😡😡😡 that is disgusting! My daughter is pregnant with my first grandchild and he will be mixed race. I am absolutely terrified for him and he hasn’t even been born yet. I just hope people keep recording and these people face consequences.

I know there are people like this, but every time I hear it spoken so baldly, I am shocked. (And disgusted, etc.)
What absolute pieces of trash.

More .. Sheriff is now investigating local media .. Oklahoma Sheriff who threatened local media with violence is now investigating local mediaSarah K. Burris April 17, 2023, 11:01 PM ET Oklahoma Sheriff who threatened local media with violence is now investigating local media Photo: Oklahoma Sheriff's Association profile page A county in southeast Oklahoma was exposed over the weekend for breaking the state's open meetings laws after a leaked recording revealed a local sheriff and several McCurtain County commissioners discussing hiring hitmen to murder local newspaper reporters. County officials also discussed lynching people and beating them up. As local KJRH reported Monday evening, the McCurtain Gazette's publisher Bruce Willingham was told that he and his family should flee town for their own safety. The publisher's son, Chris Willingman "has written at least 30 articles alleging corruption involving the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office over the last few years," KJRH reported. In a statement posted to the McCurtain County County Sheriff's Office's Facebook, the department painted themselves as the victims and said that they were now investigating the reporters for recording the conversation in violation of communications crimes. *** In addition to being illegally obtained, the audio does not match the 'transcription' of that audio, and is not precisely consistent with what has been put into print. Multiple agencies are assisting in this ongoing investigation. As a result of the press release that went out on Friday, a large number of threats of violence including death threats have been made against county employees and officials, their families and friends." The last 72 hours have been amongst the most difficult and disruptive in recent memory. This is a very complex situation and one we regret having to address," the Sheriff's Office began. The paper is set to release more recordings and articles on Thursday. The far-right Republican governor has already asked everyone involved to resign. Hundreds of community members protested outside of Sheriff's office on Monday. www.rawstory.com/mccurtain-county-sheriff-investigates-media/

I am shocked-shocked to learn that a group of conservatives miss the good old days when you could just murder anyone who got in their way. 😡

The tapes don’t match the “transcript”
Which transcript the reporters transcript or the ‘official’ transcript if the closed meeting.
Those are 2 very different things. If there were any ‘official’ records if the meeting of course they wouldn’t write down they want to hire hitmen to kill people. It’s rare you be one a sheriff if you’re *that* dumb.
No, I am not surprised.

I'm not surprised. I'm almost too tired to be disappointed. Terrible news coming out of OK inevitably gets the links sent to me by friends who always preface it "Since you were born in OK..."
I have relatives who would call it "Locker room talk" and say they didn't really mean anything by it. Dangerous attitude because we've read too many stories of people following through on their locker room impulses.

After the governor has asked them all to resign. After the sheriff has refused to investigate them, although he was one of them.. One down and hopefully more to go.... As of Wednesday morning, local KTEN news reports that one of the McCurtain County Commissioners has resigned. Mark Jennings, who represented District 2, announced his resignation but didn't say much more than that publicly or on his social media pages. The Idabel resident was recorded specifically saying that he missed the days when a county sheriff could beat up a Black man and throw him in jail. www.rawstory.com/oklahoma-commissioner-resigns/#cxrecs_s

More in the tapes... New secret recording reveals Oklahoma county leaders discussing sexual favors for pay raisesSarah K. Burris April 20, 2023, 11:47 AM ET Last week the McCurtain Gazette News, suspecting that county meetings continued after the public left in a violation of Oklahoma's open-meetings laws, secretly placed a voice-activated recorder in the room. *** The commissioners have already resigned, but the county sheriff's office announced they would be investigating the paper for making the recording. In the statement, the sheriff's office claimed that the recordings were doctored and fake. *** "We are also releasing the full, unedited audio and transcript of the March 6, 2023, open meeting of the McCurtain County Commissioners. The transcript has been transcribed to the best of our ability, as dialect makes the dialogue difficult to distinguish in places. With this transcription, the Gazette in no way certifies its complete accuracy and encourages all readers qto listen to the audio recording provided for themselves," the paper said. Among the details outlined in the paper was a reference to a "physical affair" between Captain of All Officers Alicia Manning and the former County Chair Jimmy Westbrook. Manning appears to imply she exchanged sexual favors to get pay raises for the county sheriff's office."With all that s--- going on with the paper? I said y'all better watch it, 'cause I'm fixing to tell Willingham that I've been under the damn table with Westbrook, that's how we got them pay raises and stuff. You wanna talk s--- about me and [Sheriff Kevin] Clardy? We're fixing to start some s--- about me and Westbrook" Manning says on the recording.www.rawstory.com/oklahoma-recordings-released-entirety/
