Many don’t want President Biden to run for re-election. So who do you think should be the 2024 Democratic candidate for president.
Because age seems to be a problem no one who will be 70 next year or older should be considered.
I have three choices.
1. Kamala Harris
2. Gavin Newsom
3. Secretary Pete.
IMO a lot of the criticism against Kamala Harris is petty and is the old double standard that if it was a guy nothing would be said. She is getting on the job training to be president which is a big plus.
When Gavin Newsom was mayor of SF all I remembered about him was he had this plan to end homelessness in SF. Well it didn’t work. But that was then and this now. I like the programs he is pushing in CA and that he is in the face of red state governors pointing out the differences between their state and CA. I mean let’s face CA has been the favorite target for the right for years. The other plus for Newsom is he is the governor of a state that has the 5th largest economy in the world. It is a state that is reflective of the entire United States because of its diversity in its population and industries.
Secretary Pete is still my favorite. So while Gavin Newsom is “in your face” when pointing out the differences between the left and right. Pete is more low keyed but just as effective.
I could support any of these three with no problem if they became the Democratic nominee for president in 2024.
Who’s your choice or choices?
Edited to add. I think the Democrats have good choices who are not afraid to voice their vision of where they want to go to make this a better country. One might not agree with all a candidate is offering but at least they giving us a plan.

Pete for sure. But I'll vote for anyone on the D side of the ticket.

what's most important is who can beat DeSantis. I will also vote for anyone with a D after their name - particularly against someone like DeSantis.

I'm voting Democrat no matter what. But Democrats need a strong ticket. I love Pete. Kamala and Gavin would do a good job, but I can't see a Republican fed up with the direction of their party voting for Kamala or Gavin.

I like newsom and pete.. I don't think kamala could win.. too much baggage. but I think we need to get behind biden as he still has a good story to tell and has accomplished a lot.

I like Pete Buttigieg the best, but will vote for whomever the Democratic candidate is- the stakes are too high at this time to do anything else.

I lost a little respect for Kamala recently, just a personal opinion, not something that might keep me from voting for her if she is the one. I would LOVE to see Pete give it another go. I don't know if the country is ready for an openly gay President though, unfortunately. Just judging, by the way, people are toward the LBGTQ+ community at the moment. I don't know enough about Newsom to have an opinion on him.
I too will vote for whoever is on the ticket with a D after their name.

I'll vote for whoever captures the D ticket. If it is Biden, I'll support him. Mayor/Secretary Pete would be my first choice. He's a quick thinker and cool under pressure.

As of right now, today, I believe Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee. (Unless he goes to prison and let’s be honest, that’s not very likely.) I also believe, as of right now, the only person that can beat Trump is Biden.
In the future, I’d love to see Pete run.

As a Ca resident, I do not want Newsom to run. He has done some great things but has also let a lot of other things slide and I do fear for the safety if the nation and our budget if he were to be president.
I would love for Pete to run but not yet. I don't want him up against Biden.

I also believe, as of right now, the only person that can beat Trump is Biden. Why do you say that? I think a LOT of us voted for Biden because he was the democratic choice. NOT because he was OUR choice. So honestly, if ANY democrat was up for it, I would vote for him, and I think a lot of people feel that. it doesn't have to be the old old white guy. Esp with the newer generation and the fail of the college loan repayments. Biden lost a lot of supporters with that.

If Biden decides to run again, I will support him whole heartedly. I love that I don't have to worry every single day what shit our president is spewing, and I like how he is just quietly doing his job and not getting into the fray of crap that is flung around about him and his family. But, that all said, my favorite candidate is the same as it was in 2020--Pete. I love him, and I think he would make a fantastic president. But I am just not sure the US is ready to elect a gay man as president, which I also think is so damn dumb. And I'm not sure that he will appeal to Republicans who want to get off the Trump train.

I'm in the camp that I will vote D, but I do so wish we had a strong powerful candidate.
I like Newsome, but I think there is too much that happened in CA for him to be a successful candidate. I love Pete, but unfortunately all the spewing hate against the LGBTQ community will not bode well. I'd hate to rile up any of the bigot Rs to vote just to vote against him. Kamala is meh. I like her and all but not knocking my socks off. I really miss my girl Elizabeth Warren. I also really like Katie Porter but I don't think she would run.

i like Pete but i don't think it's his time yet. i wouldn't mind seeing him as the VP running mate though. kamala can move over and be the next nominee for the supreme court. she is best suited for that.

This.^^^ If pressed, I like Pete, and Senator Klobuchar. I won’t vote for any Republicans-although I have several times in the past- until they recover their sanity and stop being the authoritarian party.

I don’t think Harris or Newsome would win against TFG either. I am really afraid of what 2024 will bring. I would like to see someone younger run but not sure who. I will vote for whoever is nominated though. I hate to say we need someone moderate to catch those that don’t want Trump and may switch parties for the short term but not sure who and I realize Biden is moderate but I don’t think the other options are.

Harris and Pete can not win. I think if Biden runs again and that seems certain, he should pick a different VP candidate to shore up his support and perhaps bring over some who are concerned about his age. I've been disappointed in Harris and it has nothing to do with her gender. Amy Klobuchar or Gretchen Whitmer are far better candidates. Either would be my pick right now to lead the ticket if Biden does not run for some reason.

Barring any sort of health crisis, I think Biden will be the nominee. Besides the whackadoo haters, whose hatred is delusional, his primary weakness seems to be the economy, which is obviously not his fault. And good news on prices—they’ve come down for the first time since 2020.
Kamala has been quieter than I expected this term—I feel like I don’t really have a sense of who she is as a national leader. Newsom is the poster boy for everything even the few remaining rational Republicans hate about Democratic policies. Pete’s great—I could definitely vote for him, but there was a lot of grumbling about his seemingly slow response to the Ohio train derailment.
I would personally love to see either of two Connecticut lawmakers step up—Senator Chris Murphy who has been a force in working for gun safety legislation or Representative Jim Himes—who packs a lot of experience in foreign affairs with his work on the Intelligence Committee. I think this is going to become a key area in the trend toward autocracy in this country and others around the world.

I'm actually not sure I agree with that - it seems that when D candidates are picked early there's more time for the mud to stick. I kind of hope Biden keeps being the presumptive nominee and then they slide someone else with strong name recognition and likeability without a ton of time for them to be ripped apart. I like Biden, I think his biggest negative is age.

Biden has been hinting that he will run again in 2024. Honestly, he may be the only one at the moment to beat Trump. I think Biden is too old and we need younger candidates, but … shrug. I will vote for whom ever the Democrats put on the ticket.
I would love to see Newsom and DeSantis go head to head. That would be fun to watch.
