I'm curious, how many dish drying towels do you have? And how long do you use them once they are wet? I'll start. I am a nut about my drying towels. Only like the thin flour sack towels. Once they are wet I throw them down the stairs to the washer. And I must have about 50 of them. I use them until they are filled with holes. I think I'm obsessed

I have 4 or 5. I put them in the laundry about every other day and wash them all once a week. They are not dirty, just a little damp from drying my hands on them. I don't use them to dry my dishes, I just put dishes in the dish drainer to dry.

A whole drawer full, at least 40.
I switch them frequently. Every time dishes are dried, I get out a new towel. It doesn’t make sense to me to use a towel that has been used to dry hands or wipe up counters to dry clean dishes. If the dishes are clean, you need to dry them with a clean towel, otherwise you’re just making them dirty again.

A ridiculous amount. The kitchen hand towels and dish towels come from the same pile. They are changed out daily.
There are so many that my container concept doesn’t work. There is usually a laundry basket, half full, in the storage room because where they are kept in the kitchen is full.

I have two in the daily rotation. About a dozen is reserves. They are used to dry dishes and hands only. Every few days they get tossed in the laundry and fresh towels replace them.
When one is wet, it hangs over the end of raised microwave stand, that has small appliances (GF Grill, toaster, chopper, etc...) on and under it.
I use disposable paper towels to clean the counter, especially when wiping up any food or cleansers. Never cloth towels or wipes.

I currently have quite a few because I bought some to use when I got into the new house. Then when I was at Costco, I couldn’t remember whether or not I had some so I bought another batch, along with a batch of their generic hotel-type white bath towels, hand towels, and face towels. When I came home and washed them up and put them away.
Then when I went to get a fresh one, I was more than a little irritated with myself to see that I had already bought these and had put them into the cupboard right next to where I put the latest batch. The laundry room in this house has a ton of cupboards that go right to the ceiling. I need a stepladder to access things. And while all the storage is going to be wonderful, I currently don’t always remember where I put something. And now that I am having my pods delivered, I’m going to end up with even more. I guess I will transfer a batch to the pet cupboard. And I can always donate the excess to a local animal shelter.

We currently have about 15 dish towels that we use. We use one a day. When the last one is used, the basket goes into the wash. They're all white so I bleach them. I don't like washing them every other week so I'm adding more to a point where we have a new spot for them that will hold at least 10 more than what we have now. When they get a hole or too thin or stains that just won't come out, they go into the basement for cleaning or the garage.
Once we use one a day, I think three weeks worth is enough but wouldn't mind more. No more than 30 though.

Anything that I hand wash goes onto a drying mat and stays until it's dry. I have kitchen hand towels that get changed daily. I have about 12 or so. Plus bunches for Christmas and Thanksgiving/fall.

I finally got rid of all my crappy small dish towels and bought some really nice KitchenAid towels when they were on clearance at Costco a couple years back. Like an idiot, I only bought one pack (about 6-8 towels) and now I wish I would have bought more because they’re my favorites. They’re a good size for drying my silpats (roll up the mats in the towel one by one and they’re instantly dry and they can be put away right away). Having said that, I have to add that I also have a few thinner, larger towels that I use when I bake bread to cover my dough while it rises, but that’s all I use those towels for. I also have about 6-8 Norwex microfiber towels that we use for kitchen hand towels, those are antimicrobial and only used for drying hands.
I don’t typically use a towel to dry dishes unless I need the thing again immediately. For the most part I let any hand washed dishes air dry because I’m lazy like that. Even with the dishwasher washed items that don’t get totally dry, we prop the door open and leave it that way until the dishes have air dried and then they can just be put away, so I don’t hand dry dishes much at all. Most of the time if I use a dish towel to dry dishes and it gets wet, I just hang it up on the oven door to dry out and reuse later. I mean, all it was used for was to dry clean water off of clean dishes, so to me that towel isn’t “dirty” and can be used again.

I have about 12 or 15. We use paper towels for our hands but I need to change that. Between that and cleaning up the occasional doggie accidents, our paper towel usage is out of hand.
I love Williams and Sonoma dishtowels, and the flour sack ones the best. I need to buy some flour sack towels. Where does everyone like to but those from? Im thinking Costco but open to suggestions. Thanks!!

Sorry, I don't mean to be quoting you everywhere, but you said exactly what we do. Hand-drying dishes is foreign to me. Even when we handwash a few dishes we use the dishwasher as a drainer, so no need for tons of dish towels.

I let most of my dishes dry but I still have a crazy number of towels. I started buying them when I travel, then everyone thought I must really love them so they get me towels when they travel. It's out of control. I have micro-fiber car-detailing towels from Costco for shining counters. Yellow micro-fiber ones are only for floors/bathrooms. I change them after a day or two.

