Can he do it? Will he do it? Not worth it to me ignore it!! 'What heβs proposing is literally unlawful': Legal expert raises alarm over Trump's 2024 promisesTom Boggioni April 21, 2023, 12:30 PM ET With a solid lead in the polls, and hoping to add to his numbers, Donald Trump has been making promises and rolling out proposals for the second term that was denied him in 2020 when he lost to now-President Joe Biden. In his Truth Social posts and interviews with conservative news outlets, the former president has been floating the idea of using the military to control crime, purging government workers, and siccing the DOJ on whistleblowers.According to an analysis by the Washington Post, the former president's vision for expanding federal power has all the hallmarks of authoritarianism that has constitutional scholars raising alarms that he will be going way past the extremes he reached during his four years in the Oval Office."Where he earlier changed border policies to reduce refugees and people seeking asylum, heβs now promising to conduct an unprecedented deportation operation," the Post's Isaac Arnsdorf and Jeff Stein wrote. "Where he previously moved to make it easier to fire federal workers, heβs now proposing a new civil service exam. After urging state and local officials to take harsher measures on crime and homelessness, Trump says he is now determined to take more direct federal action."Noting that Trump's boasts have been singled out as "impractical, reckless, self-defeating, potentially illegal and even dangerous," the Post report adds that the former president, "... has a track record of floating ideas that stoke widespread outrage or confusion, then roiling government and legal institutions to realize them." According to constitutional law expert Steve Vladeck of the University of Texas, the former president would be going far beyond what is legally permissible. βAs with so many things Trump, itβll be sticky to sort out where what heβs proposing is literally unlawful, which some things would be, and where what heβs proposing would fly in the face of well-established and deeply principled norms," Vladeck explained. Larry Diamond of the conservative Stanford University Hoover Institute agreed. βThe Reagan limited-government conservatism and emphasis on federalism is being displaced by a new muscular, nationalizing cultural conservatism, with a lot of anger," warned Diamond. "One thing weβve learned about Trump and authoritarian populists like him is not to dismiss what theyβre saying as just idle language and toothless roar. We need to take it very seriously.βDescribing the former president's hopes to deploy the military domestically, Vladeck added, "Republicans have tried to corner the market on claiming the federal government has been weaponized, but thatβs what this is. And the only way you can do that is by interjecting federal authority into matters that constitutionally or at least traditionally have been reserved to the states.β www.rawstory.com/donald-trump-2024-2659892938/

Yes, he is dangerous and demented, we need to be aware of what he is proposing. But my fear is that he is again using his base as a tool to do his dirty work for him, i.e. the 1/6 insurrection. The extreme MAGAts are just waiting for the next Civil Warβ¦.

He lost pretty soundly last go around. Does he really think people now want him back? Is he just giving his Maggots more extreme versions of what they want, hoping that will matter? Is he running for any other reason than to keep the funds coming in, or because he thinks he can then claim (all FOUR SIX of them) the actions against him are politically motivated?
Regardless, it's obvious to any thinking person that he will turn this country into his own little kingdom if he gets a chance. We have to make sure that doesn't happen.
Lawdy, I wish he would just shut his ugly mouth and go away.

Lawdy, I wish he would just shut his ugly mouth and go away. But he didn't lose pretty soundly last time around...unfortunately, the popular vote doesn't really matter. He came way too damn close in the Electoral College count. And that is still terrifying to me. And to ascribe the qualities of a "thinking person" to anyone in his base is a dangerous assumption. They are not thinking rationally. They are engulfed in fear, anger, and hatred of the "other." That's it. There's no thinking involved, only feeling. Equally terrifying.

Thatβs what I was thinking snd several of those battleground states have made it more difficult to vote especially for younger people or in areas less likely to vote red trying to make elections go their way. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he will win next time. Arenβt some states making it legal for the legislature to change the vote if they feel it wasnβt really what the people wanted? I think there was at least one state that did this maybe it was AZ. ETA. I think it would be foolish to let down your guard and think he couldnβt win. Especially with the addition of the third party meant to draw votes from the democratic nominee - canβt remember the name at the moment.

I think he was promising some of this last time. Itβs pretty scary. Another reason not to vote for him. Where's that wall he promised the first time around, among other things? Not advocating for the wall, just pointing out that he'll just say anything to get what he wants. If they're stupid enough to continue to believe the same lies, that's pretty pathetic.

You've got that right. I suspect that exam would be revised to be like the new AR employment exam under "Sarah Huckasand." Questions like, "What is your favorite of TFG's accomplishments?" because these jerks always need to be kissed up to. And I think there should be new criteria for Presidential eligibility. The days of our founding when it was assumed that nobody would run for office & then screw the country for his own benefit have been over since at least 2016. Additionally, candidates should have to be able to qualify for a top-secret clearance, which he'd not have been able to do.

If he wins, it will be because Dems failed to pass voting rights legislation in the previous congress. Get out the vote drives are going to be the most important thing we can do in any swing state to prevent him from taking office again.

Not buying it was a mistake like her office tried to say. I can not stand her or her Dad. I wish Mike Beebe would run for a house or Senate seat. Or Chris Jones. Jones has a bright future in politics if he doesn't get burned out or tired of the chokehold conservatives have on AR.

If I'd been an applicant, that would have had me walking out the door before picking up a pen, but I've never been a kiss-up. Never worked for anybody who looked for kiss-ups, either, if I knew that was the case going in. The other thing they look for is scapegoats. No, thanks. I've never been a fan of her. She's snide, rude, and entitled. IMO, the higher you rise, the more important it is to be gracious and not to flaunt power. I don't know much about the other folks you've mentioned, but if SHS is like them, I don't blame you.

Jones has grad degrees from MIT and the like. I believe his wife does too. They recently went to the opening of the new Fine Arts Museum in Little Rock. I believe he helped out with tornado clean up. I have no idea what Beebe is up to other than I think he was at a Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival recently as a guest and was interviewed after a film.
