Side comment: If you use cup cakes, please don't have HUGE THICK frosting on the cc. I have had to scrape it off before biting because the frosting is up on/in my nose.

That makes a big difference. You can still use draped fabric to make everything into one centerpiece rather than little bits of stuff.

Cupcakes? For a wedding? I guess you could freeze a couple for your 1st anniversary celebration. Don, I've been to weddings with assorted pies and ice cream in place of cake. Weddings with assorted cookies/ dessert bars. And cupcakes, def. cupcakes. Our DD and SIL had a cheese cake - as in rounds of cheese stacked with fruit which was used after dessert. They also had a Krispy Kreme donut wall of various flavours which was quite a hit.

Haven’t you learned the trick yet? You take the cupcake out of the paper wrapper, pull half of the cake off and stick it on the top of the frosting to make a sandwich. Presto, no frosting up the nose with this hack! That’s the only way I’ll eat a standard size cupcake anymore.
