Confession Time! Based on some of the new and past releases of multiple product lines. Who here takes their solo, couple, with friends or Family vacation, travels, road trips.......in a wood panel station wagon or a VW Bus? Every travel line, seems to have one or the other or both. Clearly the products designers must think this is a scrapbookers......mode of transportation for all their travels.

I mean when I was 10-18, my parents had three Ford Country Squire station wagons (one after another not at the same time) but we only ever did day trips...
These days we had a Ford Flex...no fake wood sides, lol

We had a station wagon when I was very young, but I doubt that it had wood panels, and I have zero interest in either station wagon or VW Bus embellishments.
Since when did reality ever have to do with what goes into a collection? For example, how many of us have ever had llamas? That was a trend, too.
I might use these interesting but useless elements on a card, but not on a layout.

No to the wood panels, we did have a VW bus from when I was age 6-10 and I have one photo of it (me sitting on the roof, when we're camping.)
Of course, most of the vans in scrapbook lines have orange vans and ours was red...
Yes, I think designers are a little out touch... who straps their suitcases to their car roof when they travel?

I don't go on vacation with one but my DH just bought a one-owner, garage stored 1940 Woody. It has all the original wood and everything. He is going to restore it.

I have never traveled in either one, although it might be fun to get one of those VW buses, throw in some scrappy supplies and head out on a road trip to visit other scrappers. Sort of like a scrapbook cruise, only cruising the roads instead...

Me! Well it belonged to my mom and step dad we took a couple shorter road trips and one camping weekend with it. Complete and utter piece of shit. But man I loved that thing! No AC, almost no shocks in the back, loud as hell. My regret, I donāt have one single photo with the Vanagon. š

When will scrapbooking companies come out with a Prius icon in their road trip collections?! š
Iām also sick of campers in outdoor collections. We like camping, but in a tent. Or just hiking. Why so many campers??

When I was a child we traveled across the country in a converted utility van with built in seats with upholstered vinyl on top. No air conditioning, no seat belts. When we got in trouble we had to sit on the blue cooler in between the driver and the passenger up front. Where's my stickers?!!
No seriously, if anyone comes across a vintage looking blue Coleman cooler in sticker, paper, or digital form please let me know.
ETA:ENOUGH with the bicycles in Spring and summer lines. Who the hell takes pleasure rides with a basket of flowers?

Right up there with the old square suitcases and steamer trunks with decals of famous cities. My mom had one of those suitcases and the thing weighed a ton.

I'm excited to FINALLY use a taxi icon. I know I have them in my travel collection. I used a taxi in NYC. The taxis in Washington, DC were red!

Linda We had a series of Country Squire station wagons, too! One was dark green, one was maroon, and another was silver. They were all passed down to my mom from my grandpa who loved having a new car every couple of years. Loved riding in the "way back" facing backwards.

We had a wood paneled station wagon that we drove on road trips (I refuse to call them vacations) for years.
I remember we couldn't go over 55 mph. Now that seems so slow.

I drive my VW bus to the Eiffel Tower on all of my vacations! š ha! My confession is I kinda like the VW bus/wagon icon in travel lines. As well as all the other ones (square suitcase, geotag) that are repetitive, but I duno, they work for me.

Wood panel station wagons were never a thing in Australia, so not me! But if I could afford a VW bus Iād be taking it on road trips, for sure.
I bought a $100 raffle ticket recently to win a 1967 white and turquoise VW Splitty. I was so sure I was going to win (hahaha) but sadly I did not.

We had a green (inside and out) station wagon in the 70s and into the early 80s. On long trips I got to sick in the back with no seat belt and play or sleep.

I not only vacation in a VW bus, I also tow a Camper Van and my vintage bicycle with the flower basket along. I mostly vacation at llama farms. These vacations usually result in The Best Day Ever!

So true! Judging by every parking lot I park in manufacturers should be adding white SUVs to every travel collection.

We had a wood-paneled station wagon when I was a kid: I believe it was a Ford "Country Squire," and we used to sit in the back, with no seatbelts on and with not a care in the world So I guess the power of nostalgia is strong with me, because I absolutely love retro camper, van, and station wagon elements! I don't interpret them literally, I just think they evoke the mood of a certain time and place in a cute and clever way. Though maybe not well-suited to contemporary layouts, admittedly, and maybe some designer should come out with a cute Prius hybrid motif?

I don't interpret them literally, I just think they evoke the mood of a certain time and place in a cute and clever way. To me these elements just symbolize road trips, freedom, not a care in the world - so I like them. They make me feel all sentimental and warm and fuzzy. I don't camp, though, so I wouldn't use those elements anyway. The suitcases and woody station wagon, I'd use. I love a good road trip. I don't think a sticker of my Honda Accord or my husband's Audi Q7 would look as whimsical lol, but if I came across stickers of them I'd incorporate them, too, I'm sure.
