.
He wanted to go to one of his rallies and go on and on about how he is the victim and nobody would challenge him to his face. Such a coward.
I also like the bit about how he is a candidate and leading “all others in both parties” therefore none of this should be happening to him.
He really thinks he is above the law.
