I had no gum or sucking on mints in my most recent colonoscop instructions.. So sorry your DD broke her hand and had to have a delay in her surgery.

But from what I can figure, I would be paying more in additional taxes and I am guessing a medicare type surcharge over and above the higher tax rate that countries with socialized medicine have, than what my current health insurance premium plus deductible would be. Not necessarily. When you look at the tax rates for many European countries, they include the additional taxes we pay for health care, unemployment, disability care and retirement. And that doesn't include all the other things that the taxes pay for, like free education, including college/other post high school studies.

How is your daughter doing today? Did her surgery go well? Much pain? I can't remember if she still lives with you? or is she staying with you for a while? The only reply I got today, to my "How are you feeling?" question, was "Sore!" She'll be here soon for dinner, so I can get a better answer then. Apparently the head of the dept did the surgery, instead of the original surgeon. I guess that's because they had to try and slot her in somewhere, and the other surgeon probably didn't have room. She doesn't live here anymore. She and her boyfriend bought a house in Kilsyth and moved in just before Christmas. One down, and one to go!

I would not have know this either. No gum or mints before bloodwork, yeah, but before surgery? I wouldn’t have known. Since it obviously makes such a huge difference, they should start listing that when giving the patient presurgery instructions. No food, drink, or gum chewing! And I assume no breath mints since it is still a very minor form of eating something. I know not to chew gum or have a mint before blood work is done because the sugar would mess with your results.
I hope the procedure goes well for her!