I got rid of sooooo many towels when I downsized in November ... now I have about 10 dish towels that I really like and that coordinate with my kitchen decor ... no more mismatched and stained ones!
I hardly hand wash anything so my dish towels are mostly used for hands ...

A long time ago, probably at least 25 yrs, Walmart had these really nice cotton dish towels that were on clearance. They were on the end of the aisle and marked at 50 cents for a pack of 6. I bought all they had which was about 15 packs. I’m still using the bulk of those towels today. Best towels I’ve ever owned. At the end of the day any towels that are used get tossed in the laundry room.

A lot. lol. Every once in awhile I buy a pack at Costco... That's usually 8 or 10 of them. I buy them because I like the color and/or pattern. I toss them in the laundry after a couple of days. I probably wash a load of dish towels, regular towels, sheets, etc. every week.
eta: these are not for drying dishes, only hands, or maybe drying the odd pot or lid. We don't have a dishwasher so I let the dishes air dry.

I have about 20-25 in a kitchen drawer. I love pretty dish towels, so I buy new ones frequently and move the worn ones to the rag basket.

A lot. I bought a crap load from IKEA when we remodeled our kitchen. I change them frequently because a few people wipe their mouth or dirty fingers on them.

I have about 30, use about one per day. I mostly use them to dry large pots and pans so they don’t stick out above the rest of my dishes. I don’t have a dishwasher. I do laundry weekly and find that I’m using the same 7 dish towels continuously and never use the rest.

I call them tea towels (woven cotton, not terry towel) and I have about 20 or so.

I could see drying poorly washed hands, but who uses a dish towel on their face? Sorry distracted by this thought. We have a couple dozen? One is pulled out in the morning for hands. And then when pans are being drying one after dinner, an additional one or two is used for that depending on how many pans and how many are helping. Afterwards they're all thrown in the laundry room at the end of the night. I use a clorox wipes on our countertops not dishtowels - and yes, yes I know all the granite manufacturers say you can't - I've done it for 20 years and it works for me.

Since we rarely hand wash dishes, we use once and then toss in the wash. We have quite a few- including about 1-2 dozen of the Ikea $.75 towels.

I don’t dry dishes—I let the dishwasher do that. But I have a zillion of IKEA’s cotton dish towel packs that I use when I’m cooking and I also use them as bibs so I don’t stain my shirts. Yeah, it looks snazzy. I have some fancy tea towels that I’ve gotten as presents over the years that I take out for parties, including one I bought for my son to give me from our local British imports store that says something like “You are the best Mum”. Once in my life I wanted to be called “Mum”.

Darcy Collins What can I say, no good deed goes unpunished. I’m feeling the pain of taking in an elderly uncle that I don’t have a relationship with and it’s like having another child. I couldn’t, in good conscience, refuse my mother’s request and when she died, well, here I am. My husband is a saint for going along, that’s all I can say.

I'm pretty sure I'd just throw away all my tea towels and use paper towels in the interim for fear of contamination as I'm kind of skivvy that way.

Trust me, we buy paper towels at Costco. He takes about 10 with every meal. We have to label food so he doesn’t eat everything that goes in the fridge, like other people’s half eaten leftovers that they are saving for lunch. Live and learn.

Oodles. I don't tolerate a wet kitchen towel for long at all. My laundry room is just steps from my kitchen, and I keep a hamper in there just for kitchen linens. So whenever the towel feels damp, I go drape it over the edge of the hamper to air dry before I move it into the actual hamper.
We have a repurposed dresser in our kitchen because our kitchen is old with very few built-in cabinets & only 1 built-in drawer. So I use one drawer of the dresser for kitchen towels, dish cloths, & cloth napkins. I found someone on Etsy who makes these little flannel square napkins that we use for everyday use, and I love them because they are so thin that I can stack like 20 into one tiny corner of that drawer, and leave the vast majority of the drawer open for towels.

I suppose I have about 10. I don't have a dishwater - small kitchen and there's only me. I only dry off the dishes with the tea towel though (mostly air dry for an hour or so, then a final wipe with the tea towel before I put things away) So they don't ever get wet...I change once a week, or if I have had to dry something and it got quite wet, then sooner.
I also have a hand towel in the kitchen that I wipe my wet hands on. I never wipe my hands on the tea towel - that's strictly for clean dishes. Hand towel in the kitchen is for wet hands...after I've done the dishes or rinsed some food. I only use the hand towel in the kitchen when I'm doing kitchen stuff. Kitchen hand towel gets changed every few days depending on how much I've used it.
If I came in from outside or I'm doing other things inside, then I wash my hands in the bathroom.
